Hempstead County was named for
Edward Hempstead, a Missouri congressman.
The county seat is located at Hope.
It is known as the Watermelon Capitol. A 195 pound watermelon was grown
here in 1939.
The 2000 population was 10,616.
Birthplace of Pres. Bill Clinton
located at 117 South Hervey, Hope, Arkansas.
In this house Clinton was born on August 19, 1946.
