LAWRENCE, KS–GARNER R. BAILEY--Services for Garner Ray Bailey, 72, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rumsey Funeral Home, Lawrence, with the Revs. Mike Proctor and Duane Rice officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Bailey died Thursday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born March 10, 1917, in Star City, Ark.
Mr. Bailey worked at Stokely Van Camp in Lawrence from 1953 until he retired in 1981. He previously had served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Cass, Ark., and worked in Ozark, Ark., several years before he moved to Lawrence. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Bailey was a member of the Assembly of God in Eudora.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Mason, Eudora, and Wilma Ray, Lawrence; a son, Gene Bailey, Lawrence; his mother, Ruth Marble, Star City, Ark.; a brother, Floyd Bailey, Star City, Ark.; two half-sisters, Juanita St. John and Mattie Ruth Rodgers, both of Star City, Ark.; two half-brothers, Ralph Postel and Billy Postel, both of Star City, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Rumsey Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

Flint, MI--BARBER, Henry Charles "Speedy" - Age 74, died Friday, February 15, 2002 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11:30AM Friday at Collins Memorial, 4305 Clio Rd., Assistant Pastor Bobbie Price officiating, Pastor Dale Lewis. Family Hour at 11AM. Visitation Thursday Noon-7PM at the funeral home. Burial in River Rest Cemetery. Henry Charles Barber was born June 10, 1927 in Lincoln County, AR, the son of Ruthie Mae (McGill) Barber and Tom Barber. Henry retired from Fisher Body Division in Grand Blanc, MI in 1982. He was an active outdoor sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed building and wood working around the house. Henry leaves for those who remember him best; one son, Thomas G. Barber of Flint, MI; loving companion of 31 years, Patricia A. Yager, daughter, Ann Marie Burrell (John) Yager of Flint, MI; 2 granddaughters, Dominique Demetria Barber of Flint, MI and Kamilya Sade' Barber of Nashville, TN, Pinkie Pope; very close neighbors of 27 years, Grace Thomas, Demtrius Thomas and Sue George, all of Flint, MI; 2 sisters, Georgia Nunn of Flint, MI and Hortense (Marion) Goines of Kansas City, MO; special nephew, "Joe" Jonathan Webb and Ruby Lee Bryant, both of Flint; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews and cousins, along with a host of other loved ones. --Flint Journal, The (MI) - February 20, 2002.



FORT WORTH, TX - ORBY EDWARD “BUDDY” CARRINGTON, 69, a furniture company upholsterer, died Tuesday at home.
Graveside service: 3:30 p.m. Friday in Moore Memorial Gardens.
Orby Edward "Buddy" Carrington was born April 27, 1926, in Star City, Ark. He was a member of the Masons, Polytechnic Lodge No. 925 in Fort Worth. He served in the Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ridgley E. Carrington, in 1992.
Survivors: Son, Kevin Carrington and wife, Raundra, of Burleson; two brothers, Roy Carrington of Coosbay, Ore., and Haywood Carrington of Star City, Ark.; eight sisters, Mrs. E.C. Stillings of Fort Worth, Mrs. Reva Pounders of Los Lumas, N.M., Mrs. Billie Arledge, Mrs. Ordell Parker and Mrs. Mattielene Russ, all of Pine Bluff, Ark., Mrs. Coleta William of Magnolia, Ark., Mrs. Lois Collins of Star City, Ark., and Mrs. Lena Kellog of Coosbay, Ore.; two grandchildren, Thomas Carrington of Midland and Easton Carrington of Burleson; close friend, Billie E. Meritt of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

St. Louis, MO--Corp. L. R. COLLINS, 26, of Star City, Ark., and formerly of Troy, died Saturday (Dec. 9, 1995) of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Nashville, Tenn.
He was stationed with the U.S. Army at Fort Campbell, Ky. His military record includes tours in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Southwest Asia. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Palmyra, Ark., and the Troy Christian Church in Troy.
Funeral services were held Friday in Arkansas and Saturday at the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home in Troy. Burial was at the Troy City Cemetery.
Among survivors are his mother and stepfather, Sherry and Peter Crough of Lawton, Okla.; two sisters, Myria Dale Blanchard Liddle of Rush City, Minn., and Lacy Dawn Collins of Warrenton; one brother, Shawn L. Collins of North Carolina; two grandmothers, Catherine Collins of Troy, and Beverly Jane White of Star City, Ark.; and a great-grandmother, Donna Ringo of Gould, Ark.

KANSAS CITY, MO-- HARVIE L. CUBIE, 80, central Kansas City, died Aug. 20, 1993, at Truman Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lawrence A. Jones Linwood Chapel; burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.
Mr. Cubie was born in Lincoln County, Ark., and lived in Pine Bluff, Ark., before moving to this area 19 years ago. He was a spray painter for the Cubie Auto Body Shop, retiring in 1985. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Elnora Cubie of the home; three sons, Willie Lee Cubie and Willie James Cubie of Kansas City and Restee Cubie, Dallas; seven daughters, Elizabeth Cubie, Cora Jackson, Lola Rainey and Rennette Cubie of Kansas City and Ruby Coleman, Gennette (illegible) and Bobbie Tobis of Pine Bluff; 34 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.   --Kansas City Star, The (MO) - August 26, 1993.



STAR CITY, Ark. - GLADYS MONNETTE GIBBS, 90, a homemaker and former Fort Worth resident, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at a Star City, Ark. nursing home.
Graveside service: 2 p.m. Monday in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Gladys Monnette Gibbs was born Aug. 16, 1907, in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Gibbs had been a resident of Fort Worth more than 70 years and was a member of Lake Worth Methodist Church and Lioness Club.
Survivors: Sons, James Lee Gibbs and Bobby Gibbs, both of Fort Worth and John Gibbs of Seattle; daughters, Helen Womack of Abilene, Betty Crawford of Mount Pleasant and Wanda Miller of Rison, Ark.; sister, Grace Hitt of Naples, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Jones was born in Lincoln County, Ark., and moved to this area in 1958. He formerly worked for the Kansas City Water and Pollution Control Department. Survivors include his wife, Eula Mae Jones of the home; two sons, Burkie Jones and Edward Jones of Kansas City; six daughters, Clarencetta Jones, Helen Jones, Bonniedale Jones, Tinette Jones and LaTasha Jones of Kansas City and Toni Marie Sims, Kansas City, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Pat Roan, Independence; his parents, Clarence E. RIVERVIEW, FL--DOROTHY J. MILLER, 72, of Riverview died Sunday at Columbia Brandon Regional Medical Center.  A native of Lincoln County, Ark., she moved to the area from Arizona in 1964. She was a registered nurse for University of Tampa Health Center and member of Riverview United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Dale R.; two sons, Mark G. of Riverview and Michael D. of San Antonio; four brothers, William McRae of Star City, Ark., Bruce McRae of Monticello, Ark., Jack McRae of Salinas, Calif., and Thomas McRae of Abilene, Texas; a sister, Katherine Edwards of Star City, Ark.; and a grandchild.

Harvey, LA--OUIDA WARD PAYNE, passed away on November 26, 2006 at her Harvey, LA residence. She was 85. She was born in Lincoln County, AR and was raised in Jefferson County. She is a 1940 graduate from Watson Chapel Senior High School in Pine Bluff, AR. Mrs. Payne worked in Conway and Little Rock, AR, for many years in Burbank, CA and in Jefferson Parish, LA where she retired in 1986 from O.N.I. She moved to Oxnard, CA and returned to Harvey in 1990.
Preceded in death by her husband, Jack Payne; daughter, Mary Evelyn Brown Tyson; parents, John H. Ward and Missie B. Ward and her nephew, J. M. Ward. Survived by her brothers, John H. Ward, Jr. of Harvey, LA and Capt. J. D. Ward, U.S.N. (Ret.) of Slidell, LA; grandson, GYSGT Albert M. Tyson, U.S.M.C. (Ret.) of Fredericksburg, VA; granddaughter, Ouida Diann Tyson Wright, of Honolulu, HI; great-grandchildren, Michelle White, Melissa Tyson Kingsley, Albert Merle Tyson, Jr., (A.J.), James Wright, Jessica Wright, Hannah Wright and Benjamin Wright; niece, Susan Ward Allen of Slidell, LA; great nephew, Steven G. KOSCIUSKO - W. C. 'CLIFF' TINSLEY, 88, retired after 35 years as a licensed embalmer and funeral director at Jordan Funeral Home, died of pneumonia Wednesday at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Jordan Funeral Home with burial in Parkway Cemetery. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Kosciusko. He graduated from Gupton-Jones School of Embalming in Nashville and became a licensed embalmer in 1939. He was a Navy warrant officer during World War II and served as a justice of the peace in Lincoln County, Ark. Mr. Moore, the widower of Ether Bell Moore, leaves a daughter, Camille Watkins of Kosciusko, and two grandchildren.  --Commercial Appeal, The (Memphis, TN) - December 11, 1997



REDDING, CA -- P.L. WELLS, 74, of Redding died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at his residence. No services will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be at the Redding Cemetery.
Born July 3, 1923, in Lincoln County, Ark., he moved to Shasta County in 1946 from Sheridan. He was a cut-off man for Dee Lumber Co. in Redding, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Redding.
Survivors include wife Norma; son Paul of Redding; brother James of Sheridan; and three grandchildren.
