Morgan J. Williams, Sr.

Morgan Jenkins Williams Sr., 85, of Bethel, CT died in his home on July 4, 2007.  Morgan was born November 3, 1921 in Albany, GA, son of the late Amos Wadsworth Williams and Leanna Oliver Williams and was raised with his three sisters, Lassona Williams, Lela Davis and Oneda Lawrence in Camden, NJ.

Morgan is survived by his wife, Vesta Hall Williams, his daughters, Lois and her husband David Kearney of Litchfield, CT, Eunice Ivy and her husband Roland Meyer, Karen and her husband Klaus Hartmann, Vesta G. Williams, each  of Bethel, CT, Cynthia and her husband Thomas Kijewski of Redding, CT, Lassona Williams of London, England and his son Morgan Williams Jr. and his wife Kari of Severna Park, MD.  He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Justin and Leanna Kearney and Dirk Meyer each of West Haven, CT, Lloyd and Bjorn Meyer both of Bethel, CT, and Evangeline, Ronin and Isabelle Williams of Severna Park, MD.

After an honorable discharge from the United States Navy, Morgan got hisdegree as an electrical engineer at RCA Institute in NYC.  He married Vesta Elise Hall of Long Branch, NJ on June 2, 1946 andsubsequently had 5 of his children while living in NYC. He worked with theU.S. Postal Service, then for the next 35 years as a quality assurance inspector for several government defense contractors.  After a brief period of commuting to Connecticut, he moved there with his family to a lovely home in Bethel, CT in April of 1962, after which his wife gave birth to
his last 2 children, Morgan Jr. and Lassona.

Morgan and his wife had the pleasure of traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe and made sure his children had the  opportunity to visit some of the places to which he had been when he was inthe navy.  After retiring in 1986, he began a more focused study of the Bible and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1988.  As his health declined, his children did their best to care for him in his own home until
his death and were ever thankful for his great sense of humor for the duration of his illness.

Morgan, with his wife Vesta, set a fine example for his children in showing hospitality.  Their home was the "Hub" for longtime riends from NYC, new friends from his Danbury congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and a host of cousins, aunties and uncles.  Morgan's mechanical abilities kept him constantly busy fixing ANYTHING that needed repairing at their homestead, from cars to broken jewelry.  As a team, Morgan taught his children how to work hard, see what tasks needed to be done and do them without being asked, to be kind, loving and respectful to each other and to those outside their family.  He was proud of the success these qualities brought to his children in their ministry as Jehovah's Witnesses, their famed Seven Sisters Company
consignment shop and their multitude of treasured friendships.  He will ever be remembered as a real gentleman.

Morgan's family would like to thank the staff of Almost Home Adult Day Care Center for the 2 years of assistance Morgan received there, a special thanks to Jessica Hughes of CT Community Care, Inc. and
Regional Hospice of CT.
