Arkansas Gazette mentions the execution of a man named Jacob Strickland
found guilty of the murder of George Decon and that he was carried to
the gallows in a state of intoxication in which situation he was not
only allowed to harangue the crown but permitted to take three
additional drinks of grog! What a
disgusting spectacle.

Gazette, that Mr. Conway has died of the wound received in his duel

IZARD--Washington, Dec. 23--The last mail from the West, brings information of the death of Gen. Geo. Izard, Governor of the Territory of Arkansas. He died at his residence at Little Rock, on Saturday evening, the 22d ultimo, after an illness of about a month, which proceeded from an attack of the gout. By this event, the government of the Territory devolves, temporarily upon Robert Crittenden, the Secretary of the Territory; and being upon the spot, he entered immediately on the discharge of the duties of Acting Governor. – Nat.
