M. BUCKINGHAM, Retired Supermarket Head Cashier, 80, of Route 123 died
Friday at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Brunswick. She was born
in Ouachita County, Ark., and attended schools in Alabama and Texas.
On July 11, 1956 she married Dan P. Buckingham Jr. in Forest
County, Miss. From 1959 to 1966 Mrs. Buckingham was head
cashier at Stop and Shop in Hanover, Mass. She was a worthy
matron of Hawthorne Chapter, OES, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles
and watching birds in her back yard.
Surviving, besides her husband, are several nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. Burial will be in the Maine Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. --Portland Press Herald (ME)--March 23, 1996. ![]() Melbourne, FL--RETIRED ELECTRICAL ENGINEER CHARLES COMPTON DIES--Retired electrical engineer, Charles G. Compton, 79, died Monday, August 16, 1999 at National Health Care Center on Merritt Island. Mr. Compton was born in Ouachita County, Ark. He received his engineering degree from Purdue University. Mr. Compton enlisted in the Merchant Marines in 1941 and served his full commission. A former employee of the 3M Company, he was the co-founder of Hutchinson Technology in Minnesota. He held several patents which are filed with the United States Patent Office. He came to Brevard County in 1989 from Blowing Rock, N.C. Mr. Compton was a longtime member and former president of the American Relay Radio League. "He enjoyed being a ham operator," said his wife, Mary Compton of Melbourne. "He would often encourage young people to get involved with radio operations. He also enjoyed anything that had to do with electrical matter." Other survivors include his daughters, Joyce Tigner of New Jersey and Cheryl Parkins of Canada, and three grandchildren. No calling hours are scheduled. Services were already held. 90, central Kansas City, died April 22, 1992, at Trinity Lutheran
Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Progressive
Baptist Church; burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. Friends may call from
9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Mr. McCree was born in Ouachita
County, Ark., and lived in Kansas City most of his life. He was a
machinist at Armco Inc., retiring in 1957. He was a deacon at the
church and a member of its Widows Association Council and laymen's
auxiliary. Survivors include his wife, Clemie McCree, and a stepson,
Lawrence Mitchell, both of the home; a stepdaughter, Lowynta Chambers,
Jefferson City; and a grandson.
--Kansas City Star, The (MO) - May 1, 1992 ![]() FORT WORTH, TX-- A. PRESTON PURIFOY, 81, a retired teacher, died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at home. Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth. Arthur Preston Purifoy was born June 25, 1917, in Ouachita County, Ark. He was the oldest of five children born to Arthur Paul Purifoy and Pearl Ethyl Patterson Purifoy. He married his wife, Anna Beatryce Hale, on Dec. 31, 1949. Mrs. Purifoy, his wife of 47 years, preceded him in death in 1996. Mr. Purifoy served in the Army Air Forces during World War II in North Africa and Europe. He taught math in the Fort Worth Independent School District for his entire teaching career. He taught at Wedgwood Middle School for his final two decades until he retired at age 65. He continued to be active with his rental properties after retirement. He was a longtime member of North Fort Worth Baptist Church, where he was active in ministry to the deaf, along with his wife. He served as charter president of the Tarrant County Services for the hearing impaired from 1969 to 1970. He was recently recognized as a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 723 and was also involved with Eastern Star Lodge 498. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Survivors: His son, David P. Purifoy and his wife, Joy, of Fort Worth; daughters, Linda C. Purifoy and her husband, Larry Mosig, of Fort Worth, Rose A. Byrum of Richland, Wash., and Nancy K. Phillips and her husband, David Zalaznik of Dallas; brothers, Boyd Purifoy and his wife, Francis, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Glenn Purifoy of Bryant, Ark.; sisters, Christine Donnelly of Cabin John, Md., and Rubye Burroughs and her husband, Louis "Sonny," of Benton, Ark.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nieces; and five nephews. She was 85.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland. Burial will be in Eastland City Cemetery. Mrs. Whitley was born in Ouachita County, Ark., and had lived in Eastland since 1926. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Eastland, where she worked in the nursery. She was a 60-year member and past worthy matron of the Eastland chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Whitley was a member of the Eastland Senior Citizens. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and children. Her husband, Jesse E. Richardson, died in 1987. Survivors: Daughter, Frances Hall of Eastland; brother, the Rev. D.F.
