EPES
A Sweet Letter From a Clever Girl Who Gives Us the News.

EPES, May 13, 1898. Our little town is on a boom. Seven new dwellings are being erected, among which is a compress and a Baptist church.

We had quite a cold spell on the 16th of this month, but am glad to say that there was not any frost.

Mrs. S. E. Wilbourne is having a fine ging and grist mill put up and will [sell?] gin for $1 per bale.

Miss Sarah Turrentine, of Gadsden is spending a few months with relatives near here. She is an accomplished and refined young lady and one of Gadsden's fairest young girls. A certain young man will be sad, oh how sad, when she leaves for home.

Mrs. O. S. Williams has returned from a pleasant visit to her niece, Mrs. W. C. Weddell of Mobile.

Some one seemed to work their rabbit foot in vain Sunday night.

The farmers are getting along finely with their crops so far but rain is badly needed in this vicinity.

Quite a number went from here on the excursion to Chattanooga Monday.

The young folks are having a nice time fishing.

They are building a branch road from the A. G. S. out to the saw mill.

A good many boys went from around here to fight the Spaniards.

We are sorry to hear that Mrs. Lewis happened to the misfortune of getting her house burned. It is supposed to have caught from the train. They saved nearly all the furniture. Adieu. Your little friend, KITTIE CLYDE
