Garland County, home to America's First National Park-Hot Springs-1832; one of the largest quartz crystal mine operations in North America; the Ouachita Mountains and National Forest and the Lake Quachita, Lake Catherine and Lake Hamilton State Parks. There are 47 springs along the base of the Hot Springs Mountain.

Garland County, with the county seat at Hot Springs, was formed April 5, 1873 and named for Augustus H. Garland, Governor of Arkansas, United States Senator and Grover Cleveland's Attorney General.

Garland County's 2000 population was 89,657, with Hot Springs having 35,750.
