JAMES LUTHER CAGLE

Pocahontas, AR--James Luther Cagle, 48, of Pocahontas died May 16,1962 at the Randolph County Hospital. Born at Attica, Randolph County,  Arkansas Nov. 16, 1913 to Jess Noland and Della Beatrice Gaddy Cagle. He was preceded in death by his father, two sisters Lola and Stella Cagle Wolf.
Survivors include his mother Mrs. Della Cagle Whitrock, his wife Elizabeth Southern Cagle, four sons, LaGrande, Dallas, Glen, and David all of the home, one daughter, Glenda also of the home. One sister Mrs. Elsie Lynch of Pocahontas, one brother John Cagle of Pocahontas. Two half brothers Zan Smith and Charlie Whitrock both of Pocahontas.
Funeral services will be held at Pyburn Street Christ of Christ with George Browning officiating. Burial will be in the Harmony Cemetery.

ARBEY CROWN

Thebes, IL.--Arbey Crown, 90, of Thebes died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept 12, 2007 at Monticello House in Jackson, MO.  He was born Jan. 31, 1917 in Pocahontas, AR, son of James Emmett and Betty Levil Crown.  He married Lois Kelley, who preceded him in death in 1985.  He later married Mary Jane Cole Dec 4, 1987.  She preceded him in death Dec. 22, 2003.  Crown was a member of Alexander Free Will Baptist Church.  He worked for the Celeron Oil and Gas Co. near Talft, CA, many years.  He loved to fish and hunt.  He served his country honorably in the U. S. Army during WWII.  Survivors include a stepson, Lynn (Gracie) Cole of Thebes; four stepgrandchildren; nine great-stepgrandchildren; a nephew, Paul (Maxine) Lewis of Machesney Park, IL; two nieces, Brenda (Jim) Larry of Villa Ridge, IL, and Sandy (Bill) Sharp of Olive Branch, IL.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; three brothers, David, Richard, and Bill Crown; and a sister, Mary Frans.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Sept 13,2007) at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, IL.  The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (Sept 14, 2007) at the funeral home with the Rev. Lacie Betts and the Rev. Michael Lynn Sharp officiating.  Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes.

VIRGINIA FAY "TINA" DALTON

Virginia Fay "Tina" Dalton, 73, of Cape Girardeau, MO, died Friday, April 20, 2007 at her home.  She was born Dec. 7, 1933 at Warm Springs, AR, daughter of Ralph Elmer and Edith Dora Marlett Dalton.  She and O. W. Bryant were married in 1957 in Mississippi.  Dalton had been a beautician.  More recently she worked as a caregiver for 15 years, retiring in 2001.  Dalton was a member of VFW Post 3838 Auxiliary.  Survivors include a son, Terry Dale Dalton of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Sandra Kay Ortt of Cape Girardeau; two brothers Buck Dalton of Maynard, AR, the Rev. Bill Dalton of Paw Paw, Mich.; two sisters, Phyllis Rhodes of Cape Girardeau, Sonja Joyce McMullen of Morley, MO; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.  Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, April 23, 2007 at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.  Funeral will be at noon Monday at the funeral home with the Revs. Paul Short and Bill Dalton officiating.  Burial will be at Dalton Cemetery in Old Burr, MO.

THELMA IRENE DAVIS

SIKESTON, MO - THELMA IRENE DAVIS, 81, died Oct. 21, 2001, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.
Born Jan. 1, 1920, in Pocahontas, Ark., daughter of the late Rufus Lee and Sarah Ann Shaver Vermilye Sr., she was a member of North Park Church of Christ in Rockford, Ill. She worked in the food service department of Rockford Memorial Hospital for 17 years before retiring.
On Nov. 6, 1939, in Engram, Ark., she married Joe Reginald Davis who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son, Arnold R. Davis of Sikeston; two brothers, Rufus Lee Vermilye Jr. of Pocahontas and Harold Lloyd Shaver of Sikeston; and one sister, Lois Hubbert of Benton, MO.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday. Johnny Hester, minister of Shady Acres Church of Christ, and Pat Hogan, associate minister, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Sikeston.

AVA ALLENE EVANS EMERSON

Morley, MO.--Ava Allene Emerson, 93, of Morley, MO, died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston, Mo.  She was born Oct 27, 1913 at Maynard, AR, daughter of Alph and Gussie Johnston Evans.  She married Jim Mac Emerson Jan 21, 1939 in Blytheville, AR.  He died April 5, 1991.  She is survived by a daughter, Reda Ann Frohock of Bridgeton, MO; a brother, Sid Evans of Afton, MO; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by a son, a brother, three sisters and a grandchild.  Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today (July 30, 2007) at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton, MO.  The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, (July 31, 2007) at the funeral chapel, with Bill Bradley officiating.  Burial will follow at Old Morley Cemetery in Morley, MO.

ELMA ARBUTUS GOURLEY

Chesterfield, MO--Elma Arbutus Gourley, 83, of Chesterfield, MO, died Friday, April 25, 2008 at Garden View Care Center in Chesterfield.  She was born June 15, 1924 in Supply, Ark., daughter of the Rev. Albert Jesse and Zella R. Pierce Johnson.  She and the Rev. John Gourley wee married Nov. 8, 1940 in Corning, Ark.  He died Sept. 9, 2001.  She was a member of Frist Pentecostal Church of Cape Girardeau, MO.  She is survived by two sons, Nathanael Gourley of Bridgeton, MO, and the Rev. John Mark Gourley of Homosassa, FL; two brothers, Leroy Johnson of Phoeniz, and Deon Johnson of Lincoln, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, a daughter and a grandchild.  Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at First Pentecostal Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Darrell E. Faire Sr. officiating.  Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park and Mausoleum.  Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



JESSIE MARLETT GREEN

Jessie Green, 96, of Sikeston, MO died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Missouri Delta Medical Center.  She was born Dec 26, 1910, in Pocahontas, AR, daughter of Isaac Elvie and Josie Davidson Marlett.  She and Harl Green were married Dec. 20, 1933.  He died March 15, 1986.  Green had owned and operated Green's Grocery in Sikeston and Salcedo before retiring.  She was a member of Shady Acres Church of Christ.  Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Schwab of Shreveport, LA, Donna Morris of Sikeston; a sister, Iola Grissom of Cape Girardeau, MO; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two daughters, a brother and a sister.  The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. July 19, 2007 at Ponder Funeral Home, with Pat Hogan officiating.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

OPAL WELLS HARRIS

Opal Harris, 95, of Benton, MO died Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Missouri Delta Medican Center in Sikeston, MO.  She was born Feb. 15, 1912 in Ravenden Springs, Ark, daughter of Owen and Vi Wells.  she and Leslie M. Harris were married in 1935.  He died in 1983.  Harris moved to Missouri in 1923.  she was a 1931 graduate of Benton High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University.  She was a Sunday School teacher many years, and was active in Federated Women's Club, extension service, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H clubs.  Survivors include a son, Van Leslie Harris of Benton, and a sister, Rose Marie Bryan of Murray, KY.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and a brother.  There is no visitation.  Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Morley, Mo., with the Rev. Dale Huff officiating.  Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

TONY DION MARSHALL, SR.

POPLAR BLUFF, MO - TONY DION MARSHALL, SR., 37, formerly of Sikeston and East Prairie, died at 6:03 a.m. Oct. 31, 2001, at Three Rivers Healthcare North.
Born May 9, 1964, in Pocahontas, Ark., son of Patsy Floyd Marshall of East Prairie and the late Ralph Marshall, he lived in Poplar Bluff for the past six months, where he was an exterior glazer for the Maverick Glass Company. He was a member of the Little Brown General Baptist Church.
On May 2, 1997, he married Donna Sue Bledsoe who survives of the home.
Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include: one son, Tony Dion Marshall Jr. of the home; one daughter, Victoria Ann Marshall of the home; five stepsons, Josh Stucker of the home, T.J. Stucker and John Stucker of Sikeston, Thomas Stucker of Cape Girardeau and Stan Stucker of Columbia; one brother, Victor Marshall of Sikeston; one sister, Lesia Brown of Jonesboro, Ark.; three stepbrothers, G.W. Jernigan and Jeff Jernigan of East Prairie and Rodney Jernigan of Sikeston; one stepsister, Stephanie Jernigan of East Prairie; and his stepmother, Marie Marshall of Sikeston.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Marshall.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday with Willis Smith and David Dowdy, officiating.
Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: John Beis, Jason Decker, Tote Soriano, Bobby Taylor, Bobby McGee and Dickie Simmons.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Leroy Lecroy, John Stucker, T.J. Stucker and Jeremy Champion.

VERA L. PICKRELL

Harviell, MO--VERA L. PICKRELL, 65, of Harviell died Friday, March 22, 1996, at her Harviell residence.  Mrs. Pickrell was born on Jan. 18, 1931 in Pocahontas, Ark.  She married John Pickrell on Nov. 28, 1947 in Angola, Ind.
A housewife, she was a former employee of Sterling Stores in Poplar Bluff and a member of the Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Neelyville.
Survivors include her husband, John Pickrell of Harviell; sons, Tony Pickrell of Neelyville and Calvin Pickrell of Corning, Ark; daughters, Mary Ann Ellis of Poplar Bluff and Debbie Turner of Neelyville; brothers, Rush Baker of Pocahontas, Amos Baker of Jackson, Mich., Huey Baker of Paducah, Ky, and Philip Baker of Jackson, Mich.; sisters, Neta Kerley of Jackson, Gladys Daniels of Santa Rosa, Calif., Reba Swearengin of Horton, Mich., and Virginia Waggener of Rives Junction, Mich.; six grandchidlren; seven step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral was 2 p.m. Monday at Parrent Funeral Home chapel in Naylor, (MO) with Revs. Gary Brewer and Bobby Brooks officiating.  Burial was in Kinsey Cemetery in Harviell.

REDA RAGAINS

Chaffee, MO.--Reda Ragains, 89, of Chaffee died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007 at Chaffee Nursing Center. She was born Jan. 3, 1918 in Maynard, AR, daughter of Alpha Elias and gussie Norene Johnston Evans. she and Roy William Ragains were married April 22, 1944 in Blytheville, AR. He died Feb. 17, 2004.
Ragains was a seamstress and was an election judge in Morley, MO, many years. She was a member of Morley Church of Christ.
Survivors include a sister, Ava Emerson of Morley, and a brother, Sidney Evans of St. Louis. She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, MO. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel with Bill Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Old Morley Cemetery.

DENVER RASH

Pocahontas, AR--Denver Rash, 73, of Pocahontas died Saturday (May 10, 2008) at his residence.  He had lived the past 15 years in Pocahontas, moving from Walnut Ridge.  He was a retired truck driver, Army veteran and of the Pentecostal faith.  He is survived by his wife, Wynona Compton Rash; daughters, Pam Bagwell, Debbie Householder and Cindy Burtman; sons, Darrell Rash, Mike Rash and Darren Rash; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.  Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Strangers Home Cemetery with Perry Vandergriff officiating.  House-Gregg Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge in charge of arrangements.

WILLIS D. SEGRAVES

Cape Girardeau, MO.--Willis D. Segraves, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 at Ratliff Care Center. He was born Sept. 20, 1931 in Biggers, AR, son of Daly and Lillian Ingram Segraves. He and Joan Stone were married March 21, 1957 in Benton, MO. During the Korean conflict he served as a munitions instructor at Fort Bliss, TX. He graduated from Moler Barber College in St. Louis in 1954. He moved to Cape Girardeau in January 1957 to work at College Barber Shop. He later purchased Varsity Barber Shop and was a barber on Broadway 49 years. He was a 45-year member of St. Mark's Masonic Lodge 93, having served as worshipful master in 1982 and 2002. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Joan Segraves of Cape Girardeau; a son Keith (Denise) Segraves of St. Charles, MO; a sister, Paula McClain of Sikeston, MO; two grandchildren, Greg Segraves and Amy Segraves of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Masonic rites will be at 7:30. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Scott Moon and Kurt Schuermann officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

DONALD TAYLOR

Sikeston, MO.--Donald Taylor, 71, of Sikeston died Friday, Aug 3, 2007 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.  He was born June 18, 1936 in Reyno, Ark., son of Dempse and Lillie Ruth King Taylor.  He married Norma Gordon.  Taylor retired from Chambers Electric.  He served in the U. S. Air Force.  Survivors include his wife; his mother of Sikeston; two daughters, Rhonda Harkness of Des Arc, MO, Karen Usmani of Houston; a stepson, Kenneth Thomason of Avert, MO; and a stepdaughter, Tonya Bailey of Dexter, MO; five sisters, Ruthine Modglin and Betty Taylor of Sikeston; Lequita Morris of Norman, AR, Charlotte Drury and Bunny Keesee of Cape Girardeau, MO; two brothers, Glenn Taylor of St. Louis and Billy Taylor of Gulfport, MS; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his father.  Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time (Aug 7, 2007) at Ponder Funeral Home.  The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today (Aug 7, 2007) at the funeral home.  Burial will be at a later date at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO, with full military honors.

LILLIE RUTH TAYLOR

Cape Girardeau, MO--Lillie Ruth Taylor, 97, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008 at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.  She was born Aug. 1, 1910 in Warm Springs, Ark., daughter of Thomas Foster and Pauena Whittenburg King.  she and Dempse Taylor were married Feb. 8, 1929.  He died Aug. 6, 1977.  Taylor was formerly of Sikeston, Mo., and a member of Shady Acres Church of Christ.  Survivors include two sons, Glen Taylor of St. Louis, Billy Taylor of Gulfport, Miss.; five daughters, Ruthine Modglin and Betty Taylor of Sikeston, Lequita Morris of Norman, Ark., Charlotte Drury and Bunny Keesee of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Wilma of Corning, Ark., Tommie of Kansas City, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a son, two brothers, three sisters and three grandchildren.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to time of service today (Jan 15, 2008) at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.  The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, with Tommy Gerrish officiating.  Burial will be in Garden of Memories-Sikeston.

CLINTON CARROLL DEAN VANDERGRIFF, SR.

Dalton, AR--Clinton Carroll Dean Vandergriff Sr., 57, died Dec.10, 2000 at Randolph County Medical Center in Pocahontas, Arkansas.
Born Oct. 23, 1943 in Dalton community to Cleatus and Maye Crawford Vandergriff. Carroll contacted polio at age of 5 and was seriously physically handicapped. He owned and operated an auto repair business for almost forty years. In 1965 he and Glenda Gail Cagle were married.
He is survived by his mother Maye Crawford Vandergriff, his father and step-mother Cleatus and Hazel Dawson Vandergriff, his wife of 35 1/2 years, Glenda, two sons Carroll Dean, Jr. and wife Penny, and James (J.C.), two grandsons Clinton Carroll Dean Vandergriff, III and Max Allen Vandergriff.
Burial will be in the Harmony Cemetery with arrangements made with Cox-Waymon Funeral Home.  --Pocahontas Star Herald, submitted by a Friend of Free Genealogy.


VIELLA WYMORE WINEBAUGH

Pocahontas, AR--Viella Wymore Winebaugh, 79, of Pocahontas, died Friday, May 23, 2003, at Pocahontas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  Born in Williford, she was a licensed practical nurse.  Her parents, Wesley and Amy Morris Wilkerson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Willard Winebaugh of Pocahontas; one daughter, Patsy Wymore Miles of Scott, LA; one stepdaughter, Annetta Winebaugh Young of Prairie Grove; two brothers, Raymond Wilkerson of Williford and Clinton Wilkerson of FL; one sister, Lu Wilkerson Condrey of Memphis; one grandchild; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 25, in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas, with Nelson Henderson and Ben Scott officiating.  Burial followed in Randolph Memorial Gardens in Pocahontas.
