BROWNING - Kermit Reno Bates, 83, of Chico, Calif., formerly of Browning, (IL) died Thursday, July 3, 1997, at Enloe Hospital in Chico. Born June 6, 1914, in Browning to Jonathan and Elva Bollinger Bates, he married Mary Ercolini on Feb. 14, 1940, in San Francisco. She survives. Also surviving are one son, John of Reno, Nev.; two daughters, Barbara Stevens and Deborah White, both of Chico; two sisters, Garnet Briney of Morton and Betty Esther of Rushville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.
He served in the Marine Corps for six years and later served in the Army Air Forces, where he was a nose gunner on a B-24. He worked for Standard Oil in San Francisco. He later was a toll collector for the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. He then moved to Chico, where he worked for the State Board of Equalization for 32 years. He was a member of First Christian Church in Chico. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today at his church. Burial will be in Chico Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted. Newton-Bracewell-Chico Funeral Home in Chico is in charge of arrangements.

WIESNER, AMY ELIZABETH
Amy Elizabeth Wiesner was born in Dover, Ark. on Nov. 22, 1915 to Amos and Maude Bullock. She passed away May 20, 2006. Graveside services are being held for Amy Elizabeth (Bullock) Wiesner, 90, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oroville, Calif. She will be buried alongside her husband, Curtis W. Wiesner, who preceded her in death in 1998. visitation will be at 9 a.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Oroville Funeral Home in Oroville, Calif. Amy led a blessed life and was loved by her family and many friends. Amy was a homemaker who worked hard to give her family a loving and secure home. At times she would work at additional pursuits, such as real estate and sales. She was multi-talented in that she became an accomplished carpenter and painter working beside her husband, Curtis, in building various homes for their family during their 65 years of marriage. Among her many hobbies she loved to garden and specialized in raising iris's and roses. When her husband became a Deputy Sheriff in Downieville, in Sierra County, she became a deputy matron in order to assist on ambulance runs or when a female suspect was being arrested. In 1983 she and her husband moved to Forbestown in order to be near the Mount Hope Bible Conference Grounds, where Curtis was on the board of directors and Amy provided nursing care and cooking duties. After her husbands death, Amy sold her home in Forbestown and moved to Chico. Survivors include her daughter and husband, Nadine and Fred Rawlins of Chico; her sons and their wives, Gene and Barbara Wiesner of Rancho Tehama; Bill and Ardella Wiesner of Etters, Pa; her sister Jonnie Russell of Carlsbad, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society or Mount Hope Bible Conference Grounds. Funeral services are being conducted by Oroville Funeral Home, of Oroville, Calif. WIESNER, CURTIS WILLIAM
FORBESTOWN -- Graveside services for former Redding resident Curtis William Wiesner, 84, of Forbestown will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oroville. Mr. Wiesner died Friday, March 6, 1998, at his residence. Born Dec. 9, 1913, in Illinois, he lived in Shasta County for many years before moving away about 40 years ago. He was a plastering contractor, was a deputy for the Sierra County Sheriff's Department and was a Baptist minister. He served in the U.S. Navy, was on the board of deacons at Challenge Community Church in Challenge and the First Baptist Church in Orland, served on the board of trustees at Mt. Hope Bible Conference Grounds in Brownsville, and helped build Anderson Baptist Church in Anderson. Survivors include wife Amy; sons Gene Wiesner of Forbestown and Bill Wiesner of Etters, Pa.; daughter Nadine Rawlins of Chico; 11 grandchildren; 24 greatgrandchildren; and two greatgreat-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Hope Bible Conference Grounds in Brownsville or the Challenge Community Church, both c/o Oroville Funeral Home, 1454 Montgomery St., Oroville, CA 95965.
