MALARIAL HEART

Remarks: Out of a population of over 2300 in every district, I found there were only thirty-five deaths during the census year, and that most of those are childrenwho did notreach of the age of one (1 ) year, and the physicians say we have never had a healthier year than the last. Pneumonia and meningitis seem topredominate more than any other diseases. The Negroes seem to live longer than the whites in this district as I found very few old white persons, but a good many colored over 90, one 105 years of age. - A.J. Pickett
