HISTORY OF CRAWFORD COUNTY
Crawford County was formed October 18, 1820 and was the largest county in Arkansas at the time. It was originally part of eight counties and the Indian Territory. It is in Western Arkansas.
Van Buren is the county seat.
The Ozark Mountains is located in the northern part of the county with rolling farmland, ridges, mountain and lakes in the southern half.
The county was named for William H. Crawford, United States Secretary of War in 1815.
The 2000 population was 53,247.
