The County Seat of Baker County is Macclenny, FL. The
county is a rural county
but on the outskirts of Jacksonville Metropolitan Area.
The county covers 589 square miles..of which 585 square miles of
land and 4 square
miles of it is water. The extreme Northern part of the county
lies within the
Okefenokee Swamp area and is federally protected.
Baker County was founded in 1861.
It was named for a judge and Confederate Senator James McNair
Baker.
It is the only place in Florida
where a civil war battle occurred.
