LLOYD, FRANCIS
BARTOW
(Rufus Sanders), editor and author, was born August
12, at Mt. Willing, Lowndes County; son of Cary
Chappelle Lloyd q. v.). He received his primary
education in the common schools of the state, and
concluded his studies at the Greenville high school
under Prof. J. M. Thigpen. At twenty years of age he
read law for a short time in the office of J. C.
Richardson, b«t abandoned his profession for newspaper
work. He was reporter on the "Selma Times" and
afterwards, city editor. Later he entered the service of
the "Montgomery Advertiser" and was city editor of that
paper for six years. He was elected to the legislature
of Alabama from Montgomery County, 1B9Q-01. and was
again returned to the lower house from Butler County. He
was a Democrat and President Cleveland, 1893, became
bookkeeper with the Prattville cotton mills and banking
company, was elected judge of probate of Autauga County
in 1898, and served in that office for three terms,
married, two children; 2. John R., civil service,
Chattanooga, Tenn.; 3. Mel, Prattville. Last residence:
