At Leadville, Colo., Jack Nelson was shot dead by his mistress. Cause unknown.

The sad news announcing the death of Miss Teresa Whelan arrived in Iowa City last night. She died in Leadville, Colorado. Her remains were brought to Iowa City today for burial.

Monday, Jan. 11-In a fight between police and strikers at Leadville, Colo., Frank Dougherty, a striker, was shot dead.

Charles Kent shot and killed Thomas Bennett, at Leadville, Colo. The latter had been living with Kent's wife, and a feud between the parties had existed for some time. Kent formerly resided at Jacksonville, Ill. All concerned in the tragedy were respectably connected.

FELL DEAD IN THE RING
     Leadville, Colo., May 24-During a sparring contest before a local club between Joseph Jackson, white and Marcellus Morgan, colored, Jackson fell dead. Physicians pronounced heart failure from excitement as the cause.
