Took its name from Fort Morgan. The original fort was in existence from 1865-1868. It was established as a protection post against the Indians and was originally called "Junction" or "Camp Wardell". In 1866 the post became known as Fort Morgan in memory of Colonel Christopher A. Morgan, who died earlier that year.  Colorado State Archives
