| Library Board Elects Officers |
The DeWitt Library Board met at the library in the courthouse Monday afternoon for the annual election of offficers. Mrs. Booker Latimer, retiring president, was in charge, and plans for the annual library tag day and other library activities were discussed.
New officers to serve during 1942-43 are: Mrs. Bruce Kendall, president; Mrs. George Leibrock, first vice-president; Mrs. J.J. Sambola, second vice-president; Mrs. G. L. Sanders, secretary-treasurer and Mrs. Bob Davis, librarian.

Mrs. Alice Davis observed her eighty-seventh birthday last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Boswell, where she lives. She was happy to have Mrs. Nance Relyea, who has celebrated her birthday with Mrs. Davis for the past twelve years. Mrs. Emma Bennett, a former neighbor, was a dinner guest also..........Rev. Taylor Daniels, Mrs. Daniels, Gene Paul and Joan Daniels were visiting friends in this vicinity last week. Rev. Daniels is pastor of the Baptist church at Murray, Ky. They live in Louisville..........Rev. H.B. Vaught, Rev. and Mrs. Core were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bennett Tuesday. Rev. Vaught delivered the sermons Tuesday at the Methodist church...........Bill Baker has the mumps. There is an epidemic of chicken pox in the primary room at school..........Alymra school is proud of their former student, Nelma Knoll who was made a member of the National Honor Society at Stuttgart. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Knoll..........Mrs. George Knoll was at her former home Tuesday visiting Mrs. Joe Knoll..........Mr. and Mrs. Warner Fuller were the charming hosts at a dinner Sunday for Rev. Taylor Daniel and family. Mr. and Mrs. Layton Hargrove, DeWitt, Mrs. Phillip Rowell, Little Rock, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Fowler of Brinkley, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vice...........Mrs. Dale Bracewell is the only mother in Almyra with a Silver Star in her window. She recieved word that Noel Guy is in Australia. He wrote that the Australian girls like to talk to American Soldiers...........Mrs. Grace Hillman is home on business this week. She plans to make a permanent resident here soon..........Mrs. Cooper is home visiting her mother, Mrs. Cash..........Rev. Steele's family have established a new residence throught he aid of their friends in Calico Rock and elsewhere. They were so unfortunate to lose all their personal belongings when their home burned two weeks ago in Calico Rock. Rev. Steele has been an active minister until a recent stroke. He made many friends while pastor of the Almyra Baptist church..........Spring holidays from college, and Miss Genieve Hansen is home with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gere. She will be the honoree at several informatl parties...........Mrs. Harold Vos has been ill this week..........Mrs. and Mrs. Lawrence Bennett accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Joe Knoll to Little Rock last Friday..........Rev. Bassenger of Mulberry will move his family to this community in about four or five weeks. The high school in Mulberry was suddenly in need of an English, and Math teacher for seniors. Rev. Bassinger answered the emergency until other relief comes. This generous act on his part will permit members of the senior class there to graduate who otherwise could not. As soon as this terminates, the Bassengers will take residence int he Baptist parsonage..........Mrs. Wyman McDaniel is in San Diego visiting her husband..........Mrs. Rex Jones attended the call meeting of the Northern district of H.D.C. under the request of Miss Ruth McIllney, Mrs. Geo. Knoll acted as temporary chairman..........Mrs. Guy Bennett, Mrs. Sarah Voss accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Frank McKibben of Stuttgart to Marshalltown, Iowa, where their brother was seriously ill. They returned this Sunday.........Mrs. Alvin Hein will not be able to return to her work for several weeks..........I.M. Bennett and J.A. Osborne were in DeWitt Tuesday on business.......... Geo. C. Sebree returned from Baltimore, Md., where he had visited Billy Warneck. He will go into military service next month..........Dewey Ellenberg was home on a ten day furlough. He returned to Indiantown Gap, Pa...........Mrs. Joe Rosencrantz and famly have the sympathy of her many friends in Almyra in the recent loss of her husband..........Rev. Delta Delta Iota Has Progressive Dinner
Delta Delta Iota entertained Friday evening, March 27, with a prograssive dinner, which began at the home of Miss Sarah Lamar with cocktails.
From there the party continued to the home of Miss Gloria Rawlings for a salad course.
The main course was served at the home of Miss Mildred Ruffin, where a program was presented, Miss Lamar and Miss Wanda Stephenson taking part.
For dessert the party went to the home of Miss Bonnie Burnett, and afterwards all attended the movies.
The Delta Delta Iota members, their sponsor and guests atteneded. The following couples were present: Miss Sarah and Lamar and Billy Sebree; Miss Bonnie Burnett and Clayton Bowers; Miss Wanda Stephenson and Robert Neukam; Miss Mildred Ruffin and Billy Hoover; Miss Alice Leslie and W.B. Fulton; Miss Donna Faye Rawls and James Lamar; Miss Betty Meins and Charles Ed Stephenson; Miss Doris Hobbs and Bobby Blythe; Miss Gloria Rawlings and Calvin Danner; Miss Imogene Simpson and C.P. Birthday Party Honors Three
Mrs. Clarence Shearer, Mrs. Finch Steele and Mrs. Dan McKenzie, whose birthdays were Wednesday, April 1, were honored at a party at the home of Mrs. J.A. McKay yesterday afternoon.
Others present were Mrs. Madison Satchfield, Mrs. J.M. Henderson, Mrs. W.C. Poynter, Mrs. George Lamar and Mrs. McKay.
Lovely gifts were presented the three guests of honor, and the game of cootie was played. Mrs. Poynter won high score. Refreshments were served after the game.

New Officers Elected at P.T.A.
Election of officers was the main item of business before the meeting of the DeWitt Parent-Teacher Association Wednesday afternoon, March 25, at the high school auditorium. The report of the nominating committee for 1942-43 officers, accepted by the organization, was: President, Mrs. George Leibrock; First Vice-President, Mrs. Earl Spratlin; Second Vice-president, Mrs. M.G. Lamar; Secretary, Mrs. Malcomb Scougale; Treasurer, Mrs. W.H. Davis, and Parliamentarian, Mrs. Katherine Williamson.
Mrs. George Lamar, retiring president, presided, and Dr. R.B. Glover led in prayer.
Reports were heard on the recent tuberculin and eye examinations made in the school here. Each member was asked to pay ten cents for the purpose of placing the playground equipment on the school yard. Mrs. George Leibrock and Mrs. George Lamar were elected delegates, to attend the State P.T.A. meeting in Hot Springs. The constitution and by-laws were ready by Miss Betty Lu Hudson.
Mrs. T.B. Hudson, program chairman, introduced the speaker of the afternoon, Dr. R.B. Glover, who had as his subjec, "Youth Prepares For a Job."

W.C.T.U Met with Mrs. Valentine
The Woman's Christian Temperance Union met Thursday afternoon March 26, in the home of Mrs. A.H. Valentine for the monthly meeting, with Mrs. Jason Essex as co-hostess.
Devotional and program were conducted by Mrs. E.A. Morris. Mrs. C.N. Ruffin gave an interesting article on the life of Edgar A. Poe under the caption "The Motive in Alcoholism" proving that he was a genius not because of, but in spite of his drinking. Mrs. W. F. Schallhorn and Mrs. Dipert gave articles showing the dangers from liquor in this time of war. Mrs. A Polstra read a poem on consecration to our task. A song, "I'll Eat Dry" to an old tune, was enjoyed by all.
The business session, presided over by the president, Mrs. Verne Bowers, included the appointment of Miss Anna Robinson as director of Speech Contests, and the announcement that the first of these contests would be held the second week in April at Prairie Union Church.
Meeting closed with eht Araonic benediction. Delicious refreshments were served by the two hostesses. Twenty were present.

Sub Debs To Have Banquet
At the regular business meeting of the Sub Deb Club, at the home of Miss Margaret Putsch, last Wednesday evening, plans were made for the annual banquet, which will be Friday evening, April 3rd.
After the business was completed, delicious refreshements were served by the hostess.

Surprise Party for Mrs. McKenzie
Mrs. Dan McKenzie was pleasantly surprised at 4:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon when friends called at her home to help celebrate her birthday.
Rook was played, and refreshments furnished by the callers, were served from the dining room table. Mrs. McKenzie recieved a number of gifts.
Those present besides the honoree were Mrs. L.A.Black, Mrs. G.A Sullards, Mrs. C.L. Morgan, Mrs. L.F. Burnett, Mrs. M.F. Montgomery, Mrs. A.W. Wright, Mrs. T.B. Hudson, Mrs. Sally Childres, Mrs. R.D. Rasco and Mrs. Ozette Wright.

Rotary Spokes
Rotary met at regular luncheon Wednesday noon. It had for its guests, young Jimmie Bowers, who is recovering from infantile paralysis, Dale Hampton, who has been serving as a page to the Congress in Washington, Dr. Glover, Rev. Rowe and Rev. Cox, who are holding the meeting at the Baptist church.
Bill Davis had the program and gave an interesting story of Walter Winchell.

Anniversary Party
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Pfaffenberger were pleasantly surprised Friday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Rose. The occasion being their fifth wedding anniversary. Thirty friends were invited. The guests played cards thoughout the evening. The following recieved prizes, Mrs. Marvin Lehman, Theo Richter and Hubert Duderstandt. The guest of honor recieved many beautiful gifts. Later in the evening delicious refreshments were served by the hostess.
Mrs. Bob Lowe and daughter, Carolyn, returned Monday from a two week visit with relatives in Jasper..........Dr. and Mrs. A.M. Lowe spent Sunday and Monday with their son, Chester, and family in Little Rock..........Mrs. T.J. Strode and son, Leon and daughter Dona spent the past week with T.J. Strode in Booneville where he is employed..........Art Richter, Emery Coffman, Fred Collier, Bro. V.D. Kelley, all of Gillett, and Gilbert Franzen and Chet Ponds of Stuttgart left Monday morning for a two week turkey hunt on Big Island..........Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schwede, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Rose were Stuttgart visitors Wednesday..........Mr. and Mrs. Fred Collier who have been attending the races in Hot Springs returned home Sunday..........Miss Dona Reed of Tichnor spent the weekend as the house guest of Miss Billie Jean Perkins..........Mr. and Mrs. Farrelly Bass and daughter, Mary Elizabeth, Mr. and Mrs. Terrence Bas and son, Pat, of DeWitt were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. T.P. Bass, Sr. Sunday and attended church services at St. Ann's Catholic Church..........Clifford Beam who is with the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky, spent the weekend with relatives..........Mr. and Mrs. Lee Corum left their home in Hot Springs Thursday March 19th, by train for Miami, Fla., where they spent the weekend leaving by sea plane Monday for Cindad, Trujillo, Dominicon Republic where Mr. Corum will be engaged with the Coast Guard. Mrs. Corum is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.J. Place of Gillett..........Mr. and Mrs. George Woerner and family, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Davis of Stuttgart were guests in the home of Mrs. Eva Brown Sunday..........Mrs. John Jenkins and daughter, Sharon, of Lake Dick visited Mrs. Jenkins sister, Mrs. Charles Reeder and family the first of the week. Mrs. Jenkins was before her marriage Miss R.U. Stevens.........Mr. and Mrs. Len Wallace and family visited Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gorden at moro Sunday..........Mrs. Ivan Shrader left Saturday for several days visit with relatives and friends in Delsplaine and Paragould.
