DREW L. CARRAWAY,
64, a partner in
the Washington law firm of Rice, Carpenter and Carraway, died yesterday
at his home in Bethesda. He had suffered from a kidney ailment.
Mr. Carraway was born in Fordyce, Ark. He graduated from
Henderson Unversity in Arkadelphia, Ark., in 1935. He then came to
Washington and worked for the Treasury Department while earning a law
degree from George Washington University by attending classes at night.
He served as a captain with the Army Air Corps in World War II. After
the war, he joined the law firm of Turney and Turney here.
Mr. Carraway helped establish the law firm of Rice, Carpenter and
Carraway about 25 years ago. He specialized in transportation law.
He was a member of the D.C. and Arkansas Bar Associations and was
admitted to practice before the Supreme Court. He belonged to the Motor
Carrier Lawyers Association, the Bethesda United Methodist Church and
the Kenwood Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jewell, of the home; a son, Andrew, of
Burke; a brother, Hal, of Tyler, Tex., and two grandchildren.

T. J. EVERETT DIED AT
OUACHITA TUESDAY--
T. J. Everett, aged 92, the last Confederate soldier in
Dallas county, died Tuesday at the home of his son, J. T. Everett, at
Ouachita.
Mr. Everett moved to Dallas county in 1850, at the age of five
years and lived within a mile of his present home. During the Civil War he
fought in the battle at Jenkins Ferry, and also the battle of Marks Mill
near New Edinburg.
Mr Everett was a fine and familiar character of the
county, and had the love of his entire acquaintance.
He is survived by
five daughters, Mrs. W. L. Patterson of Holly Springs; Mrs. L. V. Dunlap
of Manning; Mrs. Nettie Brazeal of
Ouachita, Mrs. J. J. Carter of
Benton; and Mrs. John Grace of Grady; two sons, J. S. Everett of
Sparkman; and J. T. Everett of
Ouachita; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Gatling
of Holly Springs.
Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 o'clock Tuesday
afternoon at Chapel Hill church near Ouachita, with Rev. C. H. Cayce of
Thornton
assisting Rev. John Harris of Thornton. Burial was in the cemetery
adjoining the church.
Mr. Everett was the grandfather of Mrs. W. A.
Moore and Mrs. L. Z. Mallory of Fordyce.

NOTE: His name was Thomas Jasper Everett/Everitt. He was born on 7 June 1845 in
Coosa County, Alabama, and died 27 April 1937 in Ouachita, Dallas County,
Arkansas. He lived most of his life in Dallas County, Arkansas and was
married there to Permelia Elizabeth Peterson.
NANCY DIANE HAZELWOOD,
58, of Fordyce, Ark., formerly of Southern Illinois, died Thursday, May
15, 2003 at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, Ark.
She was born Jan. 22, 1945 in Jacksonville, Texas, the daughter of
Beebe and Mirian Lawson Jr. She was married to Melvin L. Hazelwood for
36 years.
Nancy was a teacher and a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church in
Fordyce and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
She is survived by her husband, one son Russell Hazelwood of Fordyce;
one daughter and son-in-law, Tracy Green of Maumelle, Ark.; one
brother, Jahn Lawson of Lone Star, Texas; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at St. John's Cemetery near
Dongola, IL.
Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, IL is in charge of the
arrangements.
Cape Girardeau, MO.-- FRANCIS NAYDEAN WALSH, 76, of Cape
Girardeau died
Monday, July 23, 2007 at Heartland Care and Rehab.
She was born March 3, 1931 in Dallas County, AR, daughter of George
Logan and Mamie Ruth Green Walsh.
Walsh had worked at the Sterling Store in Fordyce, AR.
Survivors include two nephews, Jim Rothwell of Arkadelphia, AR, John
Rothwell of Dallas; and a niece, Ruthie Andrus of Plano, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount
Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Visitation will also
be
held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stoney Point
Cemetery in Fordyce.
Sparkman, AR-- RAY DOUGLAS WHITE, 91, Sparkman, died July 5,
1997. He was born November 19, 1905, son of William Joseph Boldin
and Ecker England White. His wife, Alverda Fore White, preceded
him in death. Survivors include three children, Jane Johnson, Don
White and John White; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was interred in the Sparkman Cemetery. Pallbearers were
the foremen of Ray White Lumber Company. --July 7, 1997,
