Sevier County

Located in southwest Arkansas and bordering the state of Oklahoma, Sevier County is Arkansas's sixteenth county, formed on October 17, 1828 from Hempstead and Old Miller Counties.
It was named for Ambrose Sevier, U.S. Senator from Arkansas.
When Sevier County was created, the county was much larger. It went south to the Texas state line and included parts of what are presently Little River, Miller, Howard, and Polk counties. In 1829, the portion south of the Red River was made part of Miller County.

Sevier County is known as “The Land of Lakes”, “The Land of Fruits and Flowers” and “The Home of Friendly People”.
The county has five lakes within a 35-mile radius, five rivers and mountain streams and forests.

De Queen was incorporated on July 9, 1897 and named after Jan de Goeijen (the name was later changed to the more prounceable De Queen)
