City, MO--George Martin Bohannan, 82, of Scott City died Wednesday,
Oct. 24, 2007 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO.
He was born Aug. 18, 1925 at Pine Bluff, AR, son of Hillie
Paul and Sophronie Ballard Bohannan. He married Imogene Pearl
Swinney August 26, 1951 at Illmo, MO. She died Oct. 5, 1988.
George was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a conductor 42 years with Cotton Belt Railroad. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II. Survivors include a son, Bill Bohannan of Temple, TX; two daughters, Becky Bohannan and Cindy Bohannan of Scott City; a brother, Paul Bohannan of Merkel, TX; four granddaughters, Becky Walden, Brandy Crumpton, Ashley and Samantha Bohannan; and two great-grandchildren, Cohl and Madison. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Bohannan; a niece, Linda Gasaway; two brothers; and three sisters. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday with Jerry Westbrook officiating. Burial will follow in Lightner Memorial Cemetery in Scott City with full military honors. HAYWOOD CITY, MO - LYDIA HARRINGTON DORSEY, 89, died Jan. 14, 2002, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center. Born Nov. 19, 1912, in Sawnloke (Swan Lake), Ark., daughter of the late Arthur and Sinnie Louis Jacob, she lived in Missouri for more than 60 years. She was a member of New Morning Star Baptist Church in Haywood City where she was church secretary and served on the Mother's Board. Survivors include four daughters and three sons of Milwaukee; several grandchildren, including Kathie Harrington of Haywood City and Barbara Howard of Sikeston, whom she raised; and several great-grandchildren. Visitation is from noon Saturday until service time at 1 p.m. at New Morning Star Baptist Church. The Rev. Alex Sims, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Haywood City Cemetery. New Port Richey, FL--HARRY E. GIBBS, 78, of New Port Richey died Friday at home. A native of Jefferson County, Ark., he moved to this area four years ago from Rex, Ga. He was a retired pipeline station operator for Southern Natural Gas in Riverdale, Ga., an Army veteran of World War II and Methodist. He is survived by his wife, Martha; a stepson, David Franzen of Lakewood, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Gail Ehrhart of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two sisters, Buren Douglas of St. Petersburg and Oleta Kirk of Riverdale; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. FALLS CHURCH, VA–CLARENCE WOODARD “WOODY” GRUBBS, 72, a retired Defense Communications Agency engineer, died of cancer Jan. 31 at Arlington Hospital. Mr. Grubbs, who lived in Falls Church, was born in Jefferson County, Ark. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1937 and served until the end of World War II. In 1963, he moved to this area and began working at the Defense Communications Agency after having worked as an engineer for Philco in Philadelphia. He was an enthusiastic square dancer, golfer and bowler, a past master of Maconware Masonic Lodge in Falls Church, and a member of the Alexandria Scottish Rite, the Annandale Royal Archmasons, Kena Shrine Temple, the Eastern Star and the Elks. His first wife, Marjorie Grubbs, died in 1974. Survivors include his wife, Frances Smith Grubbs of Falls Church, and a son from his first marriage, Richard Grubbs of Gaithersburg --Washington Post, The (DC) - February 3, 1989. COLUMBUS -- BOBBIE HOLTZLANDER, 72, died Friday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle after a stroke. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home of Columbus with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery near Pine Bluff, Ark. She was a member of Hamilton Church of Christ. Mrs. Holtzlander, the wife of Elven Holtzlander, also leaves two sons, Charles Holtzlander of Columbus and Gary Holtzlander of Potts Camp; two sisters, Iva Coram of Madera, Calif., and Marie Lilliker of Chaffee, Mo., and five grandchildren. --Commercial Appeal, The (Memphis, TN) - July 5, 1994 EULESS, TX - MAGGIE LEE HUNT, a retired cook, died Tuesday at her Euless home. She was 80. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Baker Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Hunt was born in Jefferson County, Ark., and had lived in Euless for eight years. She also lived in Flint, Mich., for 13 years. Mrs. Hunt was a former member of First Baptist Church in Arkansas and First Union Baptist Church in Flint, Mich. She was a recent member of The Free House of Worship Church of God in Christ in Fort Worth. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, fishing and spending time with children. She was the widow of Charles Hunt. Survivors: Son, George Bowers Jr. of Flint, Mich.; two daughters, Corene Perkins of Los Angeles and Louvenia Stevenson of Euless; sister, Mae Bell Washington of Detroit; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. --Fort Worth Star-Telegram (TX) - April 19, 1992 SOUTHAVEN, MS--EDITH FLYNN NELSON, 82, of Southaven, court clerk for Jefferson County, Ark., died of heart failure Friday in Southaven. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Pine Bluff, Ark. She was a member of Southcrest Baptist Church in Southaven and Robert F. Spillman Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Nelson, the wife of Hubert C. Nelson, leaves two sons, Leland R. Flynn of Pine Bluff and W. J. Flynn of West Memphis; three stepdaughters, Charlene Hammond of Southaven, Peggy McBroome of McCrory, Ark., and Libby Cartwright of Des Arc, Ark.; two stepsons, James Nelson of McCrory and Doyle Nelson of Southaven; two sisters, Myrtle Jones and Evelyn Ford, both of Hot Springs, Ark., 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. --Commercial Appeal, The (Memphis, TN) - September 7, 1997. PINE BLUFF, ARK--J. W. RAGLAND died in Pine Bluff, Ark., on February 2, 1922, at age eighty-five years. He had exceeded the allotted time of man to prepare for eternity, and these added years were a rare blessing and a benediction to his family and friends. Comrade Ragland was born in Greenville, Meriwether County, Ga., April 26, 1837. He enlisted in the Confederate army at Lagrange, Ga., in 1861, and served through the war with Company K, 13th Georgia Volunteer Regiment. He was at Appomattox at the surrender of General Lee, and had the distinction of being paroled by Gen. John B. Gordon, April 10, 1865. The parole papers are still in the family and greatly prized. Comrade Ragland was the color bearer of his regiment, and no braver, cleaner man ever bore the colors of the Confederacy. He arrived in Pine Bluff, Ark., from Lagrange, Ga., in September, 1884, and since that time had been actively engaged in the cotton business. He was always fair in his dealings, and none in his line enjoyed the confidence of the trade and of the farmer more than he. His family and many warm personal friends mourn his loss. He was a good man and has gone to that beautiful land of rest reserved for the just. –THE CONFEDERATE VETERAN, Vol 30, 1922. LARGO, FL–MAUDE REID, 88, of Greenville, S.C., and formerly of Largo, died Saturday (April 7, 1990) at Greenville Memorial Hospital. She was born in Jefferson County, Ark., and moved here in 1966 before moving to Greenville in 1986. She was a schoolteacher and a member of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, Largo. She was also a member of John Elliot Chapter of Colonial Dames XVII and Century National Society of Magna Charta Dames, Little Rock, Ark. Survivors include an aunt and several cousins. Mackey Mortuary, Greenville. --St. Petersburg Times (FL) - April 10, 1990 Matthews, MO.--John "Kim" Stucker, 54, of Pine Bluff, Ark., formerly of Matthews, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 at Jefferson Memorial Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was born Sept 30, 1953 in Sikeston, Mo., son of Leland and Margie Miller Stucker. He was a truck driver. Survivors include five sons, John Stucker, Jr. of Alaska, Stan Stucker of Bonne Terre, Mo, Thomas and Joshua Stucker of Poplar Bluff, Mo., T. J. Stucker of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; his father of Norborne, Mo.; two sisters, Sharon Bodenstein of Cape Girardeau, Sandra Rodecap of Port Isabel, Tx.; a brother, Jeff Stucker of Kansas City, Mo.; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister. There is no visitation. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie, Mo. is in charge of arrangements. WHITE HALL, ARK – MARGARET LUCILLE SLOAN TERRY, age 74, of White Hall died Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Baptist Health in Little Rock. She was born July 10, 1931, in England, Ark., to the late John Finnie and Rosa Jane Crabtree Sloan. She was a 1950 graduate of England High School. She was a homemaker and business partner with her husband, John H. Terry for over 54 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church White Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Vernon Sloan and Paul Sloan. She is survived by her husband, John H. Terry, whom she married July 20, 1951; two sons, Mike Terry and his wife, Vickie of Hot Springs, Ark., and Greg Terry and his wife, Sharon of White Hall; three daughters, Janet Jones and her husband, Hal of Little Rock, Ark., Yvonne Wingard and her husband, Ricky of White Hall, and Kathie Horn and her husband, George of White Hall; brother, Kenneth Sloan and his wife, Sherri of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sisters, Jean Bennett and her husband, Neal of White Hall and Linda Wingard and her husband Robert of Sulphur Springs Community; one half sister, Ruth Sloan; 10 grandchildren, LaShay Terry, Spencer Terry, Wes and Amanda Te rry, Megan Terry, Alisha and Brian Todd, Kelly Wingard, Terry Wingard, Candace and John Robinson, Brittny Horn, and Michael Horn; two great-grandchildren, Parker DeWayne Todd and Paige Elizabeth Davies. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006, in the chapel of Cranford Funeral Home of White Hall with the Rev. Bob Harper officiating. Burial will be in Mulberry Cemetery in England, Ark. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. PINE BLUFF, ARK–JOHN L. WILSON, 71, of Pine Bluff, formerly of Coldwater, retired captain with the Pine Bluff Police Department and deputy with the Jefferson County (Ark.) Sheriff's Department, died Sunday at his home after a long illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Home in Pine Bluff with burial in Cypress Memorial Gardens there. A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, he was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Fraternal Order of Police and Retir ed Police Officers Association, and was charter president and founder of Wilson Hunting Club. Mr. Wilson, the husband of Eleanor Marie Blanche Wilson, also leaves two daughters, Mary Brown and Judy W. Holland, both of Pine Bluff; a son, Johnny L.
