Saint Florian's first place of business was Adam Zulauf's
Store. Appointed postmaster on July 25, 1879, Zulauf made the
post office a part of his store. By 1881, he had built a two-story,
eight room brick building, with a hotel addition for travelers and
boarders. In the same year John Schaut opened a general
Near the entrance to the modern Indian Springs Subdivision
on U.S. Highway 73 East is the pioneer Cain and Middilton
Cemetery. Three of the early graves here are: William James
Middilton who was born in 1831 and died 1846; Elizabeth Cain,
wife of John Cain. Esquire, born in 1796 and died in 1837; Elmirah
who died in 1844 at the age of thirteen years.
