Man Killed in Shingle Springs Trailer File

Funeral services for Dale Andre, 59, who was burned to death in the fire which destroyed his auto trailer cabin at Shingle Springs last Thursday will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. in Memory Chapel. Army records at Washington D C. were checked to determine that Andre was a veteran of World War II. Thus far no relatives have been contacted. Flames had enveloped the cabin when the fire was first sighted by Mrs. Alex Andres, whose husband owns the general merchandise store located in front of the lot where Andre's cabin was located. Graveside services for Neil Lewis Andrews, 83, of Star Route, Folsom, who died October 20 at the county hospital were held October 22 at Jayhawk cemetery in Rescue. Mrs. Mary Brandon dead

Mrs. Mary Brandon, mother of Fred Brandon and a former resident of the Rescue section, died this week at Sacramento. Funeral will be Friday in Sacramento with burial in Jayhawk cemetery, this county. BUTLER, NELSON CHRISTIAN

"Nelson Christian Butler died at his home near the 14 mile house, on Dec. 28th, from pneumonia. Mr. Butler was a native of Utah, aged 51 years, and was well known and highly respected resident of Blairs District, where he owned a fine farm. He leaves a wife, daughter of the late Chas. Hogan, and eight children to mourn the loss of a kind and devoted husband and father. Mr. Butler had been in town a few days before his death and complained of a severe cold, which shortly after developed into pneumonia. Dr. S. H. Rantz was summoned and did everything possible to relieve the sufferer, but the disease had secured too firm a hold on him to be stayed, and death resulted as stated. The funeral services will be held in this city  Sunday, at 2pm from the Methodist Church. Rev E.J. Bradner, officiating. The interment will be in Union Cemetery." Kaye F Caietti. 64. of Cameron Park, died Nov. 29. She was born June 2, 1939 in Loyalton. Mrs. Caietti was a very loving, giving and caring person also had a great love for animals. She was preceded in death by her son, William Caietti Jr. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, William Caietti; her mother. Kate Prater: her son, Richard P. Caietti; her daughters, Valane Cichy and Sandia Gregoire; her sister, Susan Meeks; and eight grandchildren. A viewing is being conducted between 4 and 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 at Green Valley Mortuary, corner of Green Valley and Bass Lake roads. Cameron Park Services are being conducted at 10 am Friday. William Caietti succumbed to respiratory failure on Saturday. January 10, 2004 in the company of his family. He was preceded in death by his son William. Jr., his parents Peter and Jennie Caietti and his loving wife Kaye. He is survived by his daughters Sandra (John) Gregioire. Valarie ( Kim ) Cichy and son Richard: grandchildren PJ and Jaclyn Gregoire, Jennifer and Greg Hansen. Benjamin and Francesca Caietti and William III and Joey Caietti: his brothers Peter (Jeanette). Clyde (Dorothy). Robert (Maxine) Caietti and sister Jean Marie ( Buck ) Buchanan and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was a native Sacramentan who began his distinguished law career as a deputy with the Sacramento Sheriff's Department. He was a graduate of CSUS and Hastings School of Law. He started practice in 1963 and retired in 1998. He enjoyed his time teaching at Lincoln Law School and sitting pro lem on the Sacramento bench. Bill was a member of the Kiwanis Club. Sons of Italy and Cameron Park Country Club, where he served as their legal counsel for many years, he loved to play golf and travel. He had a passion for opera that he passed on to his daughters. Contributions may be sent to Snowline Hospice or Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Placerville. Viewing will be Thursday. January 15lh. from 6:00-8:00 PM at Green Valley Mortuary. FARY, FRANK L.

Frank L. Fary died Sept. 17 at his Camino residence at the age of 82 Mr. Fary served in the U S. Army and was a veteran of World War II He was employed as a wildlife biologist with the state of California, Department of Fish and Game and retired after 33 years. He was an alumnus of Grant Union High School and American River College. He also attended Sierra College and California State University, Sacramento He is survived by his wife of 58 years Anita Fary, sons Dick Fary, Bob Fary and Bill Fary and six grandchildren Services will be at Green Valley Mortuary. Masonic services, El Dorado Lodge No 26 F&AM will officiate. Minnie Elenore Gouveia, a resident of Shingle Springs, died of natural causes at her home Thursday. She was 86. Mrs Gouveia was born in Downey and lived in El Dorado County for 40 years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Placerville and was a homemaker. Mrs. Gouveia is survived by two daughters, Dolores Kelly of Shingle Springs and Joan Hanson of Somerset; a sister, Dorothy Pesqueira of Reseda; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Placerville with Father Anthony Gumell officiating. Interment will be at Jayhawk Cemetery in Rescue. Mountain Democrat 1-24-1994. HEFLEY, Raymond L.

Raymond Hefley, 64 years old, passed away in Carmichael, Calif., on November 18, 2007. Born in Crowder, Okla., he was last a resident of El Dorado Hills, Calif. He graduate of Redwood High School, Visalia, Calif., and he earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice and college teaching credentials from Sacramento State College, then worked for California Dept. of Justice for 31 years. He was a great Humanitarian! Preceded in death by his father Harvey Hefley, he is survived by his wife of 22 years, Judith Hefley; his mother Maxine Hefley; his son Adam (Mac) Hefley; daughter Dawn Hefley; and brothers Earl and Ken Hefley. Death of George Henry

Henry

At the residence of his son-in-law, in Placerville, Cal., on the fifth of August inst., in the 73rd year of his age, Mr. George Henry.

He was buried at Coloma, near Placerville, by the side of his wife, who died eight years previously. Mr. Henry will be remembered by our older citizens. He came to Rushville in 1834, and was connected with Mr. John Todhunter as carpenter and house joiner for many years. He helped in building the "Fairweather" house, now occupied by D. Munroe; the house on the north-east corner of the square; Kinderhook school house, etc. Among his last jobs was Dr. Worthington's house. HUMPHREYS, EDWIN AUSTIN

Edwin Austin  Humphrey, 81 of Rescue, died Dec 22 He was born April 19, 1920 in Hayden, Ariz. Mr. Humphreys was a  veteran of World War II He worked as a ship captain for the US Army for 20 years.  Mr. Humphreys was a long time member  of the Jayhawk Cemetery board, the Rescue Community Center the Rescue Historical Society and an IX >ear member of the Rescue Fire Department board He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Humphries, his son, Francis Hough three grandchildren, 11\e great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews Services will be conducted at 11 am Saturday, Jan 3 at Green Valley Mortuary, Green Valley and Bass Lake roads, Cameron Park Interment will be in Jayhawk Cemetery. KIPP , GEORGE LAVERGNE

George LaVergne Kipp died at a local care facility Tuesday, Jan. 11. He was 97. Mr. Kipp was born Feb. 22,1902 in Plymouth. He was a resident of Placerville. Mr. Kipp worked as a truck driver for over 20 years and was a member of the Ben Ali Shrine Lodge for more than 50 years. He was a private pilot and continued to fly until he was well into his 70s. He is a direct descendant of the Kipp and Gray families who have been in El Dorado County since the 1850s. He was an avid golfer and is known for his eight holes-in-one. He is survived by his son, Stewart Gray Kipp of Placerville, and two daughters, Winifred Swett of Fairfield, and Carol McQuaid of Lakeside. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Evelyn Mueller of Sacramento. Services will be private. "Mrs Katherine Koch of Diamond Springs passed away Monday after a lingering illness. Deceased was 54 years of age, a native of Germany, and had lived in this county since she was 18 years old. She was a devoted wife and a desirable neighbor. She leaves a husband, John August Koch, to mourn her loss. The services are being held this afternoon at Dillinger Undertaking  Parlors. Rev H.H. Graveside services for Faye Lower, 72, of Cameron Park, who died Saturday at a Folsom Hospital will be at 2 p.m. today at Jayhawk Cemetery, Rescue, with the Rev. Larry George of Foothills United Methodist Church officiating. A native of Bryant, Okla., she lived the past 22 years in El Dorado County. Mrs. Lower is survived by her husband, Max A. MARTINEZ, GEORGE

The  funeral services for George Martinez, for many years a resident of the Shingle section, will be held Saturday afternoon from the Dillinger mortuary chapel. Rev. J.W. Dunlop will have charge. Burial will be at the cemetery at Shingle Springs, Mr. Martinez passed away Wednesday at his residence near Shingle. A native of Mexico, he had for a number of years been employed by the El Dorado Limestone Company. More recently he lived in retirement on the small acreage he had acquired in the Shingle district. Relatives, living in Mexico, survive, but friends report that Mr. Martinez had not communicated with them for many years and it is doubtful if it will be possible to locate them. Anna Jean "Nan" Muir died in Folsom, Jan. 12, 2004. Wife of John Muir of Cameron Park, mother of Debra and husband Rhett Arbuckle of San Ramon and Jacqueline and husband Trent de Montel of Folsom. grandmother of Jessica and Joseph de Montel. sister of Henry Francis Powell, Jr. of Wright City, Missouri, daughter-in-law of Pauline Muir of Sligo. Pa., sister-in-law of Gale and wife Alice Muir of Shippenville. Pa, and Janel Muir of Sligo, Pa. A native of Glasborough, New Jersey, aged 64 years. Nan was an active member of United Foothills Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking at the Upper Room in Placerville. She was a former Girl Scouts leader, enjoyed arts and crafts, shopping and being a grandma. In recent years she cherished her time traveling the country by motor home with her husband and her faithful cat companion Snoopy. Friends are welcome for visitation on Thursday. NICHOLS, FRANK W.

Frank W. Nichols Sr.. 84. of Rescue, and a long-time resident of Folsom, died Sept. 26. He was born March 28, 1919 in Encampment. Wyo. Mr. Nichols was a veteran of World War II and the Korea conflict serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor, recipient of the Purple Heart Award, and a member of the National Association of Destroyer Veterans. Following his active duty, he joined the Naval Reserves, where he finished over 50 years of military service. Mr. Nichols was a senior engineer for the Pacific Telephone Company for 30 years. In his retirement he enjoyed gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife. Gwenn Nichols. He is survived by his sons. Bill Nichols. Ed Nichols and Steve Nichols; his daughter. STEVENSON, Nicholas M.

''Nicky'' On November 6, 1985, the birth of two beautiful twin boys graced our family, Nicholas Michael, and Christopher Jon Stevenson. On September 29, 2007, Nicholas "Nicky" sadly passed away. Survived by the love of family and many friends. Nicky was a graduate of Ponderosa High School, former player, and a Bruin for life. Nicky enjoyed coaching his Bruins for two years. He considered these kids his extended family. Besides his love of coaching, Nicky loved football, snowboarding, camping, wakeboarding, golfing, and beer pong. Nicky will always be remembered for his sense of humor, crazy antics, and signature smile. He is loved and missed by many people, and will always be in our hearts. We Love You, Nicky!  Geo. Stowe, a native of Illinois, aged 62 years, died at Shingle Springs May 20. from acute pleurisy. He was buried in Shingle Springs cemetery Friday. His only surviving relative is a son, George, of Sacramento, who arrived Thursday. He had been in this State about 15 years, and was a carpenter by trade. Mountain Democrat 5-22-1915

WEBER, GEORGE F.,

George F. Weber. Succumbs to Heart Attack on Tuesday George F. Weber, 65, a native of the Jayhawk section of this county, was found dead in his cabin home on Tuesday when his friend of many years, Fred Lorenz, investigated because he saw no smoke coming from the chimney of the cabin. Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock from the M. O'Keefe mortuary chapel and burial will be in Jayhawk cemetery. Court Confidence, No. 117, Foresters of America, of which Mr. Weber was a member, will have charge. Mr. Weber had spent almost his entire life in the Jayhawk section and was a not infrequent visitor in Placerville. Of recent years he had been troubles with his heart and had been treating with a local physician. Coroner A. J. Orelli determined that no formal inquest would be necessary in the case, although an investigation was made. Lorenz reported he last saw Weber on Monday evening about 5 o'clock and that he then seemed to be in his usual health and good spirits. Tuesday afternoon, not having seen Mr. Weber during that day, and seeing no smoke coming from his cabin, Lorenz investigated and found that his old friend had passed away. WENTZ, ALBERTA

Alberta Wentz died Jan 20 at her home in Sacramento She had been a resident of Rescue She was born and raised there and was one of six children of George and Pearl Wing, pioneers of the Rescue Area. She graduated from El Dorado County High School in 1936, and immediately after graduation she went to work for the Arcade Bakery in Placerville. It was there that she met her future husband, George Wentz. The two were married for 45 years Mr. Wentz died in 1982 Shortly after her marriage, they moved to Sacramento where they made their home. She worked as a cafeteria worker and a secretary in the Sacramento City Schools. She retired in 1982 She was a volunteer tutor in the Sacramento Literacy Project and a member of the Fremont Presbyterian Church, Sutler Hospital Auxiliary and the Gold Fanners Trailer Club She is survived by her son, Donald Wentz of Sacramento; brother, Austin Wing of Placerville; sisters. Ha Brazil of Rescue and Hulda Fehnemann of Folsom; two grandchildren and a great-great grandchild Her two brothers, Morley and Halley Wing, died years earlier Remembrances in Mrs Wentz' name may be made to Jayhawk Cemetery in Rescue, Rescue Community Center or to a charity of your choice. WILEY, ALEXANDER
Alexander Wiley Passes to Rest.
The death of Alexander Wiley at Shingle Springs on Tuesday, removed from that section one of its oldest and best known residents. He was a native of Iowa and was 85 years of age. He had lived in Shingle Springs for 48 years, where he first engaged in the general merchandise business and later, was with the Pioneer Milling company; but of late years, failing in health and strength prevented his engaging in active work. He is survived by a widow, two sons William and Walter, and three sisters. Miss Fannie Wiley. Mrs. Chas. Schroeder. of Diamond Springs, and Mrs. Leonard Wing, of Grass Valley. Funeral services were held at the family home in Shingle Springs Thursday when Rev. E .E Clark of this city officiated and Mrs. S. H. Rantz and A. S. A SUDDEN DEATH

Arthur Wiley, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Wiley, of Shingle Springs, died suddenly last Wednesday morning from heart disease, which was induced by convulsions, from which he had suffered for years. He was thirty years of age. and besides his parents leaves a brother and a sister: the latter being Mrs. Carl Schroeder, of Diamond Springs. WILEY, JANE

Mrs. Jane Wiley, who passed away on December 6, 1930, was born in Wisconsin on May 2, 1848 and was 82 years, seven months and four days old at the time of her death. She came to California in 1855 when she Was quite young with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Coatsworth, who settled near Clarksville where they resided for a number of years. After her marriage in October 1869 to Alexander Wiley, she came to Shingle Springs to reside and has since made this her home. She lived here more than 61 years.Silas Grainger of this place and Edward Johnson, of Clarksville, were her schoolmates. She was at the time of  her death the oldest pioneer resident of this place and was devoted to her home and family, a worthy, good, kind friend and neighbor, highly esteemed by her many friends here and elsewhere and will be missed by her dear ones as well as by her friends. Mrs. Wiley was the mother of six children, three of whom survive her, Mrs. Ella Schroeder, of Montague; Mrs. Lora Wing, of Sonora and Mrs. Frances Connelly, of Oakland. Her husband and three grown sons preceded her to the Great Beyond many years ago. She also leaves five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral took place here last Sunday from the home she loved so well and was largely attended. The services were conducted by the Rev Null, of Placerville and the choir from Placerville sang several beautiful selections. She was laid to rest in the family plot in Shingle Springs cemetery beside the loved ones gone before. There was a profusion of lovely flowers. The pall-bearers were Bernard Heusner, W. G. Taylor, Silas Grainger, Edward Johnson, C. L. Scheiber and Thomas Sheets. A beautiful floral piece was given as a token of esteem and high regard by her friends in this community. This dear old friend of ours, Has answered the Father's calling, To join the Great Throng on high, Where the dear ones will all gather to meet her, In that beautiful home in the sky. A friend. ZUMWALT, LINDA RAE

Born Oct. 21, 1942 in Vallejo, CA, passed away peacefully in Placerville on Sept. 26th, 2006 with her family at her side. Preceded in death by her father Raymond Stafford and brother James Stafford. Survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Russell, mother Mary, sister Peggy (William) Campbell, daughter Terrilyn (Joseph) Fields, son Tyler, stepdaughters Karen (Colin) Connor and Cheri (John) Morey. Devoted grandma to Thomas, Matthew, and Ashlee Fields, Hannah Wetton, Robyn and Kelly Connor, and Dylan Morey. Linda will always be remembered for her ability to light up a room and put a smile on anyone's face. Her talent for interior design is reflected in her own home, as well as those of her family and many friends and clients. Linda was never one to remain idle for any length of time. She was always busy gardening, traveling, organizing events, shopping and lunching with her grandchildren and friends, and meeting new people. Her fondness for chocolate chip morsels will always be remembered by all who knew her.
