From the front slide of the microfilm from the
Alabama Department of Archives and History:
We can say with certainty that The Marion County
Republican originated on October 6, 1908, since that issue
carried the designation "Vol 1, No 1." The weekly paper was
undoubtedly Republican in sentiment; its editor, W. L. FORD,
endorsed Taft in the upcoming national election and was himself the
party's candidate for county tax assessor. How long The
Republican was able to fulfill its announced intention to
"Commend the Good; Condemn the Bad" remains conjectural; the last
issue found was dated January 06, 1909.
