City Election to be Held Tuesday - April 2, 1942 |
Little Interest Shown at Caucus Held Tuesday Night
City election will be held Tuesday, April 7.
Citizens of the community seemed to take little interest in the city caucas, held at the courthouse Tuesady night, and there was a smaller attendance than in many year.
Rev. H.B. Ament served at chairman, and officers now serving the city were renominated without opposition. Sam Dudley was nominated for city recorder. W.B. Norsworthy had served in the capacity the unexpired term of Don Essex, who was city recorder before moving to Stuttgart. B. Latimer's name was the only new one placed on the ticket for an alderman.
Nomination were as follows: for mayor, J.W. Lorick; for marshall, Earl Rownd; for city attorney, George Pike; for recorder, Sam Dudley; for alderman, Ward One, Bennett McMillian and Ben Toland; Ward Two, George Hall and Cleon Shackelford, and Ward Three, Sidney Rousseau and Booker Latimer.
Election judges, clerk and sheriff are as follows:
Ward One - Judges, Morris Nichol-Kewen and G.R. Holloway; Sheriff, son, J.L. Braswell, and Clarence Kirkpatrick; Clerks, Mrs. Ola McPhillip Graw.
Ward Two - Judges, Mrs. John Gunnell, Jrs. L.E. Cosx and Mrs. Luther Black; Clerks, L. R. Dearing and Mrs. B.M. Harlan; sheriff, B.M. Rowland.
Ward Three - Judges, Herman Prange, Mrs. Joe Laisure and Mrs. T.W. Lowrey; clerks, Roy McKewen and Mrs. J.H. Trichell; sheriff, Geo. Mills.

J.H. Dean gets Appointment |
J.H. Dean of Little Rock, former County agent of Arkansas County, has been appointed assistant chief of program planning for the Southern Division in Washington, D.C., it was announced the first of the week. He will assist in the development of various phases of the AAA program and interpretation of the program.
In Arkansas, Mr. Dean was district supervisor in the southeast district of the state and commodity specialist handling the rice program. He joined the AAA staff in March, 1939.
Mrs. Dean and their daughter, Rosemary, will remain in Little Rock for a month and will join Mr. Dean in Washington about May 1.

Election Results - April 9, 1942 |
Lorick and Rownd To Serve Again
J.W. Lorick was re-elected mayor of the city of DeWitt and Earl Rownd marshal Tuesday. George Pike was re-elected city attorney and Sam Dudley is the new recorder. All names were placed on the ticket without opposition.
Mr. Lorick begins serving his eleventh year as mayor, and Mr. Rownd beings his fourteenth year as marshal.
Aldermen elected were: Ward One, Bennett McMillian and Ben Toland; Ward Two, George Hall and Cleaon Shackelford and Ward Three, Sidney Rousseau and Booker Latimer.
Little interest seemed to be shown in the election Tuesday and fewer voters were at the polls than in several years.

Walter Duty is St. Charles Mayor
Walter Duty was elected Mayor of St. Charles Tuesday; John H. Simpson, recorder; C.L. Whitmore, S.S. Terry, H.H. Ransey, G.B. Deane and W.A. Sims, Aldermen.
