William Lambert and His Descendants



William Lambert, his brother, Nathan and four sisters, Mary and Charity, the other names not known, migrated from Georgia, exact location not known. They were orphans and settled on land several miles south of Citronelle, Mobile Co., Ala., near Old St. Stephens' Road, later called Mobile - Citronelle Highway. The settlement was named "Lambert Station" and today is still known by that name. Nathan Lambert settled in Washington Co., Ala. Mary (nicknamed Polly) married William Pearce, one son born to them - died. Charity Lambert was married four times, two Mr. Howards and two Mr. Smiths.

William Lambert was married to Nancy Padgett, age 15 years and they had six children: 1. James (Jim); 2. William Franklin (Frank); 3. Mary; 4. Sara Ann; 5. Rachel; 6. Charity. These people all lived, married and raised their families in and around Lambert Station, where the 0ld Lambert Mission Baptist Church still stands and was used as a place of worship until a few years ago. Behind the church is the Family Cemetery and, also, Community cemetery.

This was once a thriving community with schools and churches. Some of the early settlers were the Brocks, Hattensteins, Simmons, Howards and Cahalls. All of the information above was in an article by James Johnson Dickinson, son of Sarah Ann Lambert and Mr. Dickinson. Jim, who is 88 years young this year (1978), still resides in Lambert Station.

William Lambert gave, let or deeded the right­of-way to the M & 0 Railroad through his property at Lambert Station, Ala. The railroad later became known as Gulf Mobile & Ohio Railroad in the year 1850.

The children of William and Nancy married the following:
William Franklin Lambert (July 29, 1855 - Mar. 29, 1917) married Mary Bailey (1854 - 1884) in 1917. Both are buried in Lambert Cemetery. Their children were Annie Bell Lambert, Fannie Augusta Lambert, William Wesley Lambert and Charles Alan Lambert. The mother died with her fifth child. Their father died of heart trouble years later. Some years after Mary died William Franklin Lambert married Mary Matilda Gartman Bailey, whose first husband, William (Bill) Bailey, died in a saw mill explosion. Aunt Till, as she was called, helped raise the four children. Annie Bell Lambert married Hiram Bruno Mizelle and their children were: Annie Oniree Mizelle, Augusta Mizelle, Ethel Mamie Mizelle, Mattie Bell Mizelle, Lambert Wilson Mizelle and Emma Lucille Mizelle.

They were Methodist and all are buried in the cemetery at Wilmer, Mobile County, Alabama.

Fannie Augusta married Winfield Scott Hancock Simmons. Fannie died at the birth of her first child. She is buried in Lambert Cemetery, Lambert Station; Alabama. There is no headstone. Later Winfield S. H. Simmons married Abby Juanita Lewis. There were nine children of this marriage. Abby named their first daughter after Winfields first wife Fannie - Fannie Jeanette.

William Wesley Lambert , born January 4., 1884, died December 27, 1927, Mauvella Cemetery, was married to Elizabeth Wainwright Lewis. Both were born in Mobile County. Six children were born to them: William Franklin Lambert, June 4, 1906, Oak Grove, Ala. Margaret Rosalie Lambert, Feb. 23, 1910, St. Andrew, Fla. Anna Belle Lambert, Dec. 29, 1913, St. Andrew, Fla. Wesley Wells Lambert, Nov. 1916, St. Andrew, Fla., died Dec. 12, 1974, buried Orange Grove, Miss. Elizabeth Marie Lambert, Jan. 24, 1919, Chunchula, Ala., died June 27, 1927, buried Mauvilla Cemetery, Oak Grove, Ala. Mary Elise Lambert, Feb. .18, 1923, Oak Grove, Ala. Charles Allan Lambert (1882 - 1965) married Corrie Burnett, (1888-1962) Baldwin Co., Ala. There were four children of this marriage: Charles Herman Lambert, Mar. 17, 1906 - Aug. 13, 1946, had one son; Byron Burnette Lambert, Bernice Lambert, 1911-1932 Paul Wilson Lambert All are buried Magnolia Cemetery, Mobile, Ala.

Marriages of Annie Mizelle & Hiram Bruno Mizelles' children:
Annie Mizelle, Jr. married Dewey Tanner of Wilmer, Ala. No children., Years after Dewey died Annie married Otto Snow of Georgetown, Ala. Annie taught school in the Mobile County School System. The last 29 years were spent as principal of the schools in Semmes and Wilmer, Ala.. Otto Snow died and is buried in the Methodist Cemetery, Georgetown, Ala.

Augusta Mizelle married Percy McDonald, who was in the Air Force. They had two sons; Robert Sterling and John Wesley. Mr. McDonald lost his life in an air crash while his sons were very young. After his death Augusta resumed teaching in the Mobile County School System. She retired several years ago.

Ethel Mizelle married Gregory Evans of Wilmer, Ala. Two children were born to them - Thomas Robley and Annibell . Ethel was a school teacher until her retirement.

Mattie Bell died at the age of 13.

Lambert W. Mizelle, only son, married No children. Lambert died and is buried in Wilmer, Ala. Cemetery.

Emma Lucille married Harry S. Strickler of Big Point, Miss. They had six daughters: Mary Ann, Joyce Ann, Emma Jean, Harriet Lucille, Connie and Carol.

Marriages of the children of William Wesley Lambert and Elizabeth Wainwright:

William Franklin Lambert married Sarah Hattenstein Dickinson, widow of Gideon Dickinson, one daughter, Elsie Ruth was born. He later married Mabel Hassau Downing - no children.

Margaret Rosalie Lambert married Cooper W. James from Choctaw Co., Ala. There were four children born of this union: Betty Yvonne, born Aug. 29, 1932; Catharine Rose, born, Oct. 29, 1936; Cooper W. Jr., born Oct. 4, 1938; Perry Lambert, born Nov. 9, 1942. After eleven years marriage they were divorced. 'Four years later Margaret Rosalie Lambert James married George Lane of Mobile Co. in Lucedale, Miss. He died June 13, 1962 and is buried in U. S. National Cemetery, Mobile, Ala.

Anna Bell's first husband was Lotice Earl Courtney - one son; Earle Wayne Courtney. They divorced B and later she married Herbert Clayton Hays. They had three children: Anna Marie, Herbert Clayton, Jr. and Rose Mary.

Wesley Wells married Eunice Lee Murray- two children - 'Wesley W. Jr. and Barbara Ann.

Elizabeth Marie died at age 9.

Mary Elise Lambert married Paul C. Cowdrey of Mass. - four children - Kathleen, Patrick Lambert, Martha Ann and Margaret Elaine.

Brother and sisters of grandfather Lambert: James , Charity, Sara Ann, and ,Rachel. James settled and raised his family around Jackson, Ala. Charity L. married William Dickinson, Mobile Co. Their children - Gideon Dickinson married Sara Hattenstein ... no children.

William Dickinson, born Aug.16, 1886, died June 24, 1914, married Emma Gertrude Lewis, born 1885, died 1918. Their three children were: Lewis, born Mar. 21, 1907; Mavis, born Feb. 27, 1909 and Miriam born Sept. 1913. Will and Gertrude are buried in 'Lambert Cemetery.

James Johnson Dickinson married Eran Booth, both of Mobile Co. Three living children- James William (Jim Will), Ethel and Rachel Grace. Several infants died, Rachel Grace and Eran died and all are buried in Lambert Cemetery, Mobile, Ala. Grace Dickinson never married, buried in Lambert Cemetery.

Sisters of grandfather William Franklin Lambert: Rachel Lambert. married Mr. Joe Powers, Pennsylvania, Ala. - no children, both buried in Lambert Cemetery.

Sarah Ann Lambert, born 1851, died Jan. 26, 1935 married Charles: G. Miller, born Sept. 8 1857, died May 30,1931., Six children were born: John Henry Miller born Nov. 15, 1886, died May 29, 1939, married Carlie Curry. They had three daughters: Johnnie, Elizabeth and Louise.

Mary Miller married Richard Davis - no children. buried in Lambert Cemetery

Corrine Miller married Vander Byrd - four children: Doris, Wallace and Bernice.

Julia. Miller married Morris Rerrell - five children: Lillian, Marian, Albert, Virginia and Jeanette. Virginia Mliller married Townsen Rogers - four children:' La Barron (killed in service), Mavis, Annette, and Helen.

Eva Miller married Alec Kidd - one child, Estelle Rachel Dickinson, sister of James married Sydney Whitsett - one son, Edward.
