WELCOME TO IZARD COUNTY ARKANSAS GENEALOGY TRAILS Izard County was formed on October 17, 1825, as the 13th county of the Territory of Arkansas. It was formed from parts of Independence County. It was named for the second Governor of the Territory, George Izard. Melbourne is the county seat. White River forms the southwestern border of the county. The Strawberry River provides floating and Horseshoe Bend is a resort retirement community. Calico Rock is on the National Register of Historic Places with its historic district. The 2000 population was 13,249. Cities
