Hovers Over Fifteen Shipwrecked Unfortunates, Three of Whom are Women, Two with
Babes in Arms.
San Francisco, Jan. 22-Fifteen shipwrecked persons from the
Steamer Crescent City, are clinging for life to the huge Rock of Gualala in
Mendocino County. A gale that has been blowing for several days is too furious
to permit a vessel to go near the terrorized victims. Unless succor comes
speedily they are in imminent danger of being swept into the raging sea. Three
of party are women, two of whom have babes in arms. The steamer Crescent City
struck on the rock yesterday. She is one fo the ships belonging to the Pacific
Coast Steamship Company.

Head of Indian School Charged With Cruelty
San Francisco-June 19-Charges of cruelty to Indian children
and other complaints have been filed against Thomas B. Wilson, superintendent of
the Round Valley Reservation Indian school, of Mendocino county, California, it
was learned yesterday. The charges have been forwarded to the bureau of Indian
affairs by the attorney for the Indian board of cooperation. Forty affidavits by
Indians are on file alleging that Indian boys were flogged until blood ran down
their backs.
