SPRINGS, ARK--MARY CARROLL DEER, 87, of Heber Springs, formerly of
Blytheville, Ark., and Memphis, homemaker, died of heart disease
Tuesday in Heber Springs. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Heber
Springs First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member, with a
private burial in Blytheville. Olmstead Funeral Home in Heber Springs
has charge.
She had served on the session board at the church. Mrs. Deer, the wife of John Deer and widow of Clarence S. Dowdy, also leaves three daughters, Mary Dowdy Hardy of Blytheville, Lynn Dowdy Powell of Memphis and Carol Dowdy Whitner of Hot Springs, Ark.; a son, Dr. Thomas S. MO.--DR. JAMES DEWEY GRABLE passed away at Southeast Missouri Hospital
in Cape Girardeau Wednesday morning, Nov. 7, 2007, after a brief
illness. He was born Sept. 24, 1927 in Quitman, Ark., son of
Clyde Thomas and Norma Hammock Grable. The oldest of four
brothers, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers,
Herbert C. Grable and Jack I. Grable. He is survived by his
youngest brother, Kenneth N. Grable of Nashville, Tenn.
Dr. Grable's primary education was from Little Rock, Ark., Public School System. His pre-medical education was at Little Rock Junior College, now known as the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine June 3, 1950. He served in the U. S. Army Medical Corp from 1950 to 1953, serving in the Korean conflict in 1951 and 1952. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4924. Grable married Virginia Lee White Feb. 25, 1950, who preceded him in death. He is survived by four children, Thelma Ann Ashbrand and husband Mike of Middleton, TN, Martha Kaye Grable of Nashville, James Dewey Grable Jr. and wife Patty of Hopkinsville, KY, and Thomas Monroe Grable of Memphis, Tn. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Chris Ashbrand and wife Heather of Memphis, Amanda Lucretia Cagle and husband Daniel of Gallaway, Tn, Bradley Austin Grable of Hopkinsville, Timothy Carlton Ashbrand of Lakeland, Tn, Matthew Shelby Grable of Cape Girardeau, Carey Alan Grable of Hopkinsville and Jamie LeeAnn Vickers and husband Ryan of Mt. Juliet, Tn, as well as a great-grandson, Parker Reed Ashbrand of Memphis. He is survived by his wife, Lorene Hoxworth Holland Grable, who he married Nov. 29, 1980. Dr. Grable was a well-known practicing physician for over 55 years, with 30 years in family practice at Portageville, Mo. He was medical director of Doctors Park Surgery in Cape Girardeau 18 years. He was currently a practicing physician at A Woman's Life Clinic in Cape Girardeau. His professional affiliations include the Cape Girardeau County Area Medical Society, Missouri State Medical Association, American Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians. As a 32nd Degree Freemason, he was a member of Odom Lodge 671 in Portageville, Point Pleasant Lodge 176 at Conran, Mo., Centennial Chapter 141, Royal Arch Masons at Portageville, El Camino Council 52 Cryptic Masons in Sikeston, Mo., Cape Girardeau Commandery 55, Knights Templar, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, St. Louis, Order of Eastern Star, Portageville Chapter 286, Sword of Bunker Hill and Andrew Jackson Order 43, Jackson. Dr. Grable was a charter member of La Croix United Methodist Church, Cape Girardeau. His genuine concern and love for others leaves a legacy for a host of family, friends and colleagues. Visitation will be Saturday from 3-8 p.m. at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Masonic service conducted by St. Mark's Masonic Lodge will be at 7. The funeral will be Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at La Croix United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ron Watts officiating. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. at Portageville Cemetery in Portageville. ![]() PORTLAND, OR–EACLE MYRLE HARRIS--A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 28, 1999, in Valley View Memorial Park in Newberg for Eacle Myrle Harris, who died May 26 at age 89. Mr. Harris was born April 22, 1910, in Cleburne County, Ark., and was raised in the Stockton, Calif., area. He had lived in the Portland area since 1937 and was an electronics troubleshooter for Zenith for several years before retiring. He had lived in Newberg for about 20 years. In 1935, he married Genevieve "Jean" Churchill. Survivors include his wife; daughter, Barbara Doede of Newberg; brother, Clarence of Los Altos, Calif.; and three grandchildren. bluegrass writer and performer who made appearances at the Grand Ole
Opry, has died after a long battle with lung and throat cancer. He was
72.
Rainey, born in Cleburne County, Ark., died Saturday night (January 23, 1993) at a Batesville, Ark., hospital, according to his brother, Rev. Owen Rainey of Springfield, Mo. Grand Ole Opry performer Vic Willis - now of the Vic Willis Trio and formerly of the Willis Brothers - remembered Rainey as a personal friend. Rainey's greatest commercial success was in the late 1930s and early 1940s, Willis said. ''Wayne was an astute businessman as well as a good bluegrass harmonica player,'' Willis said. ''He marketed some of his albums on radio.'' The Willis Brothers performed Rainey's composition Why Don't You Haul Off and Love Me, Willis said. Owen Rainey said his brother recorded with the King, Decca, Hill and Range labels. Wayne Rainey at one time owned and operated the only record-making factory in Arkansas, Rimrock Recording Press in Concord, Ark., his brother said. Rainey is survived by his wife, Lois, of Drasco, Ark., a son and two daughters, three brothers and a sister. --Commercial Appeal, The (Memphis, TN) - January 26, 1993 ![]() WILLIAMSBURG, VA -TED RAMER, 73, died Thursday, Aug. 15, (1991) in Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Ramer was a native of Cleburne County, Ark., and a resident of Williamsburg since 1959. He retired in 1982 as an illustrator at Fort Eustis after 23 years. The Army veteran of World War II was wounded in Germany and received the Purple Heart and two Oak Leaf clusters. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Patrick Henry Chapter, No. 34. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1959. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn G. Ramer; two daughters, Kitty Ramer Williams of Milton, Fla., and Hilda Ramer Ross of Fort Smith, Ark.; two sons, Robert Ted Ramer of Glasgow, Va., and John D. Ramer of Fairfax; a sister, Hilda R. Moore of Hattiesburg, Miss.; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Williamsburg Memorial Park by Rev. Jerry W. Williams. CA–BETTY GRAN RICE, (Dec. 5, 1930 -- June 19, 1998), 67, of
Merced died Friday at Stanford Medical Center, Palo Alto. Mrs. Rice was
a native of Pearson, Cleburne County, Ark. She had lived in Modesto
since 1952. She was a homemaker. She was a hospital volunteer from 1977
to 1982. She is survived by her husband, James C. Rice of Merced;
children, Lisa Chavez of Merced, Douglas Rice of Atwater, Judy Nordyke
of Sunnyvale and Ferrial Rice of Arkansas; brother, Larry Pierce of
Arkansas; sisters, Anna Mae Bust of Texas and Sue Pierce of Arkansas;
and three grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m.
Thursday at Wilson Family Funeral Chapel, Atwater. Burial will be at

Modesto, CA--William Loren Truesdail, 63, of Heber Springs, Ark., died
Wednesday at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Clinton, Ark.
Mr. Truesdail was a native of Atchison, Kan. He lived in Cleburne County, Ark., four years and previously lived in Modesto. He was a boilermaker. He is survived by his wife, Gwen Truesdail of Heber Springs; children, Jeff Truesdail and Cindi Karras, both of Modesto, and Charles Truesdail of Beebe, Ark.; brothers, Charles Woodard of Denair and Arthur Truesdail of Waterford; a sister, Irene Wright of Emmett, Idaho; and six grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Olmstead Chapel, Heber Springs. FERRY, ARK--MARSHALL VANCE 'ADMIRAL' WILLIAMS, 79, of Greers Ferry,
formerly of Memphis, former owner of A & B Garage in Memphis, died
of cancer Wednesday at his home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Memphis Funeral Home Union Chapel with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown. He was a World War II Navy veteran, and a member of Greers Ferry Veterans of Foreign Wars and Epworth Methodist Church.
