CONFEDERATE PENSION ROLL OF CONWAY COUNTY
Morrilton
Democrat newspaper, Aug 6, 1931, pg 1; contributed by Sharon Smith
Only Three Out of 38 Pensioners Live
Outside of Conway County.
There are 38 persons on the Confederate Pension
roll of Conway Co. of which there are three or possibly four living out ot the
county, according to Cleo CHEEK, county clerk.
None of the pensioners of this
county live out of the state and those living outside of Conway Co. may have
their names transferred to the roll of the county in which they reside, it was
said.
Until about two weeks ago Conway Co had a total of 50 widows and nine
veterans drawing pensions. The death of Mrs Susan CARLILE of Cleveland reduced
the number of widows to 29.
Two persons living at Little Rock in Pulaski Co
are still on the roll to receive their Confedeate pension checks from the county
clerk's office here. They are H.V. CROZIER and Joe C. CROSBY of Little Rock. Mrs
N.A. HUTTO of Greenbrier, Faulkner Co is also still on the pension roll in
Conway Co.
The law giving pensioners or their widows $50 per month sets forth
certain restrictions. To draw a pension, the applicant must swear he or she does
not have property valued in excess of $500, with homesteads being excepted. A
homestead must not be valued at more than $2500. The applicant, if he or she has
an income of more than $250 per year, is not entitled to a pension.
All of
the pensioners of Conway Co. have been residents of this county or state the
greater part of their lives.
The present pension rolls for Conway Co. is:
