WHITE WOMAN IS JUDGE OF NAVAJOS
Mrs. John Wetherill of Kayenta, Ariz., who came here with the band of Navajo Indians seen in the Pioneer day parade. Is one of the few white persons who have succeeded In mastering the Navajo tongue She is one of the Judges of the tribe, a position of the highest rank among the Indians, there being no chiefs.
Mrs. Wetherill says that In the Navajo tribe the women are supreme, woman suffrage having attained Its highest degree of practice among these Indians. She believes they are descendants of the cliff dwellers, traditions concerning the latter being handed down from generation to generation.
