Welcome to

Pickens County Alabama

Genealogy and History

Volunteers Dedicated to Free Genealogy

My name is Veneta McKinney and I will be your Pickens County host. Unfortunately I am not from Pickens County - I am from the Marion/ Lamar area. If you have a love of Pickens County history and would like to host this site, please let me know and I can turn it over to you.
I hope to transcribe as much data and get it online as quickly as I can. If you have anything you wish to share, please don't hesitate to send it in. Our goal is to help you track your ancestors through time by transcribing genealogical and historical data for the free use of all researchers.
We're looking for folks who share our dedication to putting data online and are interested in helping this project be as successful as it can be. If you are interested in joining Genealogy Trails, view our Volunteer Page for further information and then contact Kim.
(Enough knowledge to make a basic webpage and a desire to transcribe data is required)

As you are doing your research, don't forget to check out our national items on the front page of the Genealogy Trails website. Very interesting reading!

CHECK BACK OFTEN AS WE ARE CONSTANTLY UPDATING
We are sorry that we don't have time to perform personal research.
Any data we come across for this county, will be placed on this site.  To be kept notified of our website updates, be sure and join our MAILING LIST We do it by regions - join as many or as few as you're interested in. This is where we notify everyone of updates and changes.

County Information
Pickens County was established on December 20, 1820, and named for revolutionary war hero General Andrew Pickens of South Carolina. The county seat was relocated from Pickensville to Carrollton in 1830.

The first courthouse in Carrollton was burned on April 5, 1865 by troops of Union General John T. Croxton. A second courthouse was also destroyed by fire on November 16, 1876.
