BIRDTOWN, ARK--MRS. ROSA NARSIS BIRD, 73, of Birdtown, widow of S.P. Bird, died at a Morrilton Nursing Home Monday, August 21. She was born at Birdtown, November 17, 1893, a daughter of the late Alex Gordon and Melvina Reid-Gordon. She was a member of the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church. Survivors include six sons, Elbert Bird and Fay Bird of Birdtown, Dewey Bird of Stigler Okla, A/C Roy Bird of Little Rock Air Force Base, Huey Bird and Ralph Bird of Brownsmills N.J., three daughters, Miss Ruth Bird of Jacksonville, Mrs. Imogene French and Mrs. Esther McNew of Morrilton, two brothers, Elmer Gordon of Springfield and John Gordon of England, two sisters Mrs J.C. Huett of Morrilton and Mrs. Allie VonOhlen of Llano Tex, 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were 2p.m. Wednesday at the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church by Elder Carl Williams. Springfield, AR--ROY LANE BIRD, 64, of Springfield, died Friday, May 19, (1995). He was born Oct 12, 1930 in Birdtown, a son of Samuel Porter Bird and Rose Gordon-Bird. Mr. Bird worked for the Conway County Road Department, was a U.S. Air Force Korean veteran and was a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Bird; one stepson, Howard Mitchell of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Patty Thurston of Huntsville and Sharon McCoy of Russellville; two brothers, Huie Bird of Clarksville and Dewey Bird of Stigler Okla; one sister Imogene French of Canadian TX; and two grandchildren. Graveside service was 2 p.m. Monday at Kilgore Cemetery by Elder Earl Smith with burial by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers were Andrew McCoy, Gene Wright, Larry Rehm, Roy Turner, Joe Brown, James Henderson, Eddie Sims and Dean Caston.

WOOLVERTON MOUNTAIN, ARK--CLIFTON T. CLOWERS, born October 30, 1891, d. August 15, 1994.
Clifton T. Clowers of Woolverton Mountain, became a Conway County legend as a result of a popular song written by Merle Kilgore and was performed by many artists including Bing Crosby. The song "Woolverton Mountain," warns would-be suitors to stay away from the mountain where Clifton Clowers was protecting his pretty young daughter because "he's mighty handy with a gun and a knife." He was the son of Thomas Jefferson Clowers and Mary Prince-Clowers. He was a World War I veteran and a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church where he was a deacon for several years. Survivors at the time of his death include three sons, Guy Clowers of Howell, Mich., Ted Clowers of Joplin, Mo., and Burl Clowers of Modesto, Calif.; two daughters, Virginia Green of Hurricane, W. Va., and Burlene Moore of Clinton, Ark.; 15 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren. MRS. NANCY ANN DEATON, aged 76, died at her home at 310 North St Joe street last Thursday at 12:25 p.m. She was born at Center Ridge, May 2, 1875, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Alex Gordon. She was a member of the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, W.R. Deaton of the home; one son, Alex Deaton of Morrilton; one daughter, Mrs Julia Evans of LeGrand Calif; five sisters, Mrs Emma Huett and Mrs Narsis Bird of Birdtown; Mrs Syretha Huett of England; Mrs Cindy Scroggins of Nowata, Okla and Mrs Allie VonOhlen of Illinois; and two brothers, Elmer Gordon of Birdtown and John Gordon of England; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Kilgore Cemetery Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Burial was in charge of Reid Funeral Home.

ROXIE VIOLA DUTTON, age 85 born Nov. 30th 1906 in Conway County Ar. passed away Jan. 29, 1992 and went to be with her Lord and will join her beloved husband Dewey and good friends from the hill country Dutton Mountain, AR. Roxie came to Okla. in Aug. 1934 from Morrilton, AR. and has been a long time resident until her death. She is survived by her sons; John Lee Dutton and Bervle Dean Dutton both of OKC., daughters; Athlene Gunter of OKC. Patsy, Marlene Born of Shawnee, Barbara Yost of OKC. Mary English of Shawnee, 22 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; brothers; Luther Redling of Conway, AR., 2 sisters; Clara Sroczysinki of Morrilton, AR, and Clara Brown of OKC., and numerous nieces, nephews & cousins and other friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey and 2 sons; 1 grandchild, and 1 great grandchild,. Services will be 11am Sat. in the Capitol Hill Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Arlington Cemetery. SOLGOHACHIA, ARK--ODES EPPERSON, age 90, of Solgohachia, Arkansas, died Saturday, January 3, 2004. He was born December 19, 1913, in Formosa, Arkansas, a son of Tom and Margaret Guinn Epperson. Mr. Epperson was a lifelong resident of Conway County and a retired auto mechanic. He was of the General Baptist faith, a Mason for over 50 years, a Master Mason, and a member of Solgohachia Masonic Lodge No. 722. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Laverne Williams Epperson of Solgohachia; sons, Odes Ray Epperson of Little Rock and Michael Lynn and wife, Billie Epperson of Solgohachia; daughters, Betty and husband, Tim McCoy of Solgohachia, and Margaret and husband Kenneth Shannon of Brighton, Colorado; brothers, Arnold Epperson of Alameda, California; Mitchell and Olen Epperson, both of Morrilton; grandchildren, Kenneth McCoy, Stephanie Nix, Michael W. Epperson, Audrey Epperson, Thomas Epperson, and Lee and Linda Epperson, which he helped raise; five great-grandchildren; one great- stepgrandchild; two great-great-stepgrandchildren and the family of Brookridge Life Care Center where he was a resident for two years and three months. He was preceded in death by brothers, Joe and Marvin Epperson; sisters, Avie Isaacs and Pearlie Maxwell Ingram; and grandson, Kenneth Forrest Shannon. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, at Harris Chapel with the Rev. Lindy Davis officiating. Burial was at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers were Sgt. SOLGOHACHIA, ARK--JULIA EVANS, 91, of Solgohachia, died Friday, Nov. 17. She was born Nov. 13, 1904 in Birdtown, a daughter of William and Nancy Gordon-Deaton. She was the widow of Floyd Evans Sr., a member of the Lone Grove Missionary Baptist Church and attended the Morrilton Senior Adult Center.
Survivors include one son, Floyd Evans Jr., of Solgohachia; one daughter, Marie Hagear of Merced Calif.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were Monday, at 2 p.m. at the Bob Neal and Sons Morrilton Funeral Chapel with Bro. Charlie Johnson and Bro. Robert Payne officiating. Burial was in the Kilgore Cemetery. Pallbearers were Glen Powell, Gerald Powell, Charles Conley, John Morrow, Clyde Ruff and Glen Sledge.

CANADIAN, TX--IMOGENE GLADYS FRENCH, 77, of Canadian, Texas, formerly of Morrilton, died Sunday, June 6, 1999. She was born Feb 20, 1922 in Birdtown, a daughter of S.P. Bird and Rose Gordon-Bird. She graduated from Nemo Vista High School in Center Ridge. She married J.D. French on March 13, 1946 in Russellville. They moved to Pampa in 1971 and then to Canadian in 1974. She was a manager at Little Scotty's Convenience Store for several years and was currently employed at the Oasis Truck Stop. Mrs. French was very active with Rachel's Little House Day Care. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Canadian and the First Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, J.D. French of Canadian Texas; one son, Kenny French of Morrilton; four daughters, Gwen Massingill and Margaret Canant, both of Morrilton, Cindy Gray of Conway and Sue Edwards of Dumas Texas; two brothers, Dewey Bird of Stigler Okla., and Huie Bird of Clarksville; eight grandchildren and one step-grandchild. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Canadian, Texas with the Rev. Jay McGauphy, pastor of the Temple Baptist Church in Dumas, officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Kilgore Cemetery near Solgohachia with Dr. Bill BrownFuneral Directors in Canadian. Graveside service will be by Harris at Harris Funeral Home. MORRILTON, ARK--JAMES FRENCH, 81, of Morrilton died July 21, 2004. He was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Damascus, a son of Arthur Richard French and Neva Harper French. He was a retired cattle rancher and the widower of Imogene Bird French. Survivors include his son, Ken French of Morrilton; four daughters, Gwen Massingill of Morrilton, Margaret Canant of Birdtown, Cindy Gray of Conway, and Sue Edwards of Houston, Texas; brothers, Jim French of Bull Shoals and Ted French of Charleston, S.C.; sister, Doris Underwood of Heber Springs; nine grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. Graveside services were 4 p.m. Friday, July 23, at Kilgore Cemetery with Bro. Leon Hill officiating. Arrangements were by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers were his grandsons. Springfield, Ark--ELMER A. GORDON, 83, of Springfield died Wednesday August 13 at a Morrilton hospital. He was born at Center Ridge on April 18, 1892. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was a member of the Pleasant Springs Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ollie Meeler-Gordon; one son, Carl Gordon of North Little Rock; one daughter, Mr. Pauline Combs of Little Rock; one sister, Mrs. Sreathie Huett of Morrilton; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were Friday at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church by Elder Earl Smith and Elder Jerrell Harrison. Burial was at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jeff Williams, J.D. Barnum, Elmer Carroll, Leon Kellar, Royce Williams and Sam Harrington.

CLINTON, AR--OLEN ROBERT GORDON, 93, of Clinton, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006. He was born March 11, 1913, in Center Ridge, a son of William Miles Gordon and Anna (Oliger) Gordon. He was retired from the Conway County Road Department and of the Church of Christ faith. Survivors include his sister, Willie Mae Edwards of Bee Branch. Funeral services were 1 p.m. Tuesday, at the Harris Chapel with Mr. Bruce Bryant officiating. Burial was at Halbrook Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers were Calvin Cates, Roger Edwards, Farris Bonds, Eddie Bryant, Ralph Bryant, and Brian Bryant. MABELVALE, AR--OLLIE GORDON, age 98, of Mabelvale died Monday, March 22, 1999. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Springs Baptist Church at Birdtown for many years and was presently a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Gordon. She is survived by one daughter, Pauline Combs of Mabelvale; one son, Carl D. Gordon of North Little Rock; three grand daughters; seven great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday March 25 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Carrol Koone and Bro. Bobby Slagley officiating. A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. in Kilgore Cemetery at Birdtown Ark. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Roller- Drummond Southwest, 455-5800. SOLGOHACHIA, ARK--LT. COL. OTHELLO "PECK" GORDON, 94, of Solgohachia died May 30, 2003. He was born September 30, 1908, in Solgohachia, Arkansas,a son of the late Paul and Cora Bell Atkinson Gordon. Mr. Gordon was the widower of Sarah Stanford Gordon, a retiredinspector for Arkansas Pollution and Ecology Commission, a formal rural mail carrier, and retired from the Arkansas National Guard. He was also a 32nd degree Mason, a member of First United Methodist Church and a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include his son and wife, John and
Sheila Gordon of Solgohachia; daughter, Susan Gordon of Conway; sister, Lena Horton of Plumerville; and grandson and wife, Scott and Crystal Gordon of Houston, Texas. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the National Wild Turkey Federation. There will be no services. Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

SOLGOHACHIA, ARK--PAUL DE WITT GORDON, 40, of San Francisco, Calif., formerly of Solgohachia, died Wed, Aug 9 (1995). Survivors include parents, Mr. and Mrs. Othello Gordon of Solgohachia; one brother, John S. Gordon of Alvin, Texas; one sister, Susan Gordon of Conway, Ark.; one nephew, Scott Stanford Gordon of Alvin, Texas; one aunt, Lena Hotten of Plumerville; one uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. F. DeWitt Stanford of Orlando, Fla., and several cousins. Paul graduated from Morrilton High School in 1972 and from Southwest State Univ. in Springfield, Mo., with a degree in education in 1976. He then received a degree in law from Rutgers Univ. School of Law in Camden, N.J., in 1979. He was a practicing attorney in Little Rock before moving to San Francisco, Calif., in 1985. PLUMMERVILLE, ARK--JUDGE ROBERT EDGAR GORDON, 78, of Plummerville, died Monday May 8. He was born April 18, 1900 at Center Ridge, a son of William Gordon and Mrs. Laura Hill-Gordon. Judge Gordon was a retired farmer and in 1950 he was elected County Judge for Conway County where he served thru 1958. He was a member of the Plummerville Masonic Lodge No. 253 and a deacon of the Portland Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Etta Adams-Gordon of Plummerville; one brother, Jack Gordon of Plummerville; three sisters, Mrs. Cora Campbell, Mrs. Ollie Brand and Mrs. Hettie Eoff, all of Plummerville. Funeral services were today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at the Portland Baptist Church by Rev. Earl Smith. Burial was at Plummerville Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jimmy Dale Campbell, Jarrell Brown, Bob Gordon, Grady Eoff, Fred Eoff, Glenn Campbell and Bobby Brown. SHAFTER GORDON DIES FROM INJURIES
Plumerville Man is Fatally Injured in Auto Accident Near Lumber Plant
Shafter GORDON, age 32, died at St Anthony's hospital, Sunday afternoon, from injuries sustained Saturday, when the automobile he was driving collided with another driven by Miss Lydia PIERCE. The accident occurred near the plant of the Pierce-Young Lumber Company on Highway No. 64 east of the city. Miss PIERCE was driving east when the two machines collided.
GORDON was said to have been driving at a high rate of speed and at a coroner's inquest held Monday morning have a verdict that GORDON came to his death from injuries received due to his own reckless driving.
Funeral services for Mr GORDON was held at the residence at Plumerville Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev RUSSELL. Burial was in the Plumerville cemetery. He is survived by his widow and three children, his parents, Mr and Mrs W.R. GORDON, and two sisters, Mrs Bud HUIE and Mrs T. BROWN, all of Plumerville. CLEVELAND, ARK--LYONELL HALBROOK, 83, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, Arkansas, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at his home. He was born July 7, 1920, in Cleveland, Arkansas, a son of Andrew J. Halbrook and Hettie Rhoads Halbrook. Mr. Halbrook was a retired postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service, a member of Cleveland United Methodist Church, a farmer, and a Farm Bureau board member for over 30 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Louise Maxwell Halbrook. Survivors include sons, James M. Skipper and wife, Ann, of Pearland, Texas, and John R. Halbrook and wife, Connie, of Atlanta, Georgia; daughters, Jeanne Skipper Rentfro and husband, Raymond, of Russellville, Arkansas, Brenda L. Tyler and husband, Rex, of Appleton, Arkansas, Marinelle Paladino and husband, Sonny, of Center Ridge, and Sherrye L. Futterer and husband, Bruce, of Russellville; sisters, Hettie Mae Hofherr and Reva Dale Thompson and husband, A.O. Thompson, all of Cleveland; grandchildren, Jimmy, Louis, and John Skipper, Rebecca Skipper Hickman, Will Jameson, Jake Tyler, Josh Dalzell, Nell Dalzell Baker, Andrew Tyler Halbrook, and Sarah Louise Halbrook; great-grandchildren, Ky, Josie, Chloe, and Quinn Baker, and Aiden Dalzell; stepgrandchildren, Doug Tyler, Luke Jameson, Marylee Jameson Lajoie, Joe Futterer, Katy Futterer, and a large family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Clyde Halbrook, Opie Halbrook, two infant brothers, and sister, Rose Walls. A special thanks to Starla Mackey for her loving care. Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, December 27, at Cleveland United Methodist Church. Burial was at Old Liberty Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Roberson, Jerry McCormick, Carl Koone, and Archie Campbell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cleveland United Methodist Church or Old Liberty Cemetery Fund.

Center Ridge, AR--MRS. JANE HILL, widow of the late Jeff Hill who died the 10th of last March, died at 5:30 o'clock Friday June 26th at the home of her daughter, Mrs Annie Hensley of Center Ridge.
She was 77 years old and the mother of twelve children, six of whom are still living, namely: Mrs Ann Hensley, Mrs Ollie Hesselbein, Allen and Alex Hill, all of Center Ridge. Mrs Laura Gardner of Plummerville and Mr Cora Stobaugh of Holdenville, Okla.
She leaves 44 grandchildren, several great grand children and a host of very dear friends to mourn her death. She obeyed the gospel in 1872.
Funeral and burial services were conducted at the Pleasant Hill cemetery Saturday, June 27 by Lucian Gordon.

MORRILTON, ARK--ALAN HUETT, 46, of Morrilton died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005. He was born Oct. 26, 1958, in Morrilton, a son of Gene Roger Huett and Helen Phipps Huett. Other than his parents, survivors include his son, Zach Huett, and daughter, Holly Huett, both of Oppelo; brother, Mike Huett of Fort Smith; and two sisters, Donna Parks of Springfield and Beth Medlock of Overland Park, Kan. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at Harris Chapel with Dr. Bill Brown officiating. Burial was at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. She was born at Center Ridge, July 29, 1888, a daughter of the late Alex Gordon and Melvina Reed-Gordon. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, John A. Huett of Birdtown; two brothers, John Gordon of Lonoke and Elmer Gordon of Birdtown and three sisters, Mrs. Sreathie Huett and Mrs. Narsis Bird of Morrilton and Mrs. Allie VonOhlen of Llano Tex. Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church by Elder Earl Smith and Elder Ballard. Burial was at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home. MORRILTON, ARK--JACOB CALVIN HUETT, 84, of Morrilton, died Tuesday August 9. He was born at Springfield September 9, 1892, the son of the late David Wesley and Luella Allgood. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sreathie Gordon-Huett of Morrilton; one daughter, Mrs. Mable Huckaby of England; one foster son, Jessie Conard of Blue Springs MO; one sister Mrs. Iva Williams of Springfield; one brother, Jim Walter Huett of Springfield; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were 10 a.m. Thursday, August 11, at Calvary Baptist Church by Rev. Jerry Jolly. Burial was at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jim Hayes-Huett, Blue Huett, Mike Huett, Louis Huett, Delmus Lierley, J.O. Tipps, Everett Huett and Mike Sinkey. Our community was saddened Tuesday by the death of J.C. Huett who passed away after a lengthy illness. To his family we extend our sympathy. He was born in this community and lived most of his life here.

BIRDTOWN, ARK--JOHN AMOS HUETT, 83, of Birdtown died at a Morrilton hospital Friday, June 26. He was born at Birdtown, August 2, 1886, a son of the late David Wesley Huett and Lottie Williams-Huett. He was a member of the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church and a retired farmer and merchant. Survivors include two brothers, Jim Walter Huett of Birdtown and J.C. Huett of Morrilton; and two sisters, Mrs. Iva Williams of Birdtown and Mrs. Beulah McClaren of Little Rock. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church at Birdtown by Elder Earl Smith. Burial was in Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Jim Hays Huett, Gene Huett, Henry Huett, Clyde Ruff, Dr. J.O. Tipps and Ray Huckaby.

Birdtown, AR--MILLAGE WELDON HUETT, 73, of Birdtown, died at a Morrilton hospital, Thursday, December 17.  He was born at Birdtown, June 10, 1891, a son of the late David Wesley Huett and Lou Ella Allgood-Huett. He was a retired farmer and a Master Mason of the Springfield Masonic Lodge #127. 
Survivors include his wife, Mrs Effie Rogers-Huett of Birdtown; three sons, Eudel Huett, Jim Hayes Huett and Gene Huett, all of Morrilton; two step daughters, Mrs A Mitchell of Lawton Okla; and Mrs Sylvania LaVerne DeLavey of Detroit, Mich; five brothers, J.A. Huett, J.W. Huett, Will Huett and Wood Huett all of Birdtown; and J.C. Huett of Morrilton; two sisters, Mrs Iva Williams and Mrs Beulah McClaren, both of Birdtown and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were 2:00p.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church at Birdtown by Elder Earl Smith. Burial was in Kilgore Cemetery by Reid-Harris Funeral Home.  Dr J.O. MORRILTON, ARK--CARL LEE MOORE, 83, of Morrilton died Tuesday, June 3, 2003. He was born April 5, 1920, in Plumerville, a son of the Rev. Roy Lee Moore and Lena Stacks Moore. Mr. Moore was retired from the Coca-Cola Bottling Co., a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and a World War II Army veteran. 
Survivors include his wife, Burlene Clowers Williams Moore; two sons, Samuel of Center Ridge; two daughters, Linda Bidwell of Morrilton and Mary Quarles of Ocala, Fla.; four stepsons,
Carl Moore Sr. of Morrilton and James MooreWilliam Williams of Russellville, Danny Williams of Center Ridge, Alan Williams of Morrilton, and Glen Williams of Norfolk, Va.; two sisters, Norma Jean Levels of Jacksonville and Marvell Lawson of Morrilton; one brothers, Dennis Moore of Oppelo; 24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday at Harris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Hill and Bro. Brian Pruett officiating. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers were Samuel Carl Moore Jr., Daniel Gilley, John Moore, Tony Kuettle, Dustin Blake Williams, and Matthew Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Kuettle Jr., Dustin Robert Williams, Derrick Williams, Andrew Moore, Shane Kuettle, Shane Moore, Ben Gilley, and Harley Yancey.

PLUMERVILLE, ARK--JOHNNIE DEAN OGDEN MOUROT, 77, of Plumerville, died Friday, May 13, 2005. She was born September 15, 1927, in Center Ridge, Arkansas, a daughter of Walter Earl and Ola Mae Ward Ogden. Mrs. Mourot was the widow of Ernest Mourot, a shoe clerk, and attended Plumerville Methodist Church. Survivors include her son, Bobby Keith Mourot of Plumerville; daughter, Paula and husband, Major Anthony Gortemiller of Leavenworth, Kansas; brother, Willard Ogden and wife, Rosie, of Glendale, Arizona; and grandchildren, Tessie and Brandon Foiles, Collin Mourot, and Ian and Chase Gortemiller. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, May 16, at Harris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Von Dell Mooney officiating. Burial was at Friendship Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers were Brandon Foiles, Mark Ogden, Tommy Fields, Tony Gortemiller, Tom Erbach, and John Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Derrick Ryan, Tessie Foiles, Collin Mourot, Ian Gortemiller, and Chase Gortemiller.

PINE BLUFF, ARK--LEONARD L. "JACK" OGDEN, SR., 70, of Pine Bluff died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003. Born Feb. 6, 1933, in Morrilton, he was the son of Walter Earl and Ola Mae Ward Ogden. He graduated from Plum Bayou High School. Mr. Ogden worked for Central Maloney for several years before opening his own business, Ogden Heating and Air, in 1978. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff and was active in city government. He was also a member of the Jacob Brump Masonic Lodge and United Commercial Travelers. Survivors include his wife, Joy Marie (Harper) Ogden; one son, Leonard L. Ogden Jr. of Pine Bluff; one daughter, Brenda Marie Scott of Pine Bluff; two brothers, Willard Ray Ogden of Phoenix, Ariz., and Rayburn Earl Ogden of California; one sister, Johnnie Mourot of Morrilton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were Monday, 10 a.m., at Hale-South Funeral Home. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

PLUMERVILLE, ARK--CHARLEY PEARSON, 74, of Plumerville died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003. He was born May 31, 1929, near Bee Branch, a son of W.R. Pearson and Charity Gordon Pearson. Mr. Pearson was a Korean War Navy veteran, receiving medals for Korean Service, United Nations, China Service, Navy Occupation, National Defense, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a diesel engine salesman, a shop foreman for C.C. Jones Trucking in Plumerville, and a member of the Harding Street Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Marlene Morrow Pearson; two sons, Donald Pearson of Center Ridge and Scott Pearson of Gallatin, Tenn; one daughter, Sharon Heffington of Morrilton; three brothers, Reedy Pearson of Dinuba, Calif., Rufus Pearson of Anton, Texas, and Hubert Pearson of Watseka, Ill.; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at Harris Chapel with Mr. Charles Bane and Mr. Larry Bane officiating. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers were Ronald Dale Pearson, Steve Dixon, Erin Heffington, Dex Barclay, Michael Heffington, and James Maxwell.

MORRILTON, ARK--WALTER EARL OGDEN, 99, of Morrilton died Tuesday, March 18, 2003. Born Nov. 2, 1903, in Newport, he was a son of Jessie Sular and Edith (Kirchner) Ogden. He was also widower of Ola Mae Ogden. He was a farmer and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include three sons, Willard R. Ogden of Glendale, Ariz.; Leonard “Jack” Ogden of Pine Bluff, and Rayburn “Bud” Ogden of Union City, Calif.; one daughter, Johnnie Mourot of Plumerville; one brother, James Ogden of Morrilton; one sister, Pearl Green of Morrilton; 22 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Thursday, 2 p.m., at Hale-South Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, the Rev. Don Moore officiated. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Tulsa, OK--EVA GORDON MALLETT SANFORD, of Tulsa, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2008, at the age of 100 years. She was born to Henry and Lillie Gordon on March 11, 1907, in Conway County, AR. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Mountie Mallet; 2nd husband, Ray Sanford; brothers, Odie and Alfred Gordon, 1 sister, Myrl Frost; 1 granddaughter, Karen Oliver. Eva was a longtime member of the Downtown Church of Christ in Morrilton, AR. When she moved to Tulsa, she became a member of Crosstown church and later the Bixby church. She was a staunch advocate of her faith. She talked to people about their souls, whether it was family, friends or even strangers. The church and her family were the center of her life. She was a very hard worker and lived through the Great Depression. She is survived by: 2 daughters, Faye Billingsley and husband, Walter of Tulsa; Ruth Hale and husband, Lewis of Oklahoma City; 5 grand children; 11 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Eva was a wonderful mate, a loving and kind mother, and mother -in-law, loved her grandchildren dearly and worked hard at being impartial. She was a great example and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  --Tulsa World (OK) - January 13, 2008



JOHN QUINCY SKIPPER, aged 54, died Satrday morning about 3:15, at the family home, 300 S. West street, after an illness of several weeks. Mr Skipper had been in declining health for some time, and all that physicians and loved ones could do was of no avail, and death came as a relief to his suffering.
Mr Skipper was born in Lanty, October 23, 1887, and was a lifelong resident of Conway county. With his first wife, who preceeded him in death fourteen years, he came to Morrilton where for many years he was connected with the Singer Sewing Machine Co. He was married in 1923 to Mrs Martha Bradshaw and to this union one child was born.
Mr Skipper was chairman, of the Republican Central Committee, and was the postmaster at Morrilton from 1921 to 1929. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist church, where his funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev E.L. Cole, Sunday afternoon, after which members of the Morrilton Masonic Lodge No. 105, of which he was a member had charge of the services at the McClaren cemetery at Lanty where interment was made.
Surviving him are his wife, seven daughters, five sons and two step sons, Misses Neoma and Winnie, Arthur, Quincy, Bradley, J.Q. Jr, W.M. and Glen of this city. Gordon, of Idabell, Okla, Mrs Don Bostain, Mrs Claud Evans and Mrs Olen Krissell of England; Mrs Marvin Koonce and Mrs Delma Atkinson of Granite City Ill. Three sisters, Mesdames Jim Turner and John Edwrds of Webber Falls Okla and Fate Treece of Jonesboro; two brothers, Jim and Carl Skipper of England. All the children were with him when the end came, except Mrs Atkinson, who was unable to be here on account of illness.
The following served as pall bearers: Alec Deaton, Will Beers, J.E. Brazil, Arthur Wells, Floyd Moses and T.C. Scroggin.  Frank Reid, local undertaker had charge of funeral arrangements.

PLUMERVILLE, ARK--DAVID GORDON STACKS, 65, of Plumerville, died Wednesday, Nov 26, 2008. The son of Wilbur Wade Stacks & Nina Gordon-Stacks, he was born Oct 14, 1943 in Plumerville. Survivors include his wife, Mary Stacks; one son, Thomas Clegg of Rogers; one daughter, Barbara Coble of Plumerville; five sisters: Pat Thompson of Plumerville; Jean Eubanks of Jerusalem, Betty Harper of Conroe Texas, Sylvia Scoles of Rowell, and Sharon Stacks of Plumerviille; and three grandchildren. Graveside services were Monday at the Plumerville Cemetery. Arrangements were by Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home of Morrilton.

MORRILTON, ARK--OLA JORDAN FOREMAN WARD, 89, of Morrilton died Sunday, July 27, 2003. She was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Center Ridge, a daughter of Moses Patrick Jordan and Lou Lane Jordan. Mrs. Ward was retired from Crompton Arkansas Mills, a member of the Morrilton First Free Will Baptist Church, and the widow of John Dewey Ward and Buck Foreman. Survivors include three sons, Al Ward of Atkins, David Ward of Plumerville, and Gene Ward of Morrilton; and four daughters, Hazel Bowling and Johnnie Bost, both of Little Rock, and Wilma Bowling of Ashdown, and Pat Huett of Plumerville; two brothers, Doyle Jordan of Hayti, Mo., and Mozie Jordan of Morrilton; two sisters, Reba Bolton of Conway, and Juanita Bryant of Austin; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harris Chapel with the Rev. Gary Huett and the Rev. Wayne Pavatt officiating. Burial was at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
