OBITUARY
Mrs. Stella B. Falkner, wife of S.B. Falkner, was born
on the 9th day of November, 1871, near Cambria, Wayne
county, Iowa, and died at her home in Lamar, Colorado,
the 19th day of March, 1893.
Deceased was a daughter of Josiah and Sisly A. Bridges,
of Cambria, Iowa. She was united in marriage with S.B.
Falkner the 7th of March, 1891. Her death was
unexpected. Her husband found her unconscious when he
came home from his office at the depot. She lingered
only a few hours, then her spirit took its flight to the
God who gave it. In the two years she had lived in her
western home she had endeared herself to all her
acquaintance, and her husband rendered her the highest
praise given to a wife when he said "Stella made our
home a heaven on earth for me." She looked forward with
great anticipation to coming home this summer, but how
sad the home coming and how great the sorrow of her
loved ones when only the body was brought home with the
spirit flown. Only those who have passed through such
sorrow can know our great grief. Her father feels that
indeed God's hand has been laid heavily upon him. Only
two years ago Willie, his oldest son was brought home a
corpse, and now Stella lays by his side. Two on the
other side of the river and two on this. Stella was a
member of the Christian church, having united with that
branch of the church in Humeston in 1889. In the absence
of a minister, the funeral services were conducted by
Bro. M. Nelson, of the Baptist church. The funeral was
preached in the Christian church at Cambria on the
following Sunday, to a large audience, by Rev. Burks, of
Humeston. Subject, "Human Life," Text, James 4-14, "What
is our life" Rev. Long, calling in his appointment,
kindly assisted in the services.
Beautiful spirit, free from all stain,
Ours the heartache, the sorrow
and
pain,
Thine is the glory and infinite gain,
Thy slumber is sweet.
