Obituaries Dixie County TimesNov. 28, 2008 MR. GARY DANIEL "DINGUS" JERRELLS, of Cross City ,passed away Thursday, November 27, 2008, at his brother's home. He was 50 years old. Mr. Jerrells was a truck driver in the logging business. He spent many enjoyable hours fishing. He attended Calvary Temple in Cross City. He is survived by his sons, Jamie Cunningham of Cross City and John Cunningham, Jr. of Georgia; daughter, Kim Sherrod of Lake Wales; parents, Morris and Julia Jerrells of Cross City; brothers, Nathan Jerrells and Manuel Jerrells, both of Cross City, Randy Jerrells of Old Town, Vince Jerrells and Robert Jerrells, both of Cross City; sister, Martha Murray of Cross City; and 6 grandchildren. Graveside services were held Sunday, November 30, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Old Town with Rev. Jim Hurst offi ciating. A visitation was held Saturday, November 29, 2008, at the funeral home, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Arrangements were placed under the care of the Rick Gooding Funeral Home, Cross City, Florida Contributed by Norita Shepherd Moss Dixie County Times Posted on January 11, 2008 WALTER PATRICK "PAT" JOHNSON JR., was born January 14, 1925, in Baxley, Georgia. He passed away January 11, 2008, at the VA Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter P. Johnson, Sr. and Annette Bullard Johnson, and a brother Robert L. Johnson.Pat attended public schools in Hazelhurst, Georgia, Purdue University, and South Georgia College. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945. During World War II, he served on a patrol gun-boat and destroyer escorts Impulse and King's Mill, as an electrician's mate. He received medals for participation in the American Theater Campaign, European-African Middle Eastern Theater, and Campaign and Service Victory World War II.He was employed with Gilman Paper of St. Mary's, Georgia, in the maintenance department and by Interstate Paper in Riceboro, Georgia, as a multi-craft mechanic.In 1971, Pat and his wife Alice move to Steinhatchee, Florida, where he owned and operated Pat Johnson's Fish Camp until his retirement in 1998. He was a licensed Captain and extraordinary fishing guide. Pat was also a licensed electrician and plumber.Pat was a life member of the VFW in Florence, South Carolina, a member of the American Legion Post 291 in Steinhatchee, a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner, and member of Fellowship Baptist Church.He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alice Cato Johnson; a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Fred Hobbs of Lexington, South Carolina; a son, Michael Johnson of Savannah, Georgia; a sister and brother-in-law, MaryAnn and Jack Floyd of Hazelhurst, Georgia; two grandsons, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.Memorial services were held on Monday, January 14, 2008, 11 a.m. at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Steinhatchee, Florida.
