MISS MARY BRODY LAID TO REST--Funeral services for the late Miss Mary Elizabeth Brody, aged 87, who died
suddenly Saturday night (March 5, 1921), a moment or two after calling for a glass of water,
were held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. A. Womack from
the residence of her nephew and niece, Mr and Mrs Lodie Stone, with whom she had
made her home for the past 35 years.
Miss Brody comes from one of the county's historic families, her father
having built the first school west of the Mississippi river in the year 1838, on
the site now occupied by Fayette High School, and her mother's brother, the late
Albert Anthony, having helped survey and plat the site of the city of
Fayetteville in 1844.
Miss Brody's father donated the site for the building of the first
Methodist Church in Fayetteville, the building now being used as a blacksmith
shop.
She was born June 27, in 1834 in Benton County and has lived in Benton and
Washington Counties most of her life. She joined the Methodist church at an early
age and was known and loved as a quiet, unassuming, Christian character. She was
one of ten children, of whom only two brothers, Louis Brody of Frederick Texas,
and James Brody of Austin, Texas, survive.
Honorary pall-bearers were life long friends of the selected from the
older residents, as follows: Judge C. W. Walker, Mose Barm, Theo Jones, W. P.
McNair Sr, Dr. H. D. Wood, and Major B. R. Davidson. Active pall-bearers were:
John A. Reed, R. A. Drain, K. C. Key, Bruce Holcomb, Will Crouch and R. D.
Bogart.
--Fayetteville Daily Democrat (Fayetteville, Arkansas), March 7, 1921, contributed by Mary Wilson. Fayetteville, AR--MRS. LAURA MADA HANCOCK COOPER, who died Thursday (Feb 17, 1931) was buried the same day
at Zion, Rev. L. L. Johnson of Lowell officiating. She is survived by her
husband Roy S. Cooper, to whom she was married Aug 9, 1909; two daughters Lorena
and Mildred; her father, C. J. Hancock and a brother, Alby Hancock of Ruhl,
Idaho, and a sister, Mrs. John E. Baxter of Springdale. She was born Sept 17,
1891 near Springdale and had lived all her life here in this section.
--Fayetteville Daily Democrat (Fayetteville, Arkansas) February 18, 1921, contributed by Mary Wilson. Fayetteville, AR--Funeral services for MRS. FANNIE HANCOCK HAWKINS, who died Wednesday after
a 9-months illness, were held Thursday afternoon from Moore's Parlors with Reb
B. L. Ayers of the First Baptist Church officiating. Pallbearers were A. C.
McAdams, Clifford Reese, Toby Sowder. J. F. Harrison, Frank Write and Roy Nix.
Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs Hawkins was born October 15th in Tennessee 45 years ago but lived most
of her life in Arkansas. She leaves her husband, J. W. Hawkins, a daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Johnson, and a little grand daughter, besides
three sisters. Mrs. Adel Grahem of Lead Hill, Mrs. Arbell Casey of Ohmulgee,
Okla. And Mrs Laurie Bargar of Sapulpa, Okla.
The following tribute is paid the deceased by a friend:
" Following a lingering illness this good woman passed peacefully into
everlasting rest of Wednesday of this week. Long in the shadow of the two world
she came to know death as a familiar friend. In the crucible of suffering the
cross was consumed and the gold refined. At the close of the day the change that
comes but once passed over ger face and she was gone."

71, of Benton, MO died Friday, March 2, 2007 at Southeast
Missouri Hospital, Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born on
Aug. 18, 1935 in Lincoln, AR, son of Benjamin F. and
Minnie Maye Leverett Rogers. He and Lula Belle O'Guinn
