Johnson - died, Jacksonville, Fla., March 21, 1882, aged 58 2/3 [Source, 1843 Chicago City Directory, reprinted in 1896 with updated death info. Submitted by K. Torp] Homer Lee McElroy Funeral services for Homer Lee McElroy, 74 will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Key McCabe Funeral Home with Rev. G. A. Ratterree officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. McElroy who lived at 4618 Main St., died Monday in a Lake City hospital. He was born in Carroliton, GA and had lived in Jacksonville 40 years. He was a Baptist and formerly was an employee of the McElroy's Inc. He was a veteran of World War I, as an observation Photographer for two years, as a charter member of the 99th Aero Squadron. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Martha J. McElroy, Jacksonville; three brothers, James C. McElroy, Jacksonville, Stanley McElroy, Blountsville, and O. N. McElroy, Atlanta, GA. Pallbearers will be R. N. Brown, B. Godbold. David Eversole, Curtis McKinney, Don Warren and Jim Haines. Submitted by Dena Whitesell Florida Times-Union 1/15/2004 Sophia Melven, 84, of Neptune Beach, affectionately known as "Mema", died January 13, 2004. She was a member of Beaches Chapel Church. Surviving are two daughters, Judy Thompson and Jackie Phillips, a sister, Helen Crews, 2 grandchildren, Ginnie Lewis and Ken Lewis, a great granddaughter, Amber Thompson and her longtime companion, Dwayne Coletti. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15, from 6-8 pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach. The funeral service will be Friday, January 16 at 11:00 am at Beaches Chapel Church. Burial will follow in H. Warren Smith Cemetery. She is survived by son J. M. Scott of Williston and five daughters; Mrs. A. F. Taylor of Jacksonville; Mrs. B. K. Padgett of Anthony. Mrs. C. W. Huey of Wildwood; and Mrs. Lila Perry and Mrs. M. Dena Whitesell Florida Times Union 12/1962 Mrs. Sallie S. Taylor, who lived at 834 Eight Ave. N. Jacksonville Beach, died Monday morning at a local hospital. Mrs. Taylor was born in Kingsland, Ga. and had lived in Jacksonville Beach 40 years, moving there from Lake City. She was a member of the Beach Methodist Church. Mrs. Taylor was the widow of Albert F. Taylor. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Ruby Carty of Jacksonville, Mrs. Billie Boyd and Mrs. Lucille Kenser of Jacksonville Beach and Mrs. Larry Thispen of Atlantic Beach; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Huey of Wildwood, and Mrs. Madena Thomasson of Newberry, S.C., five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday in the Memorial Chapel of Seashole Funeral Parlor with Rev. Donald M. Mackay, pastor of the Beach Methodist Church afficiating. Interment will be in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Walter Boyd, Joe Thispen, Mr. Joe Thispen Jr., Thomas Boyd, James Perry and Bobby Thispen. Submitted by
Dena Whitesell Florida Times Union-03/20/2007- JACKSONVILLE Yvonne Marie Meena, born May 4, 1927, in Louisville, Kentucky, daughter of Kay and Achille duBourg died after a prolonged illness at Hospice on March 18, 2007. Yvonne graduated from Ursuline College in Louisville with degrees in nursing and clinical pathology. She met her devoted husband Lincoln in Louisville and married him on February 6, 1950. They celebrated their fifty-seventh year of wedded bliss shortly before her death. In 1956 they moved to Jacksonville, Florida with their first three children; their other two children were born in Jacksonville. Yvonne spent her entire life as one of caring and compassion. Not only was she a devoted wife and mother, she was actively involved in her community. Her devout faith brought her to St. Paul's Catholic Church where she became and remained an active parishioner and Eucharistic Minister throughout her life. Her passion for the medical arena blossomed at St. Vincent's Hospital where she served as a volunteer for over twenty-five years including providing communion and companionship to many of the patients. She leaves behind many friends locally and across the country. Yvonne was predeceased by her daughter Kathi and is survived by her loving husband Lincoln, her sons Mark (Atlanta, Georgia), Matthew (Jacksonville, FL), and John Lincoln (Shell Beach, California) and her daughter Marian (Jacksonville, FL) along with her daughter-in-law Sonia (John) and her grandson Kenton Lincoln (Shell Beach, CA) and her two other grandsons Tyler and Trey Henehan of Jacksonville, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Yvonne handled her impending departure with the same dignity, courage and compassion that she displayed every day of her life. The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22nd at Hardage-Giddens Edgewood Chapel (729 South Edgewood Avenue). Funeral mass will be held in celebration of her life at 11:00 a.m., Friday at St. Paul's Catholic Church (2609 Park Street) with Father James Corry officiating. A luncheon will be held immediately afterwards on church property. In lieu of flowers, Yvonne has asked that any remembrances be made in her name to St. Vincent's Foundation, 1800 Barrs Street, Suite 2776, Jacksonville, Florida 32204. Mr. Burton was born In Lancaster ,England, moving to Ouebec, Canada early in life. He came to Jacksonville 24 years ago . He was connected with the Dr. H .Dux Chemical Company for a number of years. He was a member of the MethodistChurch. Mr Burton is survived by three daughters;Mrs. H. E. Fisher, Mrs. S. L. Sharpe andMiss Juanita Burton, Jacksonville.;a sister, Mrs. Sarah Cox Winchester, Mass. ; and two brothers, James Burton, Lachine, Canada and Arthur L. Burton, residing in China.
