Montgomery County AL was named for Maj. Lemuel Putnam Montgomery and was created on the 6th of December 1816. The Capital of Alabama and and the first Capital of the Confederate States of America is Montgomery. Montgomery also figured prominently in the Civil Rights movement when Rosa Parks, a black lady, sat in the front seat of the bus one day in 1955. Who can forget he famous Dr. Martin Luther King march that took place here in 1965. You can ask anyone in the county, and they will tell you, that the spirit of Hank Williams is a friendly presence in Montgomery.
