GENERAL CAMPBELL OF TRINIDAD DIES
TRINIDAD. Colo., Nov. 29.
Brig. Gen. Edward L. Campbell, who rose from a private to the rank
of lieutenant colonel during the Civil War and judge advocate on the
staff of Genera! Meade, was found dead in his home in this city this
morning. He lived alone and It is thought that he was stricken with
heart disease Thursday. The. body was found by neighbors who entered
the home when his disappearance, became known.General Campbell was a
native of New Jersey and served first in the Warren guards and later
in the First New Jersey volunteers. He was a Gettysburg survivor,
was wounded at the battle of Antietam and Cedar Creek and fought at
Cancellorville, Spottsylvanla, second Bull Run and numerous smaller
engagements. He was, 81 years of age and leaves no near relatives.
He formerly practiced law here but for the past 10 years had led a
retired life.

SECOND SOLDIER DIES FROM GRIP EPIDEMIC
Leland James of Trinidad Succumbs to Complications of Spanish
Influenza
Leland James, a resident of southern Colorado whose post office
Address is Trinidad, died, at the military hospital at Colorado
college yesterday morning. He was the second member of the radio
school to become a victim of Spanish Influenza complicated by
pneumonia. ,James came to the college with the contingent of radio
men, on September 16 and was here about 10 days when he contracted
influenza. His condition has been serious for several days and It
was announced yesterday that he would not get well.No funeral
arrangements have yet been made.

William Stovel

William Stovell Dies in Trinidad
William R. Stovell, son of Mr. and Mra. J. W. D. Stovell of 127
North Wahsatch avenue, died
suddenly last night in Trlnidad according to telegrams received by
his father. The cause of
death is not known but it is believed to have.been an indirect,
result of an attack of ptomaine,
poisoning some time ago.
Stovell, who untill the first of this year was employed by the
Mountain States Telephone and
Telegraph company in this city, was cashier for that corporation in
Trinidad. He was a graduate
of Colorado Springs High school, with the class of 1909, and was
well known in this city.
His father left Colorado Springs early this morning for Trinidad.
Mrs.Stovell has been in Trinidad for the last week.

BABY BITTEN BY RATTLESNAKE
Trinidad, Colo., August 4-Emma, the three year old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bruedenbcok, is dead from the
effects of a rattlesnake bite. The child was bitten when playing in
the backyard at her home in this city.The Reno

SHOT IN HEAD WHILE READING LETTER
Trinidad, Colo., April 8-John H. Fox, former country
treasurer, was killed in the post office here at 1:45 p.m. today by
Joseph Johnson, a local politician. Johnson shot Fox in the back of
the head while he was reading a letter.
Johnson was arrested and a lynching is threatened.

MINES CAVES IN KILLING MEN
Trinidad, Colo., May 5-John O'Neil, James Roe and Jack
Cavillito have been instantly killed by a cave in in the Starkville
coal mine. Their bodies were buried under tons of rock in a drift a
mile from the mouth of the mine.

STOLE MY WIFE SAYS SLAYER
Trinidad, Colo., March 15-Edward Butler, a
saloonkeeper, was host and killed today by J.M. Justice. Justice
immediately gave himself up to the officers and stated that Butler
had stolen his wife from him and refused to reveal her whereabouts.

BOY SHOOTS MOTHER
Trinidad, Colo., July 12-John Lutzke, 11 years of age,
shot his mother, Mrs. Fred Lutzke, with a rifle while playing Indian
near the Lutzke home at Delagua, 18 miles north of here, today. The
bullet took effect in the left breast.

STRIKE MARSHAL SLAIN
Trinidad, Colo., Sept. 24-The first disorder in the
Colorado coal miners' strike occurred at noon today, when Camp
Marshal Robert Lee at Segundo, near here, was shot and killed.
According to information received here the shooting was done by
three strikers.

REPRESENTATIVE RAYE DIES IN TRINIDAD
Trinidad, Colo.. April 16.
Charles H. Raye. 38 years old, Democratic representatives from Las
Animas county in the general assembly, died this morning at his home
at Sopris. Death was due to an attack of pneumonia contracted during
the closing days of the legislative session. Mr. Raye was elected
last November. He had been a resident of this community for 13 years
and is survived by his wife and three children.
