JOHN
N. BERRY, the oldest person in Lawrence County celebrated his 100th
birthday Sunday (cMay 11, 1958). A birthday dinner in his honor
was held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Godwin, with whom he
resides. (The Times Dispatch, May 1958)
MARY ELIZABETH
CULVER, 100, of Walnut Ridge, died April 8, 2007, at
Lawrence Hall Nursing. Born Dec. 13, 1906, in Powhatan,
she was the daughter of John and Lucinda Richey Beary.
She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove Free Will
Baptist Church in Eaton. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Perry Douglas Culver, on Nov. 13, 1972, whom she
married Oct. 24, 1924, in Powhatan. Survivors include a
son, Donald Culver, Walnut Ridge; two daughters, Juanita
Phillips, Black Rock, and Oleva Jackson, Blytheville;
nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several
great-great-grandchildren. Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p.m.
in Higginbotham Chapel with Bro. Harold Russell
officiating. Burial was in Old Lebanon Cemetery, near
Eaton, under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral

VIDA GOFF JONES,
100, of Smithville, died Dec. 30, 2006, at Lawrence
Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 28, 1906, in Nelsonville,
she was the daughter of Joe and Eliza Wells Goff. She was
a homemaker and attended the Smithville Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Jones, on
June 21, 1994, whom she married Jan. 25, 1931, at
Annieville; an infant son, Billy Joe Goff; three
brothers, Webster Goff, Sam Goff and Luther Goff; and a
sister, Gladys Helms. Survivors include a brother, James
Walker Goff, Walnut Ridge; two nieces, Jan Moss,
Matthews, Mo., and Gay Lynn Williams, Jonesboro; and five
nephews, Charles Goff and Rickey Goff, both of
Smithville, Gary Goff, Walnut Ridge; Frank Alter,
California, and Everett Jones, Greeley, Colo. Funeral is
Thursday at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church in
Smithville with Bros. Ron Kitchens and Jerry Clements
officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery at
Nelsonville under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral
Service. Pallbearers will be Jerry Ray Foley, Clent
Burrow, Keith Goff, Harold Foley, Bill Williams and Gary
Goff.
