MAN IS INJURED WHEN THEATER IS GUTTED BY FIRE
    Simla, Colo., Jan. 8-One man was injured and a hundred other persons escaped unharmed when panic following breaking out of fire in the Big Four moving picture theater here tonight. The injured man, Charles Meeker, pioneer local resident, sustained a broken rib and possible internal injuries in his efforts to get out of the crowded theater.
    The fire broke out in the film booth. Two cans of fire extinguisher were used by the moving picture machine operator in a vain effort to prevent spread of the flames.
    The rear of the building was burned out and the interior badly gutted.
    The damage is estimated at $5,000.

    Lawrence, Kan., Dec. 6- Jack M. Smith of Simla, Colo., an Ottawa university senior, today qualified as the Kansas candidate for a district Rhodes scholarship examination.
