C. C. MASHBURN

Charles Council Mashburn was born on December 10, 1870 to James and Josie Mashburn in Old Jacksonport, Arkansas. On November 1, 1872 a daughter was born to John Tolly and Polly Jones. Her name was Louisa Janette Jones.

C. C. Mashburn and Louisa J. Jones, grew up going to the same school and when grown to manhood and womanhood, their affections were knit so closely together they united in marriage on April 4, 1889.

In the course of time six daughters and three sons were born to this union. This caused labor and toil by all for these children to go to school and keep food and raiment but with hard work; apple, peach, and plum orchards; berries growing spontaneously, and stock pastures and free range; pigs, calves, colts running, playing and growing for them, they lived bountifully for several years.

Living on a farm near a village school the children went to school about six months of the year–enough to get a common school education.

Only two of the children were still at home when the father was taken sick unto death. He suffered misery for six years. Louise stood strong and served her family well, and was true to her husband in sickness and health.

The family had extremely good health until C. C. took ill. They lived in Arkansas 46 years and following the railroad went to Childress, Texas where they spent thirteen years. Then again following work on the railroad they came to California in the 1930s. Their children were: Alfred Bertrum, who remained in Arkansas. He was born February 21, 1890 in Cave City, AR and died November 11, 1959 in Williford, Arkansas. He married Louie Lucinda Justus. Bertha Gertrude was born in 1892 and married Lee Gale Biffle. Esther Magdalene was born June 9, 1894 and died Nov 23, 1988 in San Diego, CA. She married Melvin Jones. James Tollie was born in 1898 and died 1935 in Los Angeles, CA. Eula was born about 1900 and married Edgar Turner. Ruth was born September 8, 1904 in Arkansas and died September 1 1990 in Los Angeles. She married Coit Harrelson. Festus Council was born January 7, 1907 in Arkansas and died July 23, 1974 in Los Angeles. Verma Beatrice was born March 17, 1909 in Arkansas and died November 11, 1955 in Los Angeles. She married Elmer Hobbs, Sr. Reba was born about 1911 and married Floyd Copeland.

C. C. died about 1932 in Los Angeles and Louise died August 24, 1951 in Los Angeles.
