JOHN OVATT (Ovat) – son of Mike Ovatt, was born in Austria (possibly Czechoslovakia or Slovakia) on October 25, 1872. He immigrated to America and became a resident of Warrior, Alabama sometime between 1897 and 1905. He worked as a coal miner until 1929. His married life more than likely began in Mike Ovatt, possibly named
after his grandfather, married Ella Moody in Kentucky where he
made his home and died March 30, 1936 from a kidney problem. Annie Ovatt married Willie (Bill)
Leonard Stover and died February 25, 1988 in Warrior, Alabama. Annie Ovatt Stover is buried at the
Watts
Union Cemetery. George Andrew Ovatt married Trixie
Mary Lowe, also the sister of Willie Leonard Stover, on August 7, 1930 in
Warrior, Alabama and died at the age of
95 on February 17, 1973 in Warrior, Alabama. George is also buried at the
Watts
Union Cemetery. Mary Helen Ovatt married a Mr.
Bagwell and adopted a daughter named Linda. Susie M. Ovatt married Marshall S.
Zornes and later married Max Beck.
Not much is known about the two youngest siblings. John Ovatt went to his
final resting place on January 17, 1936 in Warrior, Alabama and is buried
in Brookside, Alabama at St. Michael’s Catholic Church Cemetery. His
wife Mary followed on March 14, 1940 in the same place and is also buried
in Brookside, Alabama at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
