MONTECA, Calif. - HAZEL GRANT BEMBRY, 72, died Nov. 21, 2001, while visiting her children in Portageville, Mo.
Born Nov. 4, 1929, in Tyronza, Ark., daughter of the late Sterling and Sarah Grant, she had graduated from cosmetology school and was a hair stylist before working for Libbey Owens Ford, from where she retired.
Survivors include: four daughters and sons-in-law, Regina Grant and Tom Jennings of Portageville, Denise Bembry of Toledo, Ohio, Ingrid Bembry of Los Angeles and Carla and Mark Ambrose of Sacramento; six sons and daughters-in-law, Reginald and Mary Grant of Portageville, Kevin Bembry of Toledo, Craig and Bonita Bembry of Portage, Ohio, Carlton Bembry of Los Angeles and Darryl Bembry of Toledo; five sisters, Mattie Long, Pearl Watson, Lorraine Call, Ethel Lee and Pernel Shoecraft of Toledo; two brothers, Leroy Grant of Toledo and Willie T. Grant of Birmingham, Ala.; and 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
One son, Omar Sheldon Bembry, preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at the Word of Victory Church in Portageville with the Rev. Reginald Grant officiating.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.

TRUMANN -- D. A. BRATTON SR., 50, of Trumann died Tuesday, Dec. 31, (2002) at his residence.
Born in Black Oak, he was a farm worker and of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include two sons, D.A. Bratton Jr. and Hilton Thomas Bratton, both of Trumann; one daughter, Patricia Milzal of Jonesboro; seven sisters, Nancy Wilson, Ellen Morlock, Dorothy Woods, Betty Butler and Ruby Ward, all of Trumann, Julie Russell of Twist and Hazel Ross of Malvern; two brothers, Tommy Bratton of Palestine and Clay Bratton of Marked Tree; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holly Springs Cemetery at Harrisburg, with Willie Clem officiating. Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola is in charge of arrangements.
Family members will be pallbearers.
Visitation will be at the residence in Trumann from 4 p.m. today until the time of services Saturday.

MEMPHIS, TN--MRS. GOLDIE SCROGGINS BRITTAIN, 81, of Memphis, formerly of Poinsett County, Ark. died Wednesday at Methodist Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hutchinson (Ark.) Church of Christ with burial in the church cemetery.
Jackson's Harrisburg (Ark.) Funeral Home has charge.
Mrs. Brittain leaves three daughters, Mrs. Josephine James of Memphis, Mrs. Syble James of Ocala, Fla., and Mrs. Sylvin Phillips of Cherry Valley, Ark.; three sons, Ted Scroggins and Kerry Glenn Scroggins, both of West Memphis, and Thomas Conever Scroggins of Marion, Ark.; four sisters, Mrs. Lottie Candler of Hutchinson, Mrs. Annie Cook of California, Mrs. Pauline Caldwell of Amagon, Ark., and Mrs. Edmonia Horest of Salado, Ark.; two brothers, Arthur Elumbaugh and W. A. Elumbaugh, both of Hutchinson, 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

PAYNEWAY, AR -- Funeral services for J.C. CLAYTON, 77, of Payneway who died Tuesday, Dec. 30, (2003) at St. Bernard's Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. today at First United Pentecostal Church of Harrisburg.
    The Revs. David Mitchell and Glenn Cox will officiate, and burial will follow in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home.
    Born at Bassett, he was a farmer and a member of First United Pentecostal Church at Harrisburg. He was an Army veteran who served in World War II.
    Survivors include his wife, Leta McGlothlin Clayton of the home; three sons, James Lee Clayton of Hot Springs, Jimmy Lee Clayton of Harrisburg and Johnny Lee Clayton of Trumann; two daughters, Peggy Sue Pierce and Janice Stem, both of Jonesboro; three sisters, Jessie Faye Nienaber, Daisy Cannon and Pauline Kimberlin, all of Memphis; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. and Dosie Simpson Clayton, four brothers and one sister.
    Active pallbearers will be Larry Wray, Eddie Wray, Jim Hillis, Ray Sharp, Stephen Cox and Bill Carter.  Floyd Hall will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Cape Girardeau, MO.--DR. ROBERT LEE COX, SR, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, September 28, 2007 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.  
He was was born October 26, 1930 in Harrisburg, Ark., son of Joseph William and Winifred Howard Cox.  He and Betty L. Scott were married June 3, 1956 in Mound City, Kan.
Cox was a graduate of Little Rock, Ark., High School.  He received a bachelor of science degree and a master's degree in education from Kansas State College in Pittsburg, and a doctorate of education degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
He served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953, and was an x-ray technician in a hospital during the Korean conflict.
Cox has lived in Cape Girardeau since 1964, moving from Chanute, Kan.  He came to Southeast Missouri State University to develop and organize a production and printing program.  He was professor of the Industrial Technology Department 27 years, served as department chairman six years, retiring in 1991.
He previously taught at Altamont, Kan. High School and Chanute High School and Junior College.
Cox was a member of Illmo Baptist Church in Scott City, MO and was past minister of music at Illmo Baptist and Red Star Baptist in Cape Girardeau. He was active in the Charleston Baptist Association, was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, directed the Baptist Student Union Choir on the Southeast campus from 1970 to 1985.  (All former BSU Choir members are invited to gather and sing at the funeral service.)  
He was a member of several professional organizations, serving as national president of Iota Lambda Sigma and International Graphic Arts Educational Association.
Cox served on the executive board of the Missouri Baptist Convention and the Word and Way Committee.
Survivors include his wife, Betty L. Cox of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Robert L. Jr and Janie Cox of Jackson, MO, Scott D. Cox of Columbia, MO; daughter-in-law, Debbie Cox of Scott City; five grandchildren, Jordan Cox, Jason Cox, Sarah Pruden, Neil Sanders, Lisa Sanford; four great-grandchildren, Lance Pruden, Trent Pruden, Joseph Sanders and Megan Sanders.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles W. Cox, and a brother, Dick Cox.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.  The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007 at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bob Herring and Jack Bishop officiating.  Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park, with full military rites by Missouri Honor Team.



OLIVE BRANCH, MS--FREEDA M. KING, 68, of Olive Branch, former teacher for Poinsett County (Ark.) school system, died of heart failure Sunday at her home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Hill Funeral Home South with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery South.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Olive Branch.
Mrs. King, the wife of Robert E. King, also leaves two daughters, Teresa Watkins and Wanda Newman, both of Olive Branch; three sisters, Hazel Wampler of Wynne, Ark., Mary Hennis of North Little Rock and Syvilla Frayser of Merritt Island, Fla.; a brother, Bob Wright of Derby, Kansas, and two grandsons.

HARRISBURG -- DAYTON RILEY LAMBRIGHT, infant son of Don and Sherry Wesson Lambright of Harrisburg, died Monday, Dec. 30, (2002) at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Survivors in addition to his parents include two sisters, Lacey Lambright and Delaney Lambright, both of the home; one brother, Wade Lambright of the home; his paternal grandfather, David Lambright of Glendora, Calif.; and his maternal grandparents, Calvin and Murline Smith Wesson of Harrisburg.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Kathy Hearing Smhite.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Tyronza Cemetery, with the Rev. Van Gilbert officiating. Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon today at the funeral home.

TRUMANN -- GARY LANE LAWRENCE, 14-day-old son of Teresa Kay Lawrence of Trumann, died Friday, Dec. 27, at Regional Medical Center of NEA.
Survivors in addition to the mother include five brothers, J. W. Lawrence, Paul Lawrence, Dillon Lawrence, Trevor Lawrence and Hunter Lawrence, all of the home; a sister, Fallon Lawrence of the home; and maternal grandparents, Paul and Shirley Price of Trumann.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Willis Cemetery, with the Rev. Don Simpson officiating. Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home of Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers will include Gary Price, Zac Price, Jerry Price and Ryan Price.
Shane Grimes and Travis Price will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-noon Friday at the funeral home.

HARRISBURG -- BUCKY RAY MILLER, 34, of the Greenfield community near Harrisburg died Wednesday, Jan. 1, at his home.
Born at Naylor, Mo., he was a former chef and restaurant owner and a former employee of Frolic Footwear. He was an Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Tracy Summers Miller of the home; four daughters, Anna Miller, Rosa Brown and Jill Brown, all of the home, and Brittney Miller of Jonesboro; and three sisters, Bobbie Cochran and Gloria Williams, both of Oxford, and Diane Gibson of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virgie Miller Williams; and a sister.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home, with the Rev. Greg Hoskins officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery near Harrisburg.
Active pallbearers will be Pete Sutterfield, Larry Brown, Matthew Brown, Clifton McKellar, Logan Ryals, Shannon Kelems and Michael Summers.
Honorary pallbearers will include Albert Hall, Robert Smith, Larry Austin, Terry Pierce and Billy Gann.
Visitation will be today from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sikeston, MO--JOHNNIE KATHERINE MILLER, 70, of Sikeston died Monday, Aug 13, 2007 at the home of her daughter.  She was born March 13, 1937 at Marked Tree, Ark., daughter of William and Dortch Hilliard Jester.  She and Jack Miller were married Dec 26, 1957 at Morley, MO.  Miller was a nurse 22 years with Visiting Nurse Association.  She was a member of Christian Tabernacle.  Survivors include her husband; two sons, Terry Miller of Matthews, MO, Anthony Miller of Bell City, MO; a daughter, Beverly Gibson of Benton, MO; three brothers, Garrett Jester of Wenatchee, Wash., Lloyd Jester of Kenosha, WI, Harold Jester of Sikeston; two sisters, Brenda Taylor of Benton, Betsy Jester of Oran, MO; a half-sister, Mary Makzurkiewitz of Kankakee, IL; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and two sisters.  Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 15, 2007 at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.  The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug 16, 2007 at the funeral home with the Rev. Eric McDougal and Garrett Jester officiating.  Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, MO.



SAVANNAH -- HATTIE SMITH SHARP, 81, of Savannah, formerly of Poinsett County, Ark., died Tuesday at Hardin County General Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Shackelford Funeral Home of Savannah with burial in Holland's Creek Cemetery near here.
She was a member of Olivet Pentecostal Church and Hardin County Democratic Women.
Mrs. Sharp, the widow of Clarence Montgomery Sharp, leaves three daughters, Betty Hindman and Pauline Dinsmore, both of Savannah, and Helen Robison of Perrysburg, Ohio; two sons, John W. Sharp of Forrest City, Ark., and Vestal Sharp of Savannah; three sisters, Lottie Shook, Fleetie Faulkner and Verlie Tune, all of Savannah, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

MEMPHIS, TN--MRS. MITTIE WILLIS SHARPE, 87, formerly of Wynne, Ark., and Poinsett County, Ark., died Thursday at Hillhaven Health Care Center in Memphis, where she was a resident.. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne with burial in Farm Hill Cemetery in Harrisburg, Ark.
She was a member of the Church of God.
Mrs. Sharpe, the widow of Rev. E. A. Sharpe, leaves two daughters, Mrs. Irene Yates of Memphis and Mrs. Ailene Cooper of Elizabeth City, N.C.; two sons, Cecil Willis of Sycamore, Ill., and Lealon Willis of Memphis; two sisters, Mrs. Bell Moulder of Harrisburg and Mrs. Lois Willis of Bay Village, Ark., 19 grandchildren and 30 great- grandchildren.

Chaffee, MO--LLOYD KELLEY SWAIN, 89, of Chaffee died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at his home.  He was born Sept. 27, 1918 in Trumann, Ark., son of Guy and Orphia Crain Swain.  He and Siddie Yancy were married May 25, 1946.  Swain retired as a heavy equipment operator with Operating Engineers Local 513 of St. Louis.  He was a member of First Baptist Church, VFW Post 3127 and Elks Lodge 1810, all in Chaffee.  He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.  Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kelley and Mike Swain of Chaffee, Bob Swain of Fort Pierce, FL; a daughter, Judy Finley of Chaffee; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.  Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.  The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Union Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Brian Anderson officiating.  Military rites will be provided by Missouri Military Honors Program.



TRUMANN -- BESSIE LILLIAN VICKERS, 86, of Trumann died Thursday, Jan. 2, at Regional Medical Center of NEA in Jonesboro.
Born in Bay, she was a housewife and spent most of her life in Trumann. She was of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include four daughters, Wanda Walters, Diane Williams and Keechia Vickers, all of Trumann, and Annette Fortson of Rockford, Ill.; six sons, James Vickers, Vern Vickers, Joe Vickers, Ira Vickers and Floyd Vickers, all of Trumann, and Eddie Vickers of Lake City; two sisters, Ethel Faulkenberry of Bay and Mattie Smith of Searcy; three brothers, Virgil Brewer of St. Louis, Paul Brewer of Jonesboro and O.V. Brewer of Michigan; 23 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James. E. Vickers; one son; one sister; one brother; and her parents.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann, with Steve Crawford and Gary Barker officiating. Burial will be in the Nettleton Cemetery.Active pallbearers will be Anthony Marshall, Monty Swindle, Leslie Henry, Chris Walters, Johnny Walters and Kelly Vickers.
Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Cape Girardeau, MO.--DON GREEN WEEKS, 72, of Spring Hill, FL, formerly of Cape Girardeau, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, surrounded by his family, following a battle with cancer.  Don was born Sept. 23, 1935 in Harrisburg, AR, son of Herman and Alona Weeks.  He and Vi Dunaway were married July 4, 1966 at Branson, MO.  He served in the Arkansas National Guard during the 1950s.  Don retired in 1991 from Arkansas Best Freight Lines after 30 years of service.  He was a member of Teamsters Local 957 in Dayton, OH.  Don was a member of Mariner United Methodist Church in Spring Hill.  Survivors include his wife, Vi; a brother, Gerald Weeks of Memphis, TN; five children, Carol Askew (Bill) of Spring Hill, Michael Dunaway (Mary Etta) of Cape Girardeau, Steve Dunaway (Barb) of Dayton, Dan Dunaway (Tammy) of St. Petersburg, FL, and David Dunaway of St. Louis; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Don was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Catherine; brothers, Billy, Doc, Harry, Lee and Guy.  He will be missed by his family and friends and remembered for his selfless contributions to others.  A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday (Aug 25, 2007) at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Oscar Lukefahr officiating.  Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.


Trumann, AR--FLORENCE ALTA WILLCOCKSON, 6 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Willcockson of Trumann, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the home of her parents after three weeks of illness.
She is survived by her parents; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles N. Willcockson of Trumann; and maternal grandparents, Mr.and Mrs. L. A. Brock of Trumann; one sister, Danzel Juanita; and one brother, Melvin Leroy, both at home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 this afternoon at Caldwell Chapel with the Reverand L. B. Pentecoat officiating.  Internment will be in the Chapel Cemetery, Farmers Union Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Trumann, AR--MRS. GILLA WILLCOCKSON, 55, of Trumann, died at her home 26 College in Trumann at 7:30 p.m. yesterday (Feb 11, 1943) of complications.  She was born in Greene County and later moved to Trumann.
She is survived by her husband, Charles N. Willcockson; six sons, Avery of Jonesboro, Buster of Trumann, Woodrow of U.S. Navy, Fred of U. S. Navy in England, Charles Jr and Pat at home; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Greggory of Jonesboro, Mrs. Wilma Denton and Mrs. Pauline Goodman of Trumann; two brothers, A. E. Bobbit and Mark Bobbit of Jonesboro; 
Funeral services are being held this afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Caldwell Chapel with Rev. T.
