EDITH MAY HAGAN

HARDY, ARK–EDITH MAY HAGAN, 89, of Hardy, Ark., died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001 at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born June 6, 1912 in Williford, Ark., the daughter of the late Noah Elexander and Sarah Elizabeth Rader Ladd. She was married to Uba Ulysess Hagan on July 6, 1930 in Mountain Grove, Mo. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1977.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Bradford Community Church in Ravenden, Ark.
Survivors include one son, U. Austin Hagan of Paragould, Ark.; one daughter, Freda Elizabeth Miller of Hardy; one sister, Vera Hassler of Apple Valley, Calif.; two grandchildren, Michelle A. Rogers of Jonesboro, Ark., and Tara C. Stovall of Paragould; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Linda Jo Hagan; eight brothers; and two sisters.
Services were Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the Bradford Community Church in Ravenden with Rev. Gaylon Russell officiating. Burial was in the Bradford Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Service, Inc., of Hardy, Ark.

KATHRYN JOYCE HAWKINS
Hartford City, IN--Kathryn Joyce Hawkins, 65, died at 2:15 a.m. Monday, September 3, 2007, at Blackford Community Hospital in Hartford City, IN.  She was born on February 4, 1942 in Williford, AR the daughter of the late Edgar and Leatha (Hill) Yates.  Kathryn married Mack Von Hawkins January 7, 1958 in Williford, AR.  She moved to Blackford County in 1970 from Arkansas.
Kathryn retired from General Tire in Marion, IN in 1990 after 25 years of service.  She was a member of the Upland Church of the Nazarene in Upland, IN.  Kathryn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and she loved gardening and planting flowers.
Kathryn will be sadly missed by her husband, Mack Von Hawkins of Hartford City; daughter, Pamela A. Wright of Hartford City; son, Daniel Lee (wife, Brenda K.) Hawkins of Muncie; grandchildren, Caleb S. Townsend, Brooke Hawkins, Tristan C. J. Townsend, Cheyenne Townsend, Braiden C. V. Wright, Ashley K. Watters and Daegan Dakota Hawkins; sisters, Billie Fuller of Hardy, AR, Sharon Eversoll of Glencoe, AR, Shelia Pittman of Dover, AR; brothers, Burlin Yates of Holland, MI, Jack Yates of Ash Flat, AR, Charles "Bill" Yates of Marion, IN, Jearl Yates of Hardy, Jim Yates of Hardy, Ricky Yates of Hardy, John Yates of Denver, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; half sister, Lucille Busby; and half brother, Jernigan Yates.
Visitation for Kathryn will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 North High Street, Hartford City, and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2007 at the Upland Church of the Nazarene, 335 South Main Street, Upland, IN.
Funeral service for Kathryn will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Septembr 6, 2007 at the Upland Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Rosemary Robertson of the Upland Church of the Nazarene officiating.
Interment will follow at Hartford City Cemetery in Hartford City, IN.  --The Star Press, Muncie, IN, September 4, 2007.


LAWRENCE RUDOLPH HENDERSON
Lawrence Rudolph Henderson, son of Claudie Clay and Montie Ann Stuart Henderson, was born September 21, 1921, near Mammoth Spring, Arkansas.  He departed this life Monday, January 6, 2003, in South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center, in Arkansas City, Kansas, at the age of eighty-one years, three months, and fifteen days.
On July 1, 1950, he was united in marriage to Clarice May Heckendorn and to this union one daughter and two sons were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Margaret Contrera; three brothers, Stuart, Harrell, and Alvin Henderson; and a sister, Emma Jane Henderson.
Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Clarice, of the home; two sons, Larry Henderson and his wife, Rhonda of Marshfield, Missouri, and Artie Henderson of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren, Heather Contrera of Manhattan, Kansas, Kim Contrera of Pittsburg, Kansas and Beth and Callie Henderson, both of Marshfield, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
He was raised in Williford, Arkansas, where he graduated from high school.  He served his country faithfully in the United States Army from January 6, 1941 until August 1, 1945, during World War II.  After being honorably discharged from the Army, he attended college and obtained his teaching certificate.  In 1949 and 1950 he taught school in Seymour, Missouri and then moved to Cherokee, North Carolina.  In 1954 he and Clarice moved to Arkansas City, Kansas, where Lawrence was a teacher supervisor for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for many years.
Lawrence had made his profession of faith in Christ and was a member of First Baptist Church in Arkansas City, Kansas.
He belonged to the 206th Coastal Artillery in Russelville, Arkansas, and was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and was President of the National Federation of Federal Employees.  He also was a member of the Kiwanis Club, and the Masonic Lodge and Shrine Club in Arkansas City.  He loved music of all kinds, and particularly enjoyed classical, big band and gospel.  His family was very important to him and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Lawrence was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend.  He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Funeral service was Friday, January 10, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Seymour First Baptist Church with Revs. Gordon Heckendorn and Mitchell Wright officiating.  Music was by Johnna Douglas, Denise Burt, Connie Salsbury and Nancy Chandler.  Final resting place was Seymour Masonic Cemetery with full military rites.  Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Seymour, MO was in charge of service.  


JOHN LOTUS HILL
JOHN LOTUS HILL, 92, of Oklahoma City, OK, died May 3, 1989. Born in 1896 at Hardy, AR moved to Pauls Valley, Indian Territory with his family in 1904. During WWI he served in France and Germany, as a Wireless Operator in the Army Signal Corp. Upon returning in 1920, he married Omah Lee Brewer. After jobs with Sinclair Pipeline and Santa Fe RR, at several towns in Oklahoma, they settled in OKC in 1930. He spent his working career, as a happy efficient and well liked letter carrier, until his retirement in 1961. His main vocation in life seemed to be the dedication of his time, energies, and interests toward the children in his life, the many nieces and nephews that gathered about the ""Pied-Piper'', by example and by working with them, he gave them life long interest in the sports that he loved, an avid golfer for over 50 years, he remained an active player until 2 years ago. The lives he touched so dearly and by whom he is survived: his lifetime friends and in-laws Johnnie and Cecil Gardner of MWC, and Opal Malone of OKC; nephews Walter J. Hill and wife Dorothy, Horace B. Hill and wife Louise, Max A. Paul and Val Brewer; nieces Juhree Ladd, Mary Paul, Mary Harkey, Pauline Patrick, Jack Moser, and Dorothy Sieze; sister-in-law Ruby Besk, and many grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Services will be officiated by the Rev. Bill Elkins at 11:30, Saturday, May 6, 1989 at the Guardian Midtown Chapel, followed by burial at Olivet Cemetery, in Pauls Valley. GUARDIAN MIDTOWN

PALMER T. HOGGARD
CAVE CITY, AR–PALMER T. HOGGARD, 91, of Cave City died Nov. 17, 2001, at North Arkansas Life Care Center in Horseshoe Bend. Born June 20, 1910, he was the son of Oliver and Laura Townsley Hoggard. He was a farmer and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four sons: Ray Hoggard of Derby, Kan., Wayne Hoggard of Carls Junction, Mo., Brady Hoggard of Searcy, and Dale Hoggard of Pryor, Okla.; two daughters: Dora Redding of Fenton, Mo., and Euna Faye Parsons of Walnut Ridge; one brother, Eulis Hoggard of Batesville; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Hoggard; four brothers: Thurman Hoggard, Leo Hoggard, Owen Hoggard and Arville Hoggard; four sisters: Euna Price, Anna Simpson, Essie Brown and Elmarine McLeod; and a great-grandson, Jay Hoggard.
Services were Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Qualls Funeral Home Chapel with Grayden Milligan officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery east of Cave City with arrangements under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers were Phil Hoggard, Gary Hoggard, Rick George, Brad Hoggard, Glen Redding and Randy Parsons.

MARTHA EFFIE DAVIS HOOPER
Martha Effie Davis Hooper, 89, of Henagar, Ala., formerly of Hardy, Ark., died Wednesday, September 3, 1997, at her home.
She was a retired school teacher and a member of the RLDS Church.
Survivors are one son, Ward David Hooper of Bate City, MO; one daughter, Mary Emmaniel Long of Henagar; two brothers, Zedric Davis of Grain Valley, MO; and David Davis of Independence, MO; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-granchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, September 5, 1997, at 10 A. M. in Henagar, with Rev. Herbert Thompson officiating.  Graveside services were Saturday, September 6, 1997, at Baker Cemetery in Hardy, Ark., with Bro. Jim Boggs officiating.  Arrangements were under the direction of Heath Funeral Home Oak Hill Chapel of Harday.  --Contributed by Christi Scovel.


MRS. FLORA BALL HORN
Mrs. Flora Ball Horn died at 1:00 A. M. Friday, October 16, 1951, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. N. Burge.  She was born at Hickory Valley, Arkansas, November 29, 1867, the daughter of Clinton Moore and Nancy Anderson Ball.  She was married to William T. Horn on January 4, 1886, and they made their home at Cave City, Arkansas until October 16, 1916, when they moved to Hardy.
Mr. Horn was one of the best known Sharp County citizens.  He was a prominent Mason, and served Sharp County as Tax Collector and County Judge.  He was a Methodist, and was a Steward in the Methodist church at the time of his death.
Mrs. Horn was a devout Methodist, a member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service, and a member of Mrs. Andrews' Sunday School class.  
She became ill on June 7, 1951, but bore her suffering with patience and trust in her Heavenly Father.
Survivors are:  Mrs. O. N. Burge, Conway Horn and H. A. Horn, Hardy; Clint V. Horn, Jonesboro; Buford Horn of Durant, Mississippi; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers:  Active-S. C. Bates, H. H. Norman, R. A. Jackson, Web Long, Eddie Causbie and Ralph Hall.  Honorary--R. N. Clay, J. I. Willett, Estel Vance, Floyd Jackson, Hubert Daugherty, Arthur Snow, Ernest Daugherty, Carman Sullivan, R. L. Biggers and Fred Carter.


ANNA MARIE HORRELL
Hardy, AR--ANNA MARIE HORRELL, 74, Hardy, AR (formerly of Independence, MO) passed away October 5, 1998, at her home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 8, at Heath Oak Hill Chapel, Hardy, with the Rev. Winford Franks officiating; interment in Richardson Cemetery, north of Hardy.
