 Finding Ancestors

Wherever their Trails Led!

Our goal is to help you track your ancestors through time by transcribing genealogical and historical data for the free use of all researchers.

We started out way back in March 2000 by providing data for the state of Illinois and expanded to cover the other states in March of 2006. Since then, we've been very pleased to welcome the many new hosts who have joined our original Illinois volunteers, and to continue to bring free transcribed data to our websites.

With all the changes going on in the genealogical world, we feel it's important to state that Genealogy Trails is an independent group of volunteers. We are not affiliated with any for-profit company, nor do we have any intention of ever affiliating with one (yes, we've been asked). Our volunteers made the decision at our group's beginnings to fund and support our group's needs themselves and that's what we have every intention of continuing to do.

Be assured that the data you contribute to our websites will remain free on our sites for all researchers' use, now and in the future.

We welcome your feedback and
comments, and especially your data contributions.

How are we different from other online projects? Our hosts are required to add data to their sites, so you won't see hosted sites that sit for years and years with no changes. As for our unhosted sites, our group works as a team to add data to them on a rotating schedule. So even though a site doesn't have its own host, it will still get data added to it... just not on as regular a schedule as our hosted sites.

We're looking for folks who share our dedication to putting data online and are interested in helping to keep Genealogy Free.
If you are interested in joining our group, view our
Volunteer Page for further information.

If you do not feel you have the webpage skills to adopt a county as its host, consider joining our Transcription Team.
No commitments, no special skills needed other than accurate typing :-)

We regret that we have no time to
perform personal research for anyone.

We're getting hundreds of emails a day, so we're sorry, but
requests for research help will not be responded to.

Our Data

Unlike other online genealogy projects, we have data on this main site, though these topics are usually broader in scope.
Click any of the buttons below to view the data available here...

NOTE: For Obituary Submissions:
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE DATA OFF OF OTHER WEBSITES to submit to us.
This includes funeral home sites... unless the obituary is for your family and/or someone from your family wrote it. If that's not the case, don't copy other sites' data to submit to us.
Thank you for helping us to stay on the right side of the copyright laws!
