Ann (Postemsky) Rafferty (1919 - 2009)
Ann (Postemsky) Rafferty, of
Mystic and Chaplin, CT, died peacefully on Sunday November 29th at
Mystic Manor, where she had been a resident since 2005. Ann was born
in Colchester CT. on June 13, 1919, the fourth of eight children
born to Adam and Mary (Jaworski) Postemsky. Ann graduated from
Windham High School in 1935, and Willimantic State Teachers College
in 1939. She was employed as a grammar school teacher for several
years in Coventry and then as a Naval aircraft inspector with Pratt
& Whitney. She enlisted in the Coast Guard in August of 1943 and
served in Manhattan Beach N.Y. She was honorably discharged in July
1945 and subsequently received the Connecticut Wartime Veteran
Service and Victory WW II medals for her service during the war. Ann
married Brae Rafferty M.D. August 22, 1944. They resided in Lebanon
and later Chaplin, where they restored the Orin Witter house,
qualifying it to be on the National Register of Historic Places. She
received a Master of Science degree from Willimantic State College
in 1963. Ann spent many years employed as a social worker at Norwich
State Hospital. In retirement she enjoyed gardening and the passing
seasons around her beloved home in Chaplin. Ann was predeceased by
three brothers and two sisters, along with her husband Francis Brae
and daughter Madge. She is survived by son Frank Patrick Rafferty of
Guilford VT, and son and daughter-in-law Brae and Elizabeth Rafferty
and granddaughter Ashley Elizabeth Rafferty of Mystic CT, as well as
sisters Viola Cordner of N.C. and Helen Kutchera of CA. Ann’s family
would like to thank the staff of Visiting Angels Homecare and
Hospice Southeastern Connecticut for their care of Ann. The family
especially wishes to thank the staff of Mystic Manor for their many
years of dedicated caregiving which was always sensitive to her
needs. A graveside service of Christian burial will be held on
Saturday December 12 at 11:00 AM at the Russ Cemetery, Tower Hill
Road, in Chaplin CT. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers
donations can be made in her memory to the Chaplin Public Library,
130 Chaplin Street, Chaplin, CT. 06235. Arrangements are being made
through Potter Funeral Home of Willimantic.
