A fire at Susanville, Cal., Sunday morning broke out in a warehouse in the rear of Blum & Alexander's store and spread and destroyed two entire blocks of the business portion of the town, including the whole of Chinatown, loss $100,000.

Susanville, Cal., Jan. 27-Holden Dick, an Indian, and
Vincente Olivas, a Mexican, both convicted murderers, were taken from jail by a
mob last night and hanged to beams in the woodshed of the Court House.

News from Susanville, Cal., in the Sierra Nevadas, says that slight earthquake shocks continue and the people have become so accustomed to the constant trembling of the earth that they pay no attention to it. These shocks, however, have revived recollections of old settlers, who predict volcanic disturbances in the extinct craters such as took place in 1850.

A Pleasant Evening at Amedee
Mr. and Mrs. S.M. Sample entertained a number of their
friends last Wednesday evening at their home in Amedee in honor of Mrs. Sample's
sister, Miss Margurite Burroughs, of Susanville, California. Games, charades and
other amusements were indulged in, after which a bounteous repast was served.
The host and hostess are recognized as high entertainers. All went home
expressing themselves as having a most enjoyable evening.
The following were present: Mrs. Leshe Sexton, the Misses
Margaret Burroughs, Maud E. Bental, Ida Mapes, Emma Grass, Ella Sylvester, Maud
and Helen Erving, Messrs. H.H. Lemmon, T.A. Kobler, Geo V. Hughes, Jesse M.
Rhodes and George Dodge.

Three Blocks In Ruins
Susanville, Cal., June 7-Three blocks of buildings in the
business section of this place were swept by fire, only two stone buildings
escaping destruction. There were no facilities for fighting the flames, which
spread with great rapidity. The total loss is not known.

A Rancher Murdered
A Question of Rights Settled by a Bullet
Susanville, Cal., June 6-Thomas Watson, an old rancher who
has been in Honey Lake valley for many years, was shot to death today by Ben
Weisenberger. The latter, who is a miner, had a lease of ground from Watson for
placer mining about a quarter of a mile from Watson's house. Watson and
Weisenberger had a disagreement as to their respective rights. Watson wanting
the mining stopped.

Northern Small-Pox Situation
No Cases at Susanville or Janesville-Honey Lake Indians Quarantined
Susanville, California, February 3-There is no truth in the
report published in the "Gazette" last Friday stating that Susanville and
Janesville were under strict quarantine. There is no smallpox in either of these
places, in fact none in Lassen county, with the exception of the one camp at the
Conkey ranch, six miles south east of Susanville.
There are several cases at that place and it is confined
there, none of the Indians being allowed to come or go from this camp.
All the Indians in Honey Lake Valley are under quarantine and
it will be but a few days now until the disease shall have spent its course.

Children Burned To Death
All the Rest Escaped From Blazing Hotel
Reno, Nev., July 20-The Humphrey hotel at Susanville, in
Lassen county, California, caught fire today and was entirely destroyed. With
the exception of two children, a daughter of Mrs. L. Parry and a son of Mr. and
Mrs. W.R. Miller, the occupants of the hotel, escaped. The children were burned
to death. There was but little insurance on the building and the loss can not be
estimated.

Probe Slaying
Susanville, Cal., June 14-The possibility that Robert B.
Martin, 27, Filipino lumber worker of Westwood whose mutilated body was found
near the Eagle Lake highway 30 miles west of here Thursday, had been slain
because of his purported attentions to white girls, was expressed today by
Sheriff Leavitt of Lassen county.
