Polk County is located in the southwest central area of the state. It was named for President James K. Polk. It was organized on November 30, 1844 as the 48th county in Arkansas. The county seat is at Mena.
courthouse is located at: 507 Church St., Mena, AR 71953-3257.

The 1980 population was 16,984. It has increased since then to 17,347 in 1990 and 20,229 in 2000.
