Fred Earnest Daniels
Services for Fred Earnest Daniels, a former goldminer, will be held at
5 p.m. Sunday at the Willow Chapel with the Rev. Bill Pepper
officiating.
Mr. Daniels, 85, died March 25 at the Palmer Pioneer Home.
Born March 21, 1902, in Irwin, Idaho, he first moved to Alaska in 1925,
living in Loring before moving back to Idaho. He returned to Alaska in
1930, mined gold in Juneau until 1946 and lived in Anchorage until
1960, when he homesteaded in Willow.
He leaves his daughters, Joy Bennett and Bebe Graham, both of Willow,
Anita Delany of Browntown, W.V., and Carlyn Sue of Point MacKenzie; his
sons, Earnest, of Rochester, Minn.; Danny, of New Orleans, and Jay
Bennett of Willow; his brothers, Doc, of Helena, Mont., and Lewis, of
Lewiston, Idaho; his sister, Maybel, of Las Vegas; 20 grandchildren,
numerous greatgrandchildren and 1 greatgreatgrandchild.
Memorials may be directed to the Alaska Treatment Center for Crippled
Children, 3710 E. 20th Ave., Anchorage, 99504, or to the Willow Chapel
Childrens Mission, General Delivery, Willow, 99688.
Burial will be in the Kashwitna Community Church Cemetery. Local arrangements by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.

John Devries, Sr.
John DeVries Sr., 71, a longtime Palmer resident, died Dec. 13 at
Valley Hospital in Palmer following a lengthy illness with cancer. A
memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United
Protestant Church in Palmer with the Rev. Henry Guinotte officiating.
Mr. DeVries was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Conrad, Mont. He had lived in
Alaska since 1945. He was an auto mechanic and shop teacher in the
MatSu Valley School District until his retirement in 1976. Following
his retirement, Mr. DeVries and his wife volunteered their services
teaching farming operations for one year in Kingston, Jamica. He owned
DeVries Enterprises, which operated caterpillar tractors and did
snowplowing. His hobby was mechanics and he rebuilt old motors and an
old saw mill. He also did volunteer work at the Transportation Museum
in Palmer. He was a member, elder and trustee of the United Protestant
Church in Palmer.
He leaves his wife of 44 years,
Jessie, of Palmer; his sons, David, of Eagle River, Andrew, of Palmer,
and John Jr., of Anchorage; his daughter, Marie Keen, of Palmer; his
brothers, Robert, Raymond and Arthur, all of Conrad, Herbert, of
Polson, Mont.; his sisters, Margaret, of Conrad, and Lydia de Maagd, of
Coopersville, Mich.; seven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the Alaska Museum of Transportation and
Industry, Palmer 99645. Inurnment will be in the Palmer Pioneer
Cemetery in the spring. Local arrangements were by Kehl's Palmer
Memorial Chapel.

John Dewan, Jr.
John Thomas Dewan Jr., 32, a Houston resident, died April 5, 1989, at
Providence Hospital in Anchorage. A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m.
Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wasilla with the Rev.
Michael Warfel officiating.
He was born Aug. 6, 1956, in Gilbert, Ariz. He was a resident of Alaska
since 1968, graduated from Wasilla High School in 1974, and served in
the U.S. Army from 1974 to 1976.
Mr. Dewan was a member of the Elk's Lodge, the American Legion, the Big
Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Dive Team, and the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in Wasilla. He worked in retail sales at Alaska
Industrial Hardware and Napa Auto Supply, both located in Wasilla.
He leaves his wife, Ethel, and son, John, of Houston; his parents,
Helen and John Dewan Sr. of Wasilla; his sisters, Helen Sharon and
Dottie Borton, both residents of Wasilla, and Janice Clark of
Anchorage; his brothers, Jason and Michael, both of Wasilla; and five
nephews.
Burial will immediately follow the funeral at the Wasilla Aurora
Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will then meet at the
American Legion Hall in Wasilla. Pallbearers are Jason Dewan, Michael
Dewan, Wayne Oxford, Duane Good, Jeff Borton, Michael Sharon. Memorials
may be sent to the Big Lake Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 520869,
Big Lake, 99652; or the Houston Volunteer Fire Department, Houston,
99694. Local arrangements were by Kehl's Palmer Memorial Chapel.
