Oran, MO--HAZEL MAE ANTHONY, 92, of Oran died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at the Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Mo.  She was born Oct. 6, 1915, at Lamar, Ark., daughter of Fred and Alberta Bradley Harmon.  She married Bernard "B. W." Anthony on July 19, 1935, and he preceded her in death April 12, 1993, after 58 years of marriage.  They moved to Southeast Missouri in December 1936.
Anthony was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Oran.
Survivors include three sons, William Lee Anthony of Selma, Ala., Kenneth Gene Anthony of Grantville, Kan., and Fredie Wayne Anthony of Derby, Kan.; one daughter, Betty Perry of Kinmundy, Ill.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Imogene Uptain of Concord, Calif., and Josephine Tate of Oran; two brothers, Fred Harmon of Portageville, Mo. and Bob Harmon of Phoenix, Ariz.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
The funeral was Tuesday, Feb. 12, at First Baptist Church in Oran, with the Rev. Ed Carter officiating.  Burial was in Friend Cemetery at Oran.


Vanduser, MO--Services for VELMA MAE BOLEY will be held at Morley Church of Christ Tuesday at 11 a.m. with minister Woodrow Phillips officiating.  Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley.
Friends may call at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel at Oran after 3 p.m. today.
Boley, 66 years old, of Vanduser, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1987 at Chaffee General Hospital.  She was born in Lamar, Ark., on April 19, 1921, daughter of Ernest and Jettie Crotts Tanner.  She was a member of the Church of Christ Church at Morley.
She married Ross Boley on June 12, 1938.  He survives.
Other survivors include her mother of Vanduser; one son, James Boley of Sikeston; one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Linda) Taylor of Morley; three brothers, Gene Tanner of Sikeston, Bobby Tanner of Caruthersville, MO and Burl Tanner of Cape Girardeau, MO; and five grand-children.  --Southeast Missourian, Dec 28, 1987 from microfilm at Cape Public Library.

MOREHOUSE, MO--OPAL BERNICE BRASHEARS, 79, of Morehouse died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008 at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO.  She was born Sept. 5, 1929 in Lamar, Ark., daughter of Bradley and Anna Grace Carter.  She and Billy Lee Brashears were married Dec. 26, 1954.  He died June 30, 1986.
Survivors include two sons, Mike and Tim Brashears of Morehouse; a daughter, Sheila Burton of Chaffee, MO; four brothers, Ernest Carter of Telephone, Texas, Delmar Carter of Vanduser, MO; Doyle Carter of Washington State, Wayne Carter of Las Vegas; two sisters, Eunice Hudnell of Blackstone, VA; Wanda Higdon of Morehouse; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a brother.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, MO.  The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jimmy Vent officiating.  Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens at Morley, MO.


Morley, MO.--HOLLIE CROTTS, 93, of Morley died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 at Bertrand Retirement Home in Bertrand, MO. She was born June 24, 1913 in Lamar, AR, daughter of James Robert and Harriet Hull Terry. She and W. H. Crotts were married Nov. 2, 1930. He died July 4, 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Laverne Edwards of Scott City, MO; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, a daughter, a brother and three sisters. Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran, MO, from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Morley Cemetery in Morley, with the Rev. Robert Poe officiating.

SIKESTON, MO - HEARTSILL DANIEL, 86, died Nov. 30, 2001, at his home.
Born Oct. 11, 1915, in Lamar, Ark., son of the late Jess and Mable Holman Daniel, he attended the Community of Christ Church and was a retired self-employed farmer and carpenter.
On Nov. 2, 1939, in Dexter, he married Helen Mae Ziegenhorn who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Donna Hasty of Sikeston; three sisters, Fay Bryant of Morehouse, Ramona Worley of Columbia and Nadene Turner of New Madrid; one granddaughter, Deanna Hasty of Sikeston; and one great-grandson, Jess Hasty of Sikeston.
One brother, Mathie Daniel, preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ponder Funeral Home where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday. Matt Butrum, Visiting Nurse Association chaplain, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens at Morley.
Pallbearers will be: Mike Ziegenhorn, David Ziegenhorn, Dennis Ziegenhorn, Harry Pratt, Don Pratt and Charlie Pratt.

Oklahoma City, OK--LEWIS MONROE JOHNSON, 84, of Oklahoma City, passed away Saturday, March 22, 1997. Lewis was born to Annie Elizabeth and Charles Jefferson Johnson in Johnson County, Ar. on Oct. 22, 1912. He was a resident of Britton, Ok. for many years. He served in the Army during WWII and was retired from the FAA. Lewis was preceded in death by a son, David Ray; his first wife and mother of his children, Alice Alverna, and second wife, Marjorie Ann; a sister, Elma Daniels; and 4 grandchildren. Lewis is survived by 10 children, Stephen Johnson of Claremore, William Dale Johnson and Benjamin Woodford Johnson of Slidell, La, Michael Neal Johnson, Kathleen Ann Lankford Richard Leon Johnson, Ellen Louise Bales, Betty Dawn Lindley, Donnie Paul Johnson & Charles Lewis Johnson, all of OKC; also brothers, Norman Johnson of Broken Arrow, Charles J. Johnson, Jr. of Cache, Darren Johnson, Ozark, Ar; a sister, May Evelyn Harris of Clarksville; 34 grandchildren & 42 great grandchildren. Lewis had a strong ministry in the Britton Christian Church, including the House of Hope, Study Buddies, Promise Keepers, etc. He had supported the Cumberland College, Ky. Lewis was the recipient of the 5 Who Care Award in 1983 for his work with the Boy Scouts of America specializing in handicapped scouting. He was instrumental in the building of a handicapped campground at Camp Kickapoo in OKC. Among Lewis' many awards in scouting were the Order of the Arrow, the Silver Beaver Award and the Wood School Award. Oran, MO.--LORENE PATTERSON, 87, of Oran died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Jackson Manor in Jackson, MO.  She was born June 5, 1920 in Lamar, AR, daughter of William King and Myrtle Richards Russell.  She and Lee Patterson were married Aug 31, 1940.  He died March 11, 1977.  Patterson was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Miami, FL.  Survivors include a son, Wayne Patterson of Oran; three daughters, Dorothy Lee Black of Jackson, MO, Linda Pelton of Medina, OH, Deborah Kessler of Cookeville, TN; two brothers, O. F. "Bob" Russell of Dexter, MO, Bill Russell of Trout Dale, VA; a sister, Frances McIver of Cape Girardeau, MO; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and seven step-greatgrandchildren.  Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Saturday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.  The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday (July 14, 2007) at the chapel with the Rev. Ed Carter officiating.  Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens at Morley, MO.

 

KUNA, IDAHO--KUNA MATRON PASSES AWAY--Funeral services for VICY JANE RITCHIE, 82, who died early Tuesday (1939) at the home of her son Zed Ritchie, were held at the Baptist Church in Kuna at 2:30, Wednesday afternoon.
The Robinson Mortuary in Meridian had charge of the services. Mrs Vicy Jane Ritchie was born in 1856 in Clarksville, Arkansas. At the age of 19 she was converted and baptized into the fellowship of Center Point Baptist Church.  She was married to Miles Ritchie to which union was born 6 sons and three daughters, four of whom have passed away.
In 1917 Vicy Ritchie was widowed and has since lived with her youngest son Zed Ritchie. She was called to her eternal home from her temporary residence at Kuna, Idaho, at the age of 82 years old. She is survived by her brother Jack Cardon of Pryor, Oklahoma, six children, 25 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, as well as many loving friends.
The pallbearers were Ermil Weatherby, William Weatherby, Ivan Harris, Lloyd Ritchie and Marvin Ritchie.

ZED RITCHIEIDAHO STATESMAN, BOISE, OCTOBER 12th, 1980--Kuna, ID--Services for Zed Ritchie, 84, Kuna, who died Friday in a Boise Nursing home, will be conducted at 2:00 pm.Tuesday in Robinson Jerread Chapel of the Chimes, Meridian by the Rev William Higgins of Kuna First Baptist Church, interment will follow in Kuna Cemetery. He was born October 14th, 1917 in Friley, Arkansas. He served in the Army in World War I.  In 1935, he moved to Kuna, where he farmed until he retired in 1960.  He was a member of the Kuna First Baptist Church and World War I Veterans Barracks No 0459, Nampa.
Survivors include his wife Alice of Kuna, three sons, Lloyd Ritchie of Boise, James H Ritchie of Eden, Idaho, William E Ritchie of Rollinsville, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs Bill ( Thelma) Mulvania of Boise and Mrs Cecil ( Betty) Arnold of Kuna, 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and a grandson.  Memorials may be made to Kuna, First Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Dean, David, James, Kenneth, Joe, Daniel and Martin Ritchie, Randy , Larry, Rick Arnold and Ceasar Quijano.  --Contributed by Susan Fahnstrom.

SPRINGFIELD, MO - ELMER DEAN RUSSELL, SR., 72, formerly of Sikeston, MO, died Nov. 1, 2001, at his home.
Born March 15, 1929, in Clarksville, Ark., son of the late John and Nellie Dunn Russell, he was a salesman before retiring in 1991 and owned and operated the Buck Stove Store in Springfield. A member of the Second Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge 310 AF&AM in Sikeston, he was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
His wife, Connie Wyatt Russell, survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Blenda Burton of Bellbrook, Ohio; two sons, Elmer Dean Russell Jr. of rural Buffalo, MO and John Scott Russell of Springfield; two brothers, Boyd Russell of San Antonio, Texas, and Bob Russell of Sun City, Ariz.; two sisters, Pauline Compton of Arthur, Ill., and Imogene Lane of Double Springs, Ala.; and six grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Services were conducted Monday at Green Lawn Funeral Home North in Springfield with the Rev. Van Segars officiating.
Burial followed in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Springfield.

BLOOMFIELD, MO - ALMETA SIDES, 63, died Oct. 25, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born May 12, 1938, in Clarksville, Ark., daughter of Marie Dempsy Dowdy of Dexter and the late Jack Dowdy, she had lived in Bloomfield the past five years and was a homemaker. In 1971, she married Leon Sides who survives.
Other survivors include: one son, Billy J. Mitchell of Dexter; four daughters, Norma Lawhorn of Illinois, Marilyn Maronies of California, and LaVeta Byrd and Rita Clawson of Dexter; two brothers, Richard Dowdy of Dexter and Larry Dowdy of Tennessee; four sisters, Ivy Horn and Lovena Dowdy of Bloomfield, Nancy Pullum of Dexter and Louise Oliver of Michigan; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Josephine Williamson; four brothers, Bill Spence, Edward Dowdy, Jimmy Dowdy and John Dowdy; and one sister, Alice Faye Dowdy.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Essex Cemetery in Essex with the Rev. Walter Spencer of Campbell officiating.
Burial followed in the Essex cemetery with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Oran, MO.--LENA AMY UPTAIN, 85, of East Moline, IL, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at Rosewood Care Center of Moline Inc. She was born March 12, 1921 in Lamar, Johnson County, AR, daughter of Alvin Eric and Ann Lee Goforth Wilkins. She and Newell Uptain were married Nov. 13, 1938. He died May 24, 1993.
Uptain moved from Oran to East Moline in 1996. She was a school cook three years. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Coal Valley, IL. Survivors include nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Friends may call from noon to service time Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Ed Carter officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley, MO.
