Bullock County was established by act of December 5, 1866. Territory was taken from Macon, Pike, Montgomery, and Barbour counties. The county took its name from Colonel E. C. Bullock, of Eufaula. In 1867, Union Springs was chosen as the county seat. As of the 2010 census the population was 10,914.
